Audrey Yayyyyyyy!!!!!

message 2: by Bo (new)

Bo Lindbergh Non-spoiler: it turns out that the cover art is entirely relevant and appropriate.

message 3: by Alex (new)

Alex Thank you for updating the reading order. Having completed your Vorkosigan novels, I'm only one book into your Penric & Desdemona series. I look forward to reading more of their adventures!

message 4: by Novacaine (new)

Novacaine What an absolutely wonderful surprise! Thank you!

message 5: by Susan (new)

Susan Great read. Lovely to hear more about Llewen and Penric’s relationship with her. Thank you.

message 6: by Kurt (new)

Kurt I purchased from kobo. Thank you for a wonderful series

message 7: by Peter (new)

Peter Sahui Just in time for my trip! Bought.

message 8: by Jerri (new)

Jerri I was feeling ill on Thursday, and Testimony of Mute Things was just the ticket to take my mind off. In a few days I will start my careful re-read to search for the fine details that my "distract me from how I am feeling" read probably missed. Many thanks for this trip back to Penric's youth.

message 9: by Eva (new)

Eva LR I would love to read both "The Testimony of Mute Things" and "The Adventure of the Demonic Ox" (oh, that sounds as if it contains ever so many laughs?) but neither of them is available from Apple Books in Sweden. Indeed, only "Penrics Mission", "The Assassins of Thasalon" and "Knot of Shadows" are available here.
Is it possible that this could be changed?

Lois Bujold Eva wrote: "I would love to read both "The Testimony of Mute Things" and "The Adventure of the Demonic Ox" (oh, that sounds as if it contains ever so many laughs?) but neither of them is available from Apple B..."

I have no control over this. All my titles SHOULD be up on Apple Books worldwide; you'll have to ask Swedish folks for ideas to fix this.

Note my ebooks are also up on Amazon Kindle, Kobo, and Google Play Books internationally. You might look to see if any of them work better for you where you are. (Let us know if any do!)

Ta, L.

message 11: by Heather (new)

Heather Thanks so much for the new Penric! and boo to amazon; despite my ordering it in advance, I had to go and order it again in order to receive and gulp down in 2 hours. And to think I could have read it days ago!

One request, though: a map would be so useful for those of us who like/need to be georgraphically oriented. I used the one in Orphans of Raspay . . .

We don't actually offer pre-orders on these e-novellas, so whatever you did, it wasn't a pre-order. I'm glad you were able to get your copy all right, though!

Two hours, wow. It takes me 4 or 6 for a manuscript of this length, but then I'm usually proofreading as I go, and have to break it up or my eyes give out.

Fortunately, a lot of people find these stories re-readable, so can get their money/time's worth that way.

message 13: by Lois (new)

Lois Bujold Question, should I offer a spoiler discussion space post for this one, or is it not really needed?

Ta, L.

message 14: by Galen (new)

Galen B. Are you aware that Bookshop now offers e-books?

message 15: by Jerri (new)

Jerri I would enjoy having a spoiler discussion space. I have several comments in my head that are certainly "spoiler filled". And I don't want to spoil anyone who doesn't want to be spoiled.

message 16: by Bo (new)

Bo Lindbergh Maybe Apple Books has a confusing error-prone interface for sellers? I remember an incident a couple of years ago when Charles Stross's upcoming book had its price changed from SEK 109 to SEK 9 just before the release date, only in Sweden and only in Apple Books.

Apple Books was faster than normal at having the book available (usually they are a day or two behind everyone else) But their interface was extra glitchy. It failed to hold my place in the book and started me over at the beginning of the story several times. This has never happened before and I wasn't keeping track of what page I was on until I kept getting burned. Also, they are listing "Testimony..." as #15 rather than #4, which I believe Ms. Bujold said #4 was the intended placement. (Could also do #3.5 to avoid re-numbering everything else perhaps but who expects to search for 3.5?) Hopefully they smooth out their glitches soon. They have some nice aspects but generally not my favorite platform for several reasons.

Yeah, series numbering is going to be an ongoing problem, as there may well be more "prequels" in the future. And I decline to let some vendor's computer system dictate what I can or can't write.

With paper reprints, there's even less wriggle room, as they are not subject to content-revision at all. Adding updated reading orders to vendor pages with any new entry is probably the best I can do, and let the numbering stand as just publication order, going on.

Dr. John Watson never had this problem, as he was writing about his flatmate long after the fact, and could gate in his narrative in any way he pleased. 3rd-person-personal does not have that internal flexibility.

We also have the model of manga series circling back to present the angsty backstories of assorted characters mid-volumes. Really, readers should be used to this.

(Heh. Auto-corrupt, which doesn't appear to have "angsty" in its dictionary, just tried to make that "nasty backstories". Those, too...)

Ulrike Oooo. I was NOT expecting an announcement so soon. <3 Can't wait for the audio edition to be released.

FYI, Blackstone released the Ox book as an Audible Exclusive for the first 60 days. It wasn't even available on Downpour until October (Audible release was in August).

vorbalin Thank you!!!!!

message 21: by Brzk (new)

Brzk You may think me stupid but I am behind on ToMT because amazon.com "cannot verify my location". Because verifying my location would make a difference. As soon as I've gathered some presence of mind and spirit I'll tackle the drama.

Well, don't forget their 3 international competitors, listed above, if it gets too difficult. Not that they may be any better...

message 23: by Anne (new)

Anne I have of course bought the DEMONIC OX and the newest title as ebooks but I also always buy the Subterranean edition in hardcover. Will there be paper copies of the most recent titles?

Anne in Virginia

I prefer not to announce any such until contracts are finalized. (Not everyone works on the weekends, after all, among other normal delays.) I'll definitely post the news if/when deals occur.

Lead times for print publications are so long, there's no point in rushing.

Aleksandra Janusz Thank you, that was wonderful - in the best comedic chaotic Bastard style. And so many gems and deep interactions.

If only....I could start them over again so I could savor each one anew. Oh well, I've got two new ones to read.
