Less than a month after Ox was released on Kindle and one can purchase it in audiobook from Audible. Not sure when the other vendors will get.
This story felt bittersweet - almost like an ending. I certainly hope not though!
I was definitely surprised by Pen's accident with the ox - after all he'd been through and survived I didn't see that coming.
I loved hearing some discussion about Pen's family back in the Cantons - I always wondered if he kept them updated on all his doings and what they'd think about how far he had come (literally and figuratively).
I also loved mention of Oswyll and Lunette! Thinking over all of the titles now, I believe that Penric's Fox is my favorite. A murder mystery with demons and shamans; I've listened to it the most I think, my comfort food.
Thanks for another great listen!
Did the wolves have to die?! Wolves were worthy creatures in The Hallowed Hunt - Inglis's Great Beast was the result of ~4 centuries' of wolves. But here, Penric said there is a debate that they may be vermin? Need to stick with the idea that they are noble creatures!
EDIT: Apologies! Just recently finished reading "The Hallowed Hunt" and the whole saga about Horseriver was absolutely heart-wrenching! And what happened to Ingrey's father was sad too! And then when I came across the death of the wolves in this novella, it felt too much. 'Sigh'. Your stories can really grab me and sometimes it takes me quite a while to shake free. LOL!

The event Des is referring to never appears onstage -- it was Pen's suicide attempt at Martensbridge the morning he was supposed to take oath as a Mother's physician. He talks about it to Nikys in "Penric's Mission", and it's referred to in "Masquerade in Lodi". Pen pretty much gets over it, although it's in his metal background in "The Physicians of Vilnoc", as events there recall it painfully to his memory.
