Susan Very happy to know that there is another Penric in the works - thank you. I am not usually a big re-reader but every new Penric sends me back to the beginning to read them all again to see how he evolves.

Lm Now if it were Number Ten Ox that would be an amazing hat tip.

Richard Boothe Re: Save "Penric's Lessions" for a collection? Maybe, maybe not. I've noticed a tendancy of the young Pendric to teach, or preach, at what seems to be innapropriate times. Witness his admonitions in "Penrick's Mission" to Velka/Tepelen when he should flee, and to Kyrato just after his heart is nearly torn asunder in magical battle. And, Nikys' take on the latter's bewilderment, "Oh good. It's not just me."

I've settled on "The Adventure of the Demonic Ox", so folks can stop suggestions now.

Just saw the preliminary cover sketch today. Best guess is about two weeks to completion of that, as Ron has a number of other things in his queue. I should be done dinking around with final edits by then.

After that, it will depend on what else my Spectrum helpers have in their queues. "Sometime in July for epub" seems a safe-ish bet.

Petri Peltonen There are several patterns in the titles: Penric's X, Penric and the X, The X of Place, The X of Y, then the one-off's Masquerade in Lodi, Mira's Last Dance and Demon Daughter... and I like them all. But "The Adventure of Demonic Ox" somehow does not resonate for me.

How about "The Demon and the Ox"?
"The Ox, the Demon and the Sorcerer" à la "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe"?
"The Ox and His Demon", à la "The Horse and His Boy"?
"The Ox of Chaos"?
"Penric and the Stampede"?
"The Pasture of Demons"?
"Rawhide"?

EDIT: Oops, only now noticed that the decision has been made. Sorry! :)

I first read them quite a long time ago, but not that far back. These days, I have them all handily collected in an e-book entitled simply Lord Darcy. I also have Michael Kurland’s two Lord Darcy novels, which are pretty good.

Crossing my fingers that it's in the first half of the month, before I go on holiday. If not, I'll look forward to it on my return. I might be busy with my daughter's wedding for a little while anyway. 😂

Jerri Tomorrow will be one month since the fun announcment. Any chance of an update? Perhaps cover art for the Adventure of the Demonic Ox? Just hoping.

Terry Reyes Brainstorming the title ‘Penric’s Yoke’ lead me to this delightful five minute fantasy repurposing Bible verses as sayings of the Bastard.

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” -from the ‘the Bastard’s Greatest Jokes, as told by Saint Iroki to Learned Penric, after the affair of the Demonic Ox.

Not hoping any harder than I am...

Text was finalized last week, and is now in the hands of my ebook wrangler at Spectrum for further formatting. The cover has been difficult, with lots of back-and-forthing about details of figures and color. I'll have more to say on that when I post the cover sneak peek and you can see what I'm talking about.

But anyway, we're down to some last minor image tweaking and then the final selection of the color of the lettering, so I'm hoping cover be done in a few more days. I'll show it to you all then.

Then cover will go to my e-wrangler, and will be at the mercy of her work queue, which I also can't predict. "July", which I'd thought a generous lead-time, may prove correct.

Ta, L.

Many thanks for the information. Glad to know that progress is being made, and understand that things often take longer than expected. At least in comparison with old-school physical publication, this is still much faster! I have been re-listening to Demon Daughter and Penric and the Bandit to review the recent past.

Alice I would pre-order it right this second if I could… Standing by.
As always, thank you so much for the books.

This is probably not the place for this, but lately I’ve been really worried about Desdemona’s fate in the afterlife. She’s a person, howsoever not human. I really hope that the White God has a special place for her, or demons generally, that is not just total dissolution? His creatures deserve better?

I've gathered that most demons swallowed by Saints dissolve/devolve into the chaos from which they arose. But these are mostly "bad" or "spoiled" demons, which is why the Bastard draws them out of the physical world. I can imagine the White God sipping the flavor of a well-tempered multi-imprinted demon, like a fine wine, as it passes through His portal, perhaps to supplement by a tiny bit His vast knowlege of the material realm. This is, of course, outside speculation, not within the WO5G cannon.
That said, I eagerly await LMB's announcement of The Adventure of the Demonic Ox's online publication, with (pretty please) the link to order it. Can I call it TADO for short?

message 65: by Richard (new)

Richard Boothe Another thought on the above: Twice that I know of, the White God has allowed a (relatively) unimprinted demon to remain with its (relatively) young/inexperienced human vessel. Does He anticipate the enjoyment of watching these unspoiled demons develop and mature over the centuries to come? If something like this also occurs in TADO, I'd say it indicates the Bastard's interest in such goes somewhat beyond Emperor Gregor's habitual saying, "Let's see what happens."

I came across LMB's blog for 7/2/25. She expect TADO to be uploaded to the usual venders within a week. Eeek!

Waiting to put my greedy little fingers on the epub.

Richard Boothe I see a link to order TADO from Amazon, but the title does not appear when I click it. Premature link in expectation of upload to come?

Laurel Yoshimoto My 14-year-old son and I bond over your books - thank you!! From Ivan, Gregor, and Miles to Penric, we love reading books about growing up and being heroic in the quasi-normal days of life and silliness. Thank you for sharing your journeys with us! We enjoy journeying with you a lot!

Tons of love!
