LIFE AFTER THE APOCALYPSE
The world has been brought to its knees by the “zombie virus.” Nations have fallen, cities have been overrun by the infected, and the human race has come perilously close to extinction. But with the first winter come and gone, the infected have been reduced to not much more than a background nuisance and survivors around the world are taking stock and vowing to rebuild and rise up stronger, better, and unafraid.

John Ringo is a prolific author who has written in a wide variety of genres. His early life included a great deal of travel. He visited 23 foreign countries, and attended fourteen different schools. After graduation Ringo enlisted in the US military for four years, after which he studied marine biology.
In 1999 he wrote and published his first novel "A Hymn Before Battle", which proved successful. Since 2000 Ringo has been a full time author.
He has written science fiction, military fiction, and fantasy.
Like any anthology, this one has some hits and misses. I do think the best stories are at the beginning, but they are also some gems at the end. And it is also a quick read. Only took me a few days and I tried to savor it. My favorite stories were the Catholic ones, first the girls boarding school run by a nun who fortunately happened to be in the Marine Corps. The other one was about some unconventional Census Takers in Texas who find themselves on a mission from God.
Loved the entire black tide rising universe, the switch from surviving to rebuilding is very entertaining. Overall the anthology has a nice mix of storylines and locations. Especially loved the Canadian story as I am a retired member of the CAF. Can’t wait until the next set of stories.
Given a little power humans seek to increase it. Often by any means neccessary. There is an oft quoted statement, "Never let a crisis go to waste." The people trusted most to handle crisis are under a tremendous strain. They have been given power and in a crisis mistakes are overlooked for "The Greater Good." Keeping the crisis going means the mistakes are never dealt with and in time become the standard. We can continue to cower before the authorities or remove their power to control us.
This is a 2021 anthology of short stories set in John Ringo’s "Black Tide Rising" present-day dystopia. Ringo first started writing books in this series in 2013 and it eerily anticipated the 2019 Wuhan virus. It involves a virus being genetically engineered and released by some shady actors, thereby causing a global pandemic and the lurching shutdown of much of technology-dependent society. Ringo's fictional virus integrated the rabies virus, whereas the Wuhan-manufactured virus illegally funded by Fauci and Daszak integrated the AIDS virus, so Ringo's symptoms are more extreme, i.e. zombies.
Unfortunately, Ringo seems to have lost interest in the series by the fourth book without ever delving into the origins of the virus. He teased some hints in the first few books, but never followed up. Starting in 2016, he added “cowriters” who seem to have done nearly all of the writing. Since 2020, he has outsourced the writing to others entirely. But without exploring the origins of the virus, this is largely just another generic zombie series, now written by writers of lesser caliber than Ringo, and it is no longer really worth the time to read for the occasional chapter that is better than usual.
The stories in this collection range from four stars to two stars, with the best by Jason Córdova and the worst by Jody Lynn Nye, whose treacly story is such a terrible fit for this series it is hard to fathom what the editors were thinking by including her.
This collection of stories set in the Black Tide world, deals with after the bottom had been past and the human race is starting to rebuild. A number of stories have character from previous stories, very exciting to see how they're doing now.
I have to ask.. When is Book 5 in The series going to be released? If ever? Because the books since #4 that you have released ... Are not part of the original series.
Seeing as the original series stopped at book 4 and Mr Ringo went off on a Eric Flint tangent and ignored the original cast of characters..
I Really love your books john.. But i honestly am tired of you refusing to finish a single series
I'm a Black Tide Rising completionist, and I really enjoyed the way this anthology fleshed out a lot of the world that, until now, has been off-screen (but with enough tie-ins to be satisfying!) One of the things that really struck me about this collection was the variety of viewpoints. My understanding is that Ringo is pretty far to the right, in terms of American politics, but at least one story was conspicuously left-of-center. I almost wonder if the author had written some parts in as a dare to see if it would get in. I'm glad it did! I believe Ringo is also openly Christian, but one of the stories (a different one) was from a neo-pagan perspective. For a story about how Americans (most of the characters are American) have to put aside their differences to rebuild their society from the ashes, including such a diverse set of viewpoints felt really, really satisfying and on-theme.
This is anthology based on John Ringo's Black Tide Rising dystopian zombie's "destroy" the world series. It's definitely not for the squeamish because destroying zombies and saving the world takes a lot of angst - pain, loss, and, of course, some joy to make us keep reading. This addition to the series posits what happens after the "virus" is seemingly being controlled. People will rise again and bring the world back to a better reality. There are still monsters - zombies and, of course, regular people who take advantage of those weaker than themselves, Eleven stories - all with a unique perspective - on the world returning to whatever the new normal will be, are definitely worth the read,
Once again another great zombie anthology, to add to the black tide series. These authors really had a variety of styles and take on how the black tide universe is working thru and after the end of days. Portrayed so well in the black tide series. Even without a John Ringo story in this anthology, these authors really take up the torch and add their own spin, to these entertaining stories. Each one is unique in its own short novella style. The main premise stays the same from novella to novella, but with a separate take and twist on the outcome. It made for a very enjoyable read.
I was expecting more post Zombie apocalsype stories than there was, after reading dust jacket. Most of the stories take place shortly after or during the initial pandemic. One thing that bugged me was two of the stories gave two different names for the Zombie flu. One was h7d3 the other H5N7. Maybe I am too picky. All of the stories were neat, and some continued from previous stories. Reading the previous dark tide rising stories will help.
Another interesting anthology of stories set in the Black Tide Rising universe. My favorites were "Maligator Country" by Lydia Sherrer, "Just Like Home" by Jody Lynn Nye, "Chase the Sunset" by Jamie Ibson, and "Ex Fide Absurdo" by Christopher L. Smith and Brent Roeder. Mind you the other tales were entertaining as well, but these four are what I liked the best. Read and enjoy if you like this universe.
This is the third anthology of short stories from the Black Tide series. This collection includes several sequels to stories from the previous volumes. It was fun to see more about some of those characters, but it does mean you'll get more out of this book if you've already read the two previous collections
True to the Black Tide Canon several of these stories are suitable to serve as excellent seeds for growing into full books. Certainly, Social Distance, Liberation Day, and Appalachia Rex are excellent venues for Black Tide spinoffs with interesting and evolvable casts as well as quite extendible storylines.
What an outstanding addition to the series. The stories are a quick read and action packed. The various authors lend a unique perspective to the storyline. These stories will grab your attention and you will not want to put this book down. A great read in the series.
Some of these were good. None of them were bad. But still... I lost interest halfway through.
Nitpick: The title and blurb led me to believe that it would mainly focus on the end of the main series, i.e. standing civilization back up, but that didn't really seem the case with all the stories.
One of the best of the series. Has everything going from the South Atlantic to the U.S. to Canada to Italy. With dogs, bad ass school girls, heroes and assorted zombies.
Completely loved it.
The only thing I really missed was more of SheWolf!
I don't like short stories, and these aren't very good. Nothing new, nothing clever, no good stories or characters. Lame, really. Turned out for the book sales, nothing else. No need to read this.
I've loved this universe for quite some time. As with all collections of short stories, some are good, some are better. Overall, I liked the stories. Some of them were continuations of previous short stories, so I feel if you didn't read the earlier compilations they may not have made sense.
We needed a hopeful zombie moment. It would be all to easy to get caught up in darkness of killing zeds, to forget about finding a path back to living. Really enjoyed “Appalachia Rex”
This anthology of Zombie-apocalypse survival stories might fit right in with the #garbaugust booktag. Lots of good trashy fun! I ended up ordering the first anthology from the series as well.
