Review Part One.

The Chalk Closet

I actually got pretty freaked out about this story. Not knowing exactly what the chalk closet it. I actually thought it was a room where you either had to bang the erasers, OR, write thousands of lines on chalk boards forever. But you know, the screeching of the chalk board would be really annoying as well.

I give it 3/5 stars.

Review Part Two.

Home Sweet Home

Okay, so I liked this one a lot more, mostly because my name is in it. I can't help but get excited if I see my name in a book, and even though my name isn't spelled normally, missing one letter is still a win in my book.

ANYWAY

That's what you get for being a brat. She, I think her name was Sharon, was the one who told her sister about the old woman and her having powers and what not. She should have just paid for the bowl and none of this stuff would have happened to her. BUT I guess then we wouldn't have a story. Just saying, she deserved what she got. Especially for picking on her Shawna doll.

I give it 5/5 because I just loved it.

Review Part Three

Don't Wake Mummy

This one was okay. It didn't really catch my attention like the other ones did. I mean, I feel like it could have been a whole story instead of just a short story. I think it was just a little rushed...but it was still okay.

so I'll give it 2/5 stars.

------------------------------------------------
08/02/2018

Review Part Four

I'm Telling

This one was rather entertaining. Like, I liked it...but where did he get that green stuff. What is that green stuff? Again, like the other story, I feel like there was so much missing out of this one. I think it had the potential to be more.

I liked it more for the ending though, so I'll give it a 3/5 stars.

------------------------------------------------

08/02/2018

Review Part Five

The Haunted House Game

I loved this one. The haunted house game seems like a game that I would just love to play. I knew there was going to be some sort of twist in it, but I was still really happy with how it ended. It's like, a curse. Trapped playing that game forever, and ever. They probably don't even realize it. Sure, Jonathan probably finds out every single time they play it that they have died every 50 years or so, but the others probably have no idea. It doesn't appear that he can tell them either. I think this one is in the top.

5/5

------------------------------------------------

08/03/2018

Review Part Six

Change for the Strange

Well, it was okay, I guess. I just didn't get the ending. One minute she's wearing a snakeskin jacket, turned into a snake, and then by the end she's a bunny doing track?

I know bunnies hop, but it just doesn't make any sense.

2/5 Stars

Review Part Seven

The Perfect School

This one is like many of R.L. Stine's short stories. I feel like it had a really strong story behind it. But it was rushed. The beginning was great, we didn't need too much back story about why Brian was going to the perfect school, but the ending just kind of jumped there. It would have been amazing, but it had all this detail and then, all these things, tough things, happened in a short amount of time. Tricking C.J. could have had more to it. How did he find the robot room? How was he able to make the switch when there's guardians apparently guarding the door? Didn't he just throw a spoon down the hallway to distract them?

There's still too many questions left unanswered.

I guess I'll give it a 2/5 Stars.

------------------------------------------------

08/03/2018

Review Part Eight

For the Birds

Now this one was amazing. I had a feeling I knew where this story was going to go, but I was still surprised by the end. I totally thought they all would turn into birds, and Kim would have suffered the most because she hates birds, more than anything. But then, that ending...that made me smile. He just wanted everyone to be happy, after all.

5/5

------------------------------------------------

08/03/2018

Review Part Nine

Aliens in the Garden

I loved this one. I wasn't expecting the aliens to be human. Or, at least from earth. Maybe they weren't humans, maybe it was a different earth. Or maybe the humans evolved into something different. There's so many possible things that could be in this story, which makes it exciting.

5/5

Review Part Ten

The Thumbprint of Doom

This one made me laugh. I was actually surprised by the ending. It'll serve them right for being so mean to Carla. But that makes me wonder, was it always just a joke, or was she really superstitious? Maybe she was, but why would she tell them that the thumbprint of doom was something she was most scared of right off the bat? Did she know that they were going to be rude to her? Play mean jokes on her?

Either way, I loved it, and I loved how it ended.

I spun around and gazed down at the pair of hedge clippers, huh, i picked them up, hevey metal hedge clippers, i haven't even seen them when i sat on them, i turned to see mr. Dove into the room "you found them?" He cried.
We took about five steps and stopped, "oh wow" i cried out, standing in front of us, was a huge hedge sculpture, five people carved out of the hedge, the five people were us.

★2,9

★4

10. CJB
➕/➖ Semua tokohnya punya flaws.

Even More Tales to Give You Goosebumps is the third Goosebumps short story collection, following Tales to Give You Goosebumps and More Tales to Give You Goosebumps . The previous short story collection had a running theme of summertime scares, but like the first collection, there isn't really a theme here - it's just ten short Goosebumps stories of varying quality.

The Chalk Closet
One thing that I do like about these short story Goosebumps collections is that Stine seems more willing to be a little more ruthless with his twists, as evident here. The story itself is nothing remarkable and the internal logic doesn't really hold up to much scrutiny, but the twist is a little meaner than usual. It's an okay start with a premise that seems to get recycled later in the book.

Home Sweet Home
This short story lays out its premise pretty early on and then doesn't really stray from the path before delivering on a somewhat predictable ending. It scores some cheap spooky moments with the inclusion of a particularly nasty spider, but otherwise there isn't really a lot going on here.

Don't Wake Mummy
I found myself fairly indifferent to both The Curse of the Mummy's Tomb and Return of the Mummy , so I didn't hold out much hope in Stine managing to make the concept of a mummy successfully spooky in a short story spanning only fourteen pages (although that does make this one of the longer short stories in this collection). The set-up is silly, the story isn't really notable, and the twist is very predictable.

I'm Telling!
Despite it being somewhat obvious, I still really enjoyed how Stine chose to end this short story. However, it does feel like this was a little rushed as there are moments in this that don't really track properly. The result is a short story that feels more like a first draft of a couple of ideas hastily cobbled together.

The Haunted House Game
This is probably my favourite short in this collection - I was getting some serious Jumanji (1995) vibes whilst reading this. I liked the premise, I liked the way the story unfolds, and I like the ending. I just had a really fun time with this one.

Change for the Strange
This is another short that, despite being kinda predictable, is still quite fun. I will admit I didn't entirely see the ending coming - I had an idea, but Stine manages to give a slight variation on it which I appreciated. There is one scene in particular here which I found (very possibly unintentionally) humorous in its depiction.

The Perfect School
Sharing some similarities to the first story in this collection, The Chalk Closet, I think what we have here is a stronger take on the concept. Both the set-up and the twist ending are superior here, and I found this story more compelling. Admittedly I'm not typically a huge fan of when Goosebumps slips into sci-fi, but here I think it worked.

For the Birds
Based on the title alone, I couldn't help but think about Aron Beauregard's short story Making Room in the Birdhouse, found in Hallucinations - by the end they even share a (very) slight similarity! But for the most part the two short stories are very different, and understandably so. I enjoyed how mean the twist ending is here, but the journey leading up to it didn't really do much for me. There's some good ideas, just not really the time to explore and execute satisfyingly. Interesting and incredibly rare to find two characters in a Goosebumps book who are unashamedly into each other and quite happy to display that via smooching (in this case the parents on their wedding anniversary trip).

Aliens in the Garden
This is one of those stories that is kinda fun but nothing great although not terrible either. The majority of this is enjoyable enough but I can't say I was a huge fan of the twist - it's another one of those that just doesn't really hold up to any logic.

The Thumbprint of Doom
This short story collection unfortunately ends quite weakly. The idea is intriguing, but of all the different directions this concept could have gone in, it's a little disappointing what we ended up with. It all just plays a little too straight for a Goosebumps story.

Unsurprisingly Even More Tales to Give You Goosebumps is yet another mixed bag. Unfortunately, out of the three collections I have read so far, this is certainly inferior. Whilst the strong stories are good, they are easily overshadowed by the mediocre and the weak. There's more missed opportunities here than hits, and it's difficult to ignore a laziness in the execution of some of these stories. Don't get me wrong, I still think Stine is an impressive author who shoulders a large responsibility for shaping my tastes into what they are today, and his output is absolutely ridiculous, but I know that he's capable of delivering greatness and so it makes the moments that feel creatively uninspired a little bitter. Thankfully none of the short stories here are truly terrible, I just wish more of them had been better.

2.5/5

Tales to Give You Goosebumps Ranked
