The South Channel lighthouse is a crumbling antique at the mouth of the Savannah River, abandoned and forgotten for generations. Local stories still tell of a mysterious woman in white who often stood at the old lighthouse, watching the sailors come into port...even long after she died.

Now the property by the lighthouse is owned by a famous movie star in search of a remote beach getaway on sleepy Tybee Island. Unfortunately, old ghosts haunt her new retreat, stirred up by the construction of a luxurious new mansion. Ellie, Stacey, and their team must remove the ghosts, who grow more dangerous and aggressive every night, threatening the lives of the client and her family and personal staff.

The lighthouse has a dark history, with many ghosts, and mysteries to unravel before Ellie can send them on to the other side.

The Keeper
Ellie Jordan, Ghost Trapper
By: J. L. Bryan
Narrated by: Carla Mercer-Meyer
I love this series! This book deals with a lot of issues! The business, Ellie's relationship, a ghost/ghosts at a movie star's house by the beach and a lighthouse, and a magician ghost. Ellie's soul still is slipping out of her body...
Really creepy book!
Narrator is always so good with these books! Terrific performance!

This series never ceases to leave me up until the wee hours of the morning not only reading but hesitantly looking over my shoulder while doing so because of it's creepy goodness. Not only does it always leave me rapidly turning the pages eager to find out everything I can, but it always leaves me wanting more and I absolutely love that about it. It is one of the reasons this series made my top ten list in 2016 for favorite reads and I suspect, will continue to do so.

Bryan has completely created something not only suspenseful and mysterious but creeptastic as well. It never fails to have me anxiously doing double takes late at night at anything that moves and hearing things that aren't there during the day. It is one of the few series that always keeps me on edge and on my toes and I just can't get enough of it, The Keeper fit right in with the rest.

It too left me reading late into the night because I just couldn't put it down until it was done and of course, jumping at shadows along the way and maybe leaving a night light or two on after putting it down.

I once again loved Bryan's ability to suck me into the story and get lost in Ellie's world, a world that has seemed to grow more complicated as each new obstacle in her life grows and changes and while I liked, for the most part, where the story was headed, I was sad about some events that took place early on in the story and was somewhat saddened that we didn't get more info about it and what it meant for Ellie and her relationship with said person. Without giving anything away, I do hope that Bryan will continue that part of the storyline in the next book and not leave up hanging wondering what will happen next.

This was another great installment and I will be eagerly (once again) waiting for more.

Each time a new addition to this series lands in my inbox it's a surprise, but one I eagerly look forward to. Throughout this series we have seen multiple types of hauntings and all the different ways Ellie and Stacey go about busting these ghosts, but the arrival of PSI means this ghost fighting duo are not as free as they used to be, and after the last investigation the girls are on a very tight leash, with stricter roles to play and rules to follow.

"We are selling her the fullest package of services we can offer. The deluxe package."
"What's the deluxe package?" I asked.
"Anything that can be added to make our visit more expensive," Kara said.

PSI are not happy with last investigation, even if it was a success. They want Ellie and Stacey to go on training but don't have the time so enlist them on a new job with strict rules, and a non-disclosure. PSI have been hired by Alyssa Wagner to rid her cottage of ghosts. But in dealing with this investigation Ellie and Stacey find she is very reluctant to share her connection with the old cottage and the adjacent lighthouse. But the arrival of Alyssa's sister Tammy brings a new light to this investigation, and a whole new type of haunting.

Ellie and Stacey would be my go-to team if I ever needed a ghost busting, not only for thier work ethic but thier ability to get the job done right. I love them as a working team, as well as friends, and like usual Stacey never ceases to amuse me. With the addition of Hayden 'The Hoff' on thier team there is never a dull moment, especially with his failed attempts at flirting with Stacey.

The initial investigation of this cottage brings little results, and as usual, Ellie is still looking for answer on other hauntings, mainly the Scary Houdini ghost, trying to find out who he is and how to get rid of him. which also uses Ellie's ability (she probably wouldn't call it that) to get the job done.

The Keeper is a book that keeps you reading, engrossed in the story and trying to guess when the next haunting will be and what will happen. I love the mystery behind it all, but also how Ellie has a connection with this site too. I liked getting to see Ellie and Stacey turn back the layers trying to find out every minute detail about this cottage, its surprisingly fascinating when someone else is doing all the work. The Keeper also has the creep factor on several occasions, and while I think it would be cool to live in a haunted house, I definitively wouldn't want to live here.

Eight books is a lot when the series is based on repetitive themes, but J.L. Bryan always manages to bring something new to each new book, as well as keeping a few familiar hauntings in place. The Keeper felt like a new book but one that also connected with the previous installments. The more this series continues the more I need to know what will happen in the end, and will they ever catch Anton and get rid of him once and for all.

Final Verdict
The Keeper was definitely a creepy read, and really caught my attention. I liked how The Keeper ended but this also leaves me both happy and worried over the outcome of all of it. I am really excited to see what the next book will bring.

As soon as I finished the previous book I downloaded this one and dove in. This time we’re following Ellie and Stacey as they investigate a haunting at a famous movie stars new home. Attached is an old lighthouse with a lot of history. Attached to all of that is some nasty spirits. Time to get trapping.

Ellie’s still tiptoeing around her nasty new boss. She’s putting up with an annoying new team member. And she’s unsure what her next move should be. That’s all put on hold while she deals with a whole bunch of angry ghosts that are threatening the lives of the new client and her family.

I always thought a lighthouse would be a good place for a ghost to haunt. It’s isolated and creepy, especially by the ocean, where there are only so many ways to run. I knew Ellie would ignore the warnings about staying away from it because its falling apart. What I didn’t expect was how smart and creative she was in going about it. Sure, it didn’t go as smoothly as she had planned, but it worked.

I had just finished the last book and dove right into this one, once again reading straight through without stopping. The suspense wouldn’t let go and I had to see how it all played out. A few things that had been worrying me worked out nicely at the end. I couldn’t see how the author would pull it off but he did a bang up job if it. I’m now on the next book, The Tower, and its promising to be just as good. Looks like another night of reading into the wee hours. But I don’t mind the lack of sleep. The stories are that fun.

I received a complimentary copy. My review is voluntarily given.

Another fun addition to this series. I really love all the characters and the stories are fun. Not 100% about the direction the story is going but I look forward to the ride.

(I received a copy from the author, In exchange for an honest review.)

Actual rating - 3.5

Just like all the others, I liked the main characters in this.

The beginning of this installment felt a bit slow, but it didn't take too long before it picked up, so it wasn't much of an issue. It was another enjoyable read in the series overall, and I'm looking forward to book nine.

Overall, An enjoyable sequel.

I’m a fan of the Ellie Jordan series but have always liked it best when Ellie and her team are focused on solving a case. Unfortunately, nearly 45% of this book goes by before anything really happens of a ghostly nature with the new client. Part of the problem is too many characters and side plots. I am not a fan of the new group that has bought Eckert Investigations. Between the inclusion of Kara and Nicholas, along with the continuing backstory of Anton Clay (now also twined with Scary Houdini) it took too long to get to the heart of the lighthouse story.

Once that kicked in, the book was great. I loved all the twists and turns in the history of the family who owned the lighthouse, the events that took place there over the centuries, and how the current client tied in.

I also have strong hope with the way the story ended for the way future books will progress. Although this was a 3.5 star read for me (rounded up to 4 for review purposes), I’m sure there are plenty of 5 stars waiting as the series continues. I’ve enjoyed enough books in the past to stick with it. If you like haunted locations and ghostly investigations twined with interesting history I recommend this series.

Though I REALLY liked the ghost story behind this one a few things annoyed me: and yes, I'm talking about Ellie's saltiness with Calvin's decision to sell everything and go spend some quality time with his family.

I know you're all alone, Ellie, but that's his family. His granddaughter. Ellie is not a people's person, she's a bit withdrawn and her life is dangerous and consumes a lot of her time. Calvin is also a loner and now, after so long he has the chance to reconnect with his family. She gotta understand and respect that.

Again, an amazing book from J.L. Bryan. He is a brilliant ghost writer, in my opinion. I've left lengthy comments about the previous books in this series, so I'll only say that this books lives up to it's predecessors high standards. I highly recommend this series and this book!

I love this series. I can't think of any other stories that approach the supernatural in quite the same way: half horror, half pest control. It creates a sense of realism that I find gratifying. Add on to that some fun character interactions, and it makes for a great read (I hope we see more of Hayden).

The world continues to evolve as well, as Ellie expands her abilities and we begin to get hints about the ghostly world beyond Savannah. As always, Bryan has a real talent at world-building. Finally, as a SCAD grad (of Film and TV no less), these books are are warm and fuzzy way to revisit the place I called home for nearly four years.

Okay. I'm wavering here because several issues that had been pulling at Ellie are finally resolved (and that's a good thing, for the most part), but there's a little part of me that wanted one specific thing to go differently and... *gives everybody sad eyes*

No worries, though. Ellie's made of tougher stuff than I am. As shown by how often she gets tossed around and attacked by ghosts. The point is that while I'm over here giving everyone sad eyes, she's throwing herself lock, stock, and barrel into work. Namely, finding out who or what is haunting various sites around town.

Something spooky in the lighthouse? Ellie's on it. Dangerous creeper in the theater? Ellie's on it double time. Abandoned gas station needing some eyes on it? Ellie will figure out a way. Yeah, maybe she's stretched a little thin, but sometimes you need to push yourself to the breaking point so you can forget about other things.

As always, we're given a solid mystery with plenty of deliciously horrific imagery. Lighthouses, man, they aren't all they're cracked up to be. And theaters? FORGET ABOUT IT. Let's see what danger Ellie finds herself in next.

Love this series

I have enjoyed this series since reading Ellie's first adventure. The author has the ability to paint pictures with words without being overly descriptive or slowing the story's pace. I was however sad to see the romantic element end but hope Ellie will find her match in a future installment. Perhaps a certain, elite ghost hunter recruiting for an ancient, secret society? Time will tell. Regardless, I will eagerly await book nine and Ellie's next case.

Probably my lowest rated of the series so far. There just seemed like WAY too much going on - the main investigation at the lighthouse, the investigation and removal of Scary Houdini, the whole PSI thing, Ellie's continued obsession with Anton Clay, Calvin retiring and moving away.

First up: Ellie being so SALTY about Calvin retiring. The man is disabled (because of a ghost!), can't really do field work, and wants to spend time with his family. And that was after a career as a cop, so can't the poor man rest? I get being sad about him retiring - Ellie's spent, what, 10 years with this guy? So yeah, be sad, be a little angry, but don't take it out on the man.

Second up: PSI. I am SO glad they're gone, or at least not front-and-center owning the business, because I just couldn't take it if there were books and books and books of Kara continually glaring at Ellie and Ellie's fear of her. I will miss Haydon the Hoff, though - since he appeared more in this book he really grew on me. I also hate the addition of Ellie's new ability to astral project. It's funny - this series is all about hunting and removing ghosts, being thrown around by ghosts, all the various situations they get involved in, but the addition of astral projection just reeeaaaalllly stretches my ability to suspend disbelief. I hope Ellie loses that ability the longer she goes without using it (which is my hope).

The whole stealing souls with your astral body to go terrorize Kara was cringe. Just saying.

Third up: J.L, for the love of Edgar Allen Poe, please get an editor. Or if you can't afford an editor, at least have someone else read your manuscript before you publish. The rate of typos is just too, too much. You're eight books in here; surely you use spellcheck or Grammarly or SOMETHING?

Spookily good

I finished this story with mixed feelings. I thoroughly enjoy the Ellie Jordan series but I think this was my least favourite. Saying that it is another well written tale from JL Bryan. When we left Ellie in the last book, she had made a life changing choice that nearly cost her boyfriend , Michael, his life but had saved the lives of others. We begin this story straight after those events and it's not a happy time for Ellie. She feels as though all choices are being taken out of her hands. She's also pretty obsessed about catching the ghost of Anton Clay. The evil, murderous fire spirit who caused the deaths of her parents, as well as others. Although I felt Ellie had just cause to want revenge I did feel as though it was taking it's toll on her and those around her. It's lucky Ellie had her trusty side-kick Stacy to keep her grounded with her ever cheerful personality and southern charm.
There is the main story of a spoilt and somewhat vengeful movie star who wants ghost gone from her impressive, newly renovated home, her dysfunctional family and multiple spooky spirits that are causing havoc. On top of that, Ellie and co tried to deal with the dangerous theatre ghost we met in the previous book. So there is a lot going on for Ellie, work wise and on a personal level, though she kept her feeling on THAT issue close to her chest!
Hopefully, with the ending of this book, the next will be more like previous books...lots of humour along with the chills.

If there is one book series that I can count on to pull me out of my slump, that's Ellie Jordan by J.L Bryan and like the past few books in this series, this one does not disappoint.

Ellie is back, still trying to deal with the events of the last book as she struggles with the new management that took over her agency and finding the ghost that haunts her dreams.

In this one, we follow Ellie and Stacy to an island with a lighthouse, currently owned by an actress. As Ellie and Stacy scramble to capture the ghosts that haunt the house of the actress before her family comes to town, they are also trying to uncover the mysterious magician that haunts one of the theaters they believe might be connected to Anton Clay.

Chilling, entertaining and always fun, J.L Bryan delivers in another fantastic Ellie Jordan installment that held me captive and chewing through the pages.

I can't get enough of Ellie and Stacy and how far they have come now and how close they seem to be getting what Ellie truly wants. There were a few good surprises in this book, the character development was great and I found myself enjoying this as much as the others. It also wraps up some loose connections from the previous installment.

I cannot wait to see what's in store for Ellie and Stacy next, especially after that kind of an ending. This review was originally posted on Night Owl Book Cafe

8 read and enjoyed so far Ellie does not disappoint

8 read and enjoyed so far as Bryan sends me along on the paranormal journey of Ellie the Ghost Hunter\trapper & self appointed protector of Savanah from all the nasties that go bump in the night. When I began the first book in this series, I had no idea of the delightful and slightly creepy and always always entertaining adventures that I was getting drawn into. After reading this book, the eighth in the series, I haven't yet lost any of the enjoyment I found upon starting this journey with Ellie; courtesy of J L Bryan. I often lose interest as series tend to become repetitive with little ongoing character development from book to book. Not so with this one. I realize my grammar is terrible in this review but I've again stayed up way past my bedtime caught up in what will happen in the next pages. So, forgive my exhausting rambling and just read all the books! I'm starting #9 tomorrow!

Book 8

Oh, sooooo good!
Ellie is still determined to search for Anton, so setting up equipment in an old closed up garage that was built over his original home is on the agenda. At one of the cafes downtown, she and Stacey hear from a waitress that a glow and shadow was seen in a boarded up theatre. That must be investigated too. Kara takes them to a new client, a film star/celebrity, who's refurbished lighthouse cottage (and luxurious addition) is being haunted. There is a disused lighthouse on the property, but owned by the government and boarded up. With so much to do and handle together Ellie and Stacey are able to sneak out more equipment to use for their stake outs...

I liked it but there were a lot of subplots. There's Ellie's relationship with Michael, the sub plot about PSI taking over the agency, the investigation into Anton Clay (the sub sub plot with the theater ghost) and then the main plot of the book, the haunting at the lighthouse cottage.

I really liked the lighthouse mystery investigation, it was very atmospheric and kept the ghost hunting fresh. Personally, I really like aquatic or ocean settings. I just find the ocean spooky I guess. The client's relationship with her family was interesting and I did like the dynamic there even though I guessed how that'd go pretty early on.

I was somewhat disappointed with the direction that the Michael and PSI subplots took. It felt like though this is book 8 of like 23 now so I'm open to see how those plot lines develop further.

I liked this book. The ghost aspects were really creepy and scary which is exactly what I want on this kind of book. The lead up got a bit tedious and the family dynamics between Alyssa and her sisters got old quickly but given Alyssa was a big Hollywood star I pretty much expected the prima dona behavior. I was pretty happy with the resolution of the ghostly magician and new owners aspects of the series and what happened at the left the door open for future complications that could be pretty darned interesting. I'm looking forward to seeing what eventually happens between Ellie and Michael as that was left up in the air in this book. Good entry in the series so I recommend it.

So far my favourite book in the series, but knowing me I will say the same about the next book and maybe the one after.

The best part of reading a series is getting to see the story and characters grow and evolve. Learning more about them as characters and what made them the way they are. Ellie's past is always lurking just out of view and in The Keeper it is a little more central. Which I love and love learning more about her past.

I always love how the story builds with each book. The way each case is different, has to be dealt with differently and how the ending is never what you expect is coming. It makes each individual story a joy to read.

Remarkable book. I just love this series- Ellie and Stacey do it again. They dominate the paranormal world with just a rubber band and paper clip! (ok not really a rubber band and paper clip) But, with their wits, and learned hands on knowledge, they take care of this newest haunting in no time. PSI's takeover isn't going well for Ellie and crew. But with the help of some old friendly faces, and new - they tackle the Light House haunting and clear the theater of the awful Magician. In the end they all get what they want and it's on to the next Haunt.

I thought a haunted lighthouse and creepy magician ghost would make this book my favorite in the series, but I was actually let down by it the most. The plot seemed all over the place and there were a few editing issues, so I think the author just rushed to publish it before it was ready. It took me three weeks to read it because I kept prioritizing everything else over it. That being said, it was still a good plot, good ending, and more of Hayden who I adore, so maybe it's more like 3.5 stars.

Ohhhh spooky.

And thus begins another adventure. There is tension on all the fronts of Ellie's life. Job-wise the new owners are dreadful, the hunt for her past tormentor is going slowly, and then....the newest client throws a spanner in the works.
Another well written thriller with some fun and snarky comments just shows the depth of story and character development. Rather good story.

The Keeper was an AWESOME READ!!

The Keeper is about a new home with a lighthouse nearby. The new homeowner is a young movie star, with family about to come to visit. Ghost seem to be haunting the new house, can the lighthouse be the cause?
Ellie and Stacey, with one of the new worker from the new owner of their business along. Can Ellie, deal with the ghosts and the overbearing people from their new boss figure it all out?
A MUST READ!!

The Keeper Review

Another great read! The ghosts were as crazy as ever and Ellie's life has definitely gotten more complicated. Between her jobs suspicious new owners, down right nasty new coworkers, and the psychotic murderous ghosts she can barely catch a nap let alone an actual break.
Things definitely seem to still be escalating and I'm excited to see what happens next so I will be jumping right into the next story and definitely recommend this one.

Extremely entertaining and intense!

I absolutely enjoyed this book! This is a fantastic
series full of ghosts, drama, edge of your seat
moments, and some humor. This is the type of
book to keep me interested from beginning to end.
I love a book that grabs my attention right at the
first page and holds it right to the end. This series
does that in each and every book. I enjoyed the
story line and the characters in this book. Would
like to see Holden come back. Great series!!!

The last two in this series have gotten a bit darker. Usually it's Ellie and crew fighting off nasty & intriguing ghosts. Then a weird and sinister corporation swooped in to take over and Ellie's old ghost nemesis broke free. Suddenly, Ellie is battling both the living and the dead which brings up all her own dark memories. This time they're fighting ghostly presences on a lighthouse island and in a theatre.

I may say this is one of the best book so far in this series! The mystery is so intense, the story is soo good. Oh and of course how Ellie become so (much more) cool with her new ability. I love how Ellie seems so quickly adept to her new ability. And Michael? Well you can just forget him, Ellie.

I can't wait to read the next series

Bye bye PSI

I thought the book was great. Still pissed about what Kara did to Ellie. Alyssa got on my nerves. Petty. But the story I had half figured out
I won't spoil it. I'm glad PSI is gone ...its kinda sad I had hopes for Ellie and Nicholas.
Michael needs to grow a set and his sister is a BI&%H! They save you ya bloody wankers. Anyway. Fantastic on to the next
