Cover: Fitting Rating: PG-13 Thumbs Up: 4.5 Overall: A satisfying ending to an awesome series Characters: Well Done Plot: Time to fight for what’s right. Page Turner: Yes Series Cont.? Yes Recommend: HIGHLY Book Boyfriend: Tristian
SUMMARY (50 words or less) It’s always sad when one of your favorite series ends. It’s just hard to say goodbye to characters you’ve come to love. And this one isn’t any different. I’ve enjoyed this series from day one. I highly recommend to all. David has brought these series together in the best way.
For a full review and yummy pic, see my blog post at:
I got a copy for review in exchange for beta read and an honest review.
The Earth Dwellers seamlessly combines the Dwellers and the Country saga and the end result is a great story with the best of both series. It’s the perfect ending to both series and it was awesome seeing all my favorite characters again. Even Perry made a cameo appearance!
I really liked both the Dwellers series and the Country series and when I first heard about that there would be one book that would be the fourth book to both series I was beyond excited. I never read another book that did this and I was so excited to start it I almost didn’t dare to start reading for fear of being disappointed. But this book does not disappoint at all, it was better than I expected or even hoped. I loved seeing this new perspective to both stories, to see how the Tri-realms and the Tri-tribes saw each other.
I couldn’t be more happy with the choice of point of view. Siena is one of my favorite book characters and I was really glad she was one of the point of views of this book. The other half of the story is told mainly by Adele, but there are also a few chapters from Tristan and Dazz’ point of view. I loved seeing all these characters back and I loved how seamlessly the two worlds and series where combined.
There are some heartbreaking moments in this conclusion to both series. I almost cried a few times. And one time I got goose bumps all over because there is this scene that shows so much strength and it was so awesome and it displays how great the strength of people can be. Courage and hope. It was awesome. And the ending wraps most of it up so nicely, while it still left me wanting more. I just wished the epilogue was longer, because I am not ready to say goodbye to these characters and this world and I am so sad that this series has ended, but on the other hand this book is the perfect ending.
I was surprised how much more world building this last book in this series contained, because even after 6 books there is still a race we know almost nothing about, namely the Glassies also known as the Earth Dwellers. And there is still a lot of world building and getting to know this society and it almost felt like starting a new dystopia book. Although I would’ve liked getting a more insider perspective and getting to know even more about this society and the people who lived there.
To conclude: I loved this book, it seamlessly combines two series and gives both series the perfect ending. It is full of emotion and heartbreak and goose bumps. I loved seeing all my favourite characters back and I think it’s wonderful there even is quite some world building in this last book. And even though I am sad that this is the last book in this series, it is a great ending!
So, I'm finally getting around to writing my review of this. I never know how to put into words how David's books make me feel. I get all warm and fuzzy and teary eyed while I also get angry and outraged and want to tear out pages (which I would never do because, well, this was an ebook first of all and second of all that would just be blaphemy!). I want to thank David for 1) allowing me to beta read this book and being part of a family of people who truly care what he writes, and 2) for then sending me an ARC so I could have the pretty cover on my Kindle Fire to look at and adore! Receiving this book for free has in no way influenced my opinion or review (only David's writing did that!).
If you have not read the previous books in this series, then there may be spoilers for your from those books so don't read on. But I promise not to give away any of the really big secrets this book has!
Blurb from Goodreads: The Earth Dwellers is the 4th book in BOTH The Dwellers Saga and The Country Saga. The author recommends that BOTH series are read in their entirety before reading this book (The Moon Dwellers, The Star Dwellers, The Sun Dwellers, Fire Country, Ice Country, Water & Storm Country). So, there I went again jumping into another David Estes book and coming out on the other side still intact even after having been put through the ringer. And, as usual, the book took me barely any time to finish (two days for me with a job and three rug rats to attend to is NOTHING in the world of the working mother!). I can't say enough about this entire series. About how David's mind must just work in overload to be able to have a vision that worked itself into not just one or three book, but SEVEN! Seven books make up this most fabulous series and I can tell you now that they come together with such cohesiveness at the end, you are jumping for joy and ripping your hair out of your head and you spin in circles and sing la la songs!
When I first started the Dwellers series, I was amazed at how easily David's words just flowed off the pages of the book. It was no effort to pick it up and read it and get completely and totally sucked into the story line. And then Sun Dwellers ended in this sort of cliffy and I was like, WHAT JUST HAPPENED? And then, well, then David said he was writing a companion series, ok, so I picked that up. And WOW, just WOW. He had me at hello! And I flew through the books and got sucked in by more of his characters.
And then he sprung this book on me and my mind was totally blow. Not only does he pull characters from all the books into this one, but he seamlessly navigates their passage along side each other and finally to each other. I could never think that these two worlds colliding would work, but oh my hot tamales does it work.
We watch as Adele and Tristan are introduced to a brand new world, one they never thought could possibly exist. And we watch as their romance waivers, but still survives through the thick of it all. We see Sienna (who I just cannot get enough of with her snarky attitude and totally sarcastic ways) still joined with Circ and fighting for what she believes is right. And we see Dazz and he continues to try and convince his community to rise up and fight for justice. Each character coming to us through their own chapters and voices. Each character lending to the total emotional roller coaster that this series has become. You will laugh, and cringe, and cry for them as you watch them make their stand.
And David's writing, ugh, it's so seamless. I have to say that even my beta read barely had any errors in it. It's like it comes so totally naturally to him, it's an extension of who he is. That right there is the mark of an amazing writer. His prose are never boring, always keeping you on edge. You feel the need to turn every page and follow along as the story unfolds. David isn't edgy with is words, nor does he make you feel like he's trying to tell this elaborate story that you have to tie together at the end. Sure, he leaves you with mysteries along the way, but it's nothing your brain can't handle. And I think that's why I really love his story so much.
And the plot, well, as I said, it's amazing how he draws it all together and makes it fit. You see the Dweller world, as well as the worlds above the ground. And, while this book does not take place in all the different "countries" portrayed throughout the series, you get the feel of each country, nonetheless. And there is stil a ton of world building as we learn about the King's palace and where it's located. It's like the books are each part of this puzzle that you have to put together and then you see the most awesomely beautiful picture. And it's a picture that needs to be framed and hung on a wall for everyone to see. I wish I had the talent to paint it and show it to you, but I only have my words. So here's what I was feeling throughout these books: anger, love, surprise, angst, sorrow, happiness, rage, compassion, amusement, pleasure, contempt, horror, alarm, trepidation, elation, longing, exhilaration, hope and oh so many more words that I would bore you if I went on and on and on (I may have already done so). But most of all, above all else, I felt TRIUMPH. Triumph in a world created to bring down those of lesser fortune. Triumph in a time when others surely felt fear and distance. That is how David's book made me feel.
And there are some totally sad parts to this book, that I will let you know made me cry. David is not afraid to have his characters fight and lose, or fight and win. And the anger that is expressed followed by the strength and shear hope the characters possess once again amazes me. The characters achieve such clarity through the actions of others in this book that it still amazes me they could have anything to learn. But they learn from their mistakes and the mistakes of others and it makes them stronger and more unified. It gives them courage and confidence and demonstrates the faith they have in one another.
So, are you not yet convinced that perhaps you should pick up this series? If you're at the end of this review, then I would say that you either have read it already, or your gonna be upset because I've kind of spoiled a few things for you! Either way, there is no doubt in my mind that this series rivals if not far surpasses The Hunger Games in it's entirety.
Kudos to you David. While I am VERY sad that this series has come to an end, I am elated that I was able to take the journey and enjoy it as I went. Thanks so much for writing such wonderful stories. I can't wait to see what you come up with next!
This is definitely one of the best books I've read so far this year. Its beyond amazing, and I'm not sure how to really write a review for it without giving too much away! Be forewarned, if you haven't read the other books in the series, there may be spoilers!
Here we go! Tristan and Adele come up to the surface to find out more about the Earth Dwellers. Siena, Skye and Wilde find them and assume they are their "Glassies" enemies. Skye insists on taking Adele and Tristan prisoners. Along the way, they form a truce and agree to help each other defeat President Lector and the Earth Dwellers once and for all. Meanwhile, Dazz and Buff have made it back to Ice Country, and the goal is to convince the council to join in an alliance with the Tri-Tribes.
I'm not giving away too much here, this all happens pretty early in the story, and is what we would expect. So the theme of a controlling dictator continues in this story. It seemed amazing to me that Tristan and Adele have come so far, to have to start all over again.
The familiar themes of family and friendship are carried on throughout this novel, and seem present in just about every page. EVERYONE is fighting for those they love. And it makes the characters have to face some hard decisions.
The FEELS in this one--Oh. My. Gosh. I had goosebumps before I even started reading, in just epicness of all my favorite characters coming together to rid the planet of evil: Adele, Tristan, Skye, Siena, Circ, Dazz, Buff, Roc, Tawni, Feve, Lara, Hawk, Sadie, Huck, and even Perry! There is several POVs, but the main ones are Adele, Tristan, and Siena. There were horrible moments of tears and thinking, "WHY???" There were also moments of giggling--especially with Roc, I can never get enough of him!
After the first couple of chapters, nothing in the story was what I was expecting. There are so many twists. Just when I thought I knew what was going to happen, I was thrown for another loop. I LOVE that! I love not being to guess the ending, and I certainly didn't in this book. Up until the very end, I was completely surprised!
Somehow the author took two very different series with a huge cast of unique characters and weaved one of the best dystopian stories I've had the pleasure of reading! The ending was bittersweet for me. I really didn't want to have to say goodbye to this world and its peoples. But I can console myself with the knowledge that Estes has more adventures coming over the horizon soon!
It’s moments after I’ve read the final word of The Earth Dwellers and everything that’s happened from The Dwellers Saga through The Country Saga is hitting me all at once. The emotions are running amok and honestly, I’m quite near tears because this compilation of two separate but epic series has come to an end. Please pass the tissues.
Where to start? This particular book brought all the different countries and realms together. The beginning of the book started right where The Sun Dwellers and Water and Storm Country left off. There wasn’t a single beat missed and quickly off I went on further adventures combining all the characters, their hopes, dreams, insecurities, strengths and humor and by the end I felt like I was sent through the ringer a few times.
David Estes, who I consider a dear friend, has written blockbuster after blockbuster and amazes me each and every time. The things he puts his characters through would make a grown man stop in his tracks and do a double take. You would think that some of the things done would be offensive but he does it with dignity and with love for them, even if the outcome is the worst possible. He puts his heart and soul into his books and it shows, through his words and actions.
The epic battle is fought, people you thought were dead are found, people you have embraced die. That is the way of war and has been and forever will be. The Glassies, which you really haven’t heard much about since Fire Country, are the center point of this story. Perry, also from Fire Country, is brought back and has his fair share of an encore return.
This particular quote brought tears to my eyes and a body shudder of a sob: “I can’t bring him back, but together we can honor him by forgiving the soldiers who were only following orders given to them by those who would destroy us all.”…..Tears are running down his cheeks, but he’s nodding. “I will honor him…” We see, in these few sentences, a leader rise from the ashes. Words that moved me to the core.
“My skin tingles and warmth roars through me and my feet are so fast, far faster than those around me.” Its passages like this one that made my heart beat faster and take hold of me and just warm my soul.
I recommend this to everyone who has read the Dwellers and Country Saga’s and I recommend both of those to everyone. They will have you missing meals, staying up to all hours, and more because they are all just that good! Bravo David Estes! BRAVO!
Plot- 9/10 Characters- 8.5/10 Writing- 9/10 World Building- 9.5/10
TOTAL- 9.0/10
Quickie Review (minor spoilers)- And the roller coaster ends. The Earth Dwellers was a fantastic conclusion to the Dwellers/Country Saga by David Estes. The plot was done extremely well- there was constantly something going on, and kept me at the edge of my bed. There were no new stories introduced at the beginning, which helped to keep the pace fast and engaging. The last 100 pages or so were done quite brilliantly, and David didn't fail me with the exhilarating climax. The epilogue was very long, but I found that it was completely necessary, and David did a very good job of tying up all the loose ends and resolving the stories of all of the characters involved. I think the book would have been ever better if it had been more drawn out and longer; all of the different plots would have benefitted. The characters as always were terrific. I was worried, because I didn't know if David would be able to continue developping the characters with such a huge cast and less than 300 pages. But for the most part, the characters were done very well. They continued to grow, and I learned so much about all of them. I finally got me some Siena and Circ, and I also got Adele and Tristan again. Roc as always was a fantastic character, providing comic relief and touching scenes as well. I especially liked the character of Tristan's mother; she was a very intriguing character and I loved that she remained a bit of an enigma until the very end. I would have liked to see a bit more of Sadie and Huck- I found that they were very irrelevant until the last 50 pages, and I still don't exactly know how the Soakers and Stormers got to the Glass City in the end. The writing was great again- the action scenes were very well done as always, and the emotional and heart-felt scenes were also done very well. The world building was exceptional- I finally got the answers I was looking for, and I also think that the Glass City was done very well. All in all The Earth Dwellers was an all-around terrific conclusion to a fantasic series by David Estes. I look forward to reading his upcoming works.
*Big sigh* Wow! Amazing! Everything I thought I would get from David Estes to complete his Dwellers Saga and Country Saga and much, MUCH more. I read this book knowing it would be bittersweet as I said goodbye to my beloved characters that have come to mean so much to me this past year. I read The Moon Dwellers almost exactly one year ago! What a journey this past year has brought with SEVEN books in this amazing series!!
Although there were many hilarious, laugh-out-loud parts to this book, many of my moments reading entailed tears leaking out of my eyes constantly and uncontrollably. There were a few giant sobs, but there were several chapters where the tears quietly ran down my cheeks throughout. The emotions were all there as is usual with Estes, but saying goodbye to each character was as sad as I knew it had to be.
My absolute favorite character was back – Perry!! And the wit and sarcasm by and about Perry made me just want to squish him all over (to my detriment!). Roc and Tristan’s banter was hysterical as always. But. The. Best. Was – the conversations between Siena and Roc and Tristan! The twists and turns of this book had me gasping and almost throwing my ereader. There were so many things that I did NOT see coming, another aspect I love in Estes’ books.
The series ended with me as the reader being utterly content and satisfied. I couldn’t have asked for anything better and I can sleep well now knowing how Siena, Circ, Adele, Tristan, Roc, Tawni and all the others will fare in their future.
I actually cried when I finished this book! I can't believe it's over. David, I don't know how you did it, but you did. How you brought all the characters onto this one book and spoke from their POV each is beyond my understanding.
The Mood Dwellers is such an amazing book, I was worried how you were going to top it in the sequel. Then I read the sequel and said the same thing. With each book, the story got better and better! I was so impressed with how you were able to do that. It's just incredible!
Thank you so much for bringing these wooloo stories into my life! The ending was perfect! I mean really really perfect!!!! THANK YOU!!!!!
♫Another One Bites The Dust by Queen --Another series finished, I'm seriously on a roll with finishing series lately…so this song is for all of the series that I've conquered lately…also…because David Estes is not afraid to kill off key people and he literally slayed me with some throughout the series, especially one in particular from this very book…♫
Series: Book #7 of the combined Dwellers and Country Sagas Genre: YA, Dystopian Source: Own Kindle eBook
⇝My Thoughts⇜
Can you imagine people living underground? Like way underground…so far down, it takes a half hour to get to the surface.
Imagine a fake sun, a fake horizon, a fake moon, even fake stars…and then imagine never knowing anything different.
It's crazy to think about…the premise of this series is an intricately woven one. 7 books in total 3 from Dwellers saga, and 3 from the Country saga, all culminating in one final book…Earth Dwellers. All the players (at least the ones he hasn't killed off) are here, but the book pov switches between only 4 of the main characters from other books: Sienna, Dazz, Adele and Tristan…even Perry makes an appearance. Overall, a gripping, yet sweetly pleasing end to this total series. There's so much more he (David Estes) could do with this world, though. Oh…the possibilities…
I absolutely loved this book. I was looking forward to it so much and it surpassed my expectations! First of all, I have to say how much I think the author, David Estes, is an absolute genius. Taking two series and melding this book into being an ending for both The Dwellers and The Country Saga just catapulted David to the top of my favorite authors list. Every single time I get my hands on a book by Estes I just KNOW it is going to be excellent. Not once has Estes had a literary misstep in my opinion because both the Dwellers and The Country Saga are just flawless!
So, in The Earth Dwellers, basically Borg Lecter is the new bad guy that has to go down in flames. Lector is "leader" of the Glassies. The Glassies are those that live on the surface of the Earth in giant climate controlled glass domes. To Lecter, everyone outside of their dome is a "savage" that must be destroyed. So, now you know the bad guy.
The good guys are all amazing characters. So amazing that it would take me forever to explain how much I love them all and what their purpose is in the story. Plus, that's why you are going to read the book! To find out all about these amazing characters!
I have been lucky enough to read and review every book in both The Dwellers and The Country Saga. I really recommend you start with The Dwellers 3 books: The Moon Dwellers, The Star Dwellers and The Sun Dwellers and then move on to the Country Saga: Fire Country, Ice Country and Water and Storm Country before you read The Earth Dwellers. It just makes it a much better experience.
Overall, The Earth Dwellers was everything you could want in a book! It had elements of surprise and a boldness that will make the story stick in your mind forever. Way to go David!
**IF YOU HAVEN'T READ THE DWELLERS SAGA AND THE COUNTRY SAGA, THIS REVIEW IS BASICALLY GONNA CONFUSE AND SPOIL THE HELL OUT OF YOU SO GO READ THOSE BOOKS FIRST OKAY BYE**
It's hard to believe, but here we are, 7 books later, and at the end of not one, but TWO series.
The Earth Dwellers picks right up where Water&Storm Country left off, with Tristan and Adele coming topside to meet with our fire country gang. The ice country is in turmoil, and honestly, the water&storm countries aren't really in this one, until the very end.
So we have a new baddie in this book--the president of the Earth Dwellers/Glassies/whatever else they're called. He's kind of a complete and total ass, and the gang decides to combine forces to take him down.
I'm trying not to spoil too much, but I will say that this was an amazing end to two fantastic series. I cried at the epilogue. Wait, y'all, let me repeat that. I, Kerri Hughes, who barely TEARED UP at The Fault in Our Stars, was shedding massive tears at the end of this book. And not only for sad reasons, either.
I LOVED seeing the old characters again, and being back in Adele's head was like coming home, since we were in her head for most of the first three books. All of the awesome main characters that we've met during the Country Saga are in this, as well, and it all makes for an epic and amazing final book. I've loved the journey these stories have taken, and I can't wait to see what David's got in store next!
The Earth Dwellers is a culmination of both The Dwellers and Country Saga series, resulting in a mind blowing conclusion as two merge into one. The battle is inevitable. The atrocities of both former President Nailin and King Goff pale in compassion to that of Borg Lector, President of the New City, the Earth Dwellers within the dome. The Natives and Tri Realms need to unite to stop a common enemy from Genocide, but can humanity prevail?
Told from multiple points of view, from the feisty Adele of the Moon Realm, the red hot Siena from Fire Country, with chapters From Dazz (Ice Country) and Tristan (The Sun Realm). It was brilliant! Not only does our favourite prickler Perry makes an appearance, but the collision of character world's is often hilarious at times, Siena teaching Roc 'Desert Language', my personal favourite. Yes, it was that scorchin' funny.
The Earth Dwellers, although not intentionally, carries an crucial message about being accepting of one another, without bias, bigotry, sexism or racial vilification... And I absolutely adored it, but sad to say goodbye to the characters I've grown to love.
Where do I start? This saga was phenomenal, one of the best dystopian series I have ever had the pleasure of reading. If you have not yet read the Dwellers series and the Country Saga I implore you to do so before you continue to read this review. I can assure you if you like YA and dystopia you will have the time of your life. David is an amazing world builder and one of my favorite indie authors. He will take your imagination in his hands and beat it repeatedly against a brick wall while you beg for more. This journey is like an out of control thrill ride with no end in sight, until it ends…with a BANG.
This review is not of the series as a whole but of the final book in both the Dwellers series and the Country Saga, which was brilliant on Estes part. The combining of two great series into one grand finale is creative genius if I ever saw it. Earth Dwellers was beautifully written and the action began immediately, picking up right where we left off in the Sun Dwellers and Water and Storm Country.
WARNING THIS REVIEW WILL CONTAIN SPOILERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
DO NOT READ ANY FURTHER IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO SEE SPOILERS.
David Estes went to bed one night as himself and woke up the next day George R.R Martin (and for those of you who don’t know Mr. Martin’s work he in short destroys everything you love and murders anyone you think should be safe.)
David joined all of our favorite characters together in a battle against those evil Glassies. The story is mainly told from Adele, Tristian, and Siena ‘s Point of view. Skye, Wilde, Dazz, Jade and Feve are around for a great deal of the tale as well. There is not enough of Huck and Sadie in my opinion but they showed up when they needed to and that's what matters the most. We also get to see General Rose, Elsey, Roc and Tawni (though I would have liked to see a little more of that classic Tawni persona) and so many more favorite characters from throughout the series. Don’t forget about Perry - he’s there too!
Adele’s story introduces us to Lin and it is a shame we didn’t get to know her before now; she is pretty cool and a great addition to the story.
Dazz (my bookboyfriend, come on we all have at least one okay & I will love him forever) takes us back to Ice Country, to his mom, Jolie, Buff, Buff’s dad and a great many siblings. Abe and Hightower are there as well, plus the new mustache man... I can’t even write this part of the review without feeling overly emotional, because David shattered my soul into a million pieces, ripped it violently from my body, and smashed it into the dirt with this book. The tears were consistent from chapter 35 on and a piece of me died along with my Icers. I will never be the same person I was before this story.
There were twists in the ending that I would never have expected. So many died, even though I know I said there would be spoilers there are some things I still don’t want to give away so I am trying to stay away from specifics. I cried for Feve’s children, and mustache man's daughter. I cried happy tears for Tristian. Heck I cried for everyone, but I cheered for them as well. I cheered for the people of the sun realm who sang and for Grunt during battle. This book was a total emotional roller coaster.
Thank you David Estes for writing a wonderfully Epic story that I hope to share with every reader I know.

I just marathon listened to the new audiobooks of the Country Saga and the 7th and final book to both The Dwellers and the Country trilogies, The Earth Dwellers. The cast of narrators read like an all-star cast for me and several are in my top 5 list of performers. The new to me performers are now new favorites as they really did an amazing job with this book! I've read this book in print and being able to listen to it this time around was a wonderful new experience!
From my original review of the print version: *Big sigh* Wow! Amazing! Everything I thought I would get from David Estes to complete his Dwellers Saga and Country Saga and much, MUCH more. I read this book knowing it would be bittersweet as I said goodbye to my beloved characters that have come to mean so much to me. What a journey!
The twists and turns of this book had me gasping.
Combining the final "chapter" for both series into one book was done brilliantly. I think the world needs to read this book right now. It's such a reminder that just because something is different doesn't mean it's a danger to you. It also reminds you that sometimes not everything is as it appears.
Once again David brought me to tears, no tears is too light a term. He brought me to a sobbing mess. There are some scenes in The Earth Dwellers that I just couldn't believe were happening. I kept saying to myself "No, he wouldn't do that. Nah, they'll be fine." And then BAM my world would get rocked!! Or maybe Roc'd ;) There was a moment that was so beautiful. Skye and Siena are just sitting there. Siena has her armed around Skye and they are just sitting there, staring off into the horizon Just being sisters. It was so simple, so pure, and absolutely perfect.
It wasn't all sad. There was plenty of laughter as these people from all different areas learn about each other.
“You made friends with a prickler?" Hawk says, standing just inside the secret opening, apparently having come inside during my story, "I'm confused," Adele says. "At first I thought pricklers were some kind of plant, but are they an animal? Or some weird kind of person?"
"We ate your friend" Tristan says, his handsome face screwed up even more.”
I love Tristan and Roc trying to talk like Heaters. It's something that's so natural, to try and mimic someone's accent. Don't act like you haven't tried it!
I think we get to see every character we know and love and get to meet some new ones. I was seriously blown away by this finale of a book and wish I could put together more coherent thoughts!! Well played, Estes, well played. You seriously nailed it.
The Earth Dwellers is the final book for both the Dwellers Saga and the Country Saga series. We've met many people from different tribes or group throughout the prior six books - this is where they all come together.
Life has been cruel since a meteor crashed into Earth five hundred years ago. For those living above ground, they were thrown back into a much simpler but harder time. Everyone just trying to exist in the ever shortened lifespan they now have, hunting for food, fighting off wild animals, dealing with the new climates on this ravaged planet. For those living below ground, those who's ancestors were chosen to survive, they were blessed with some technological assistance but they lost their freedoms living under a cruel dictator, they lost the real sun, moon and stars, and they lost their ability to choose where to go and what to do with their life.
This is a book about war. The people above and below have come together to bring down their final enemy. He is the last one keeping the human race suppressed trying to make the world into what he wants, with those below ground being his personal workforce and the "savages" above ground being something to destroy.
The story is told from several different points of view, which for any other book might feel wrong, but we know these people. We've walked through their lives with them and we were there while they fought for freedom. This story could not have been told any other way.
I loved reading about this world. The author did a fantastic job making it vivid and real. I'm going to miss these people we've come to know so well.
Though I am sad to see the Country and Dweller series come to an end, I couldn't have asked for a better finish. The Earth Dwellers is a action-packed, romance filled, tear-inducing, amazing end to an amazing two series. I couldn't put it down, it only left my hands maybe two or three times in the journey from start to end.
In this book The Country and the Dweller series merge together and all of the characters we have laughed, cried and lived with in the previous book come together for the final stand against the Glassies. I was ecstatic to see my favourite characters, Siena, Sadie, Tawni and Feve, alive on the pages once more. I loved the re-appearance of Perry the pricker, which has to be my most favourite inanimate character EVER in all the worlds of fiction.
In all of the previous books, an important and much loved character has died. I began this book knowing that a dear and beloved character was going to die. But in this book, the realities of war are really explored. At one point in reading this book I felt that I was watching one of those Japanese anime shows that by the end, not a single person has survived. But, like in most great wars, people do survive, and they win, though the cost of freedom is great. I won't name those that pass on in this book, so not to spoil it for others, but they are sorely missed. Their deaths will be mourned by many future readers.
All in all, I adored this book. It had all of the right ingredients. It is definitely a book I will return to some time in the future. 5 out of 5 stars, this book is a legend.
Well, well, 'DWELL!' What an absolute awesome journey it has been. Starting in September, where I Moon Dwelled, Star Dwelled, and Sun Dwelled. Venturing ever forward in October was a Saga and some with, Fire Country, Ice Country and ending in Water & Storm Country!
Alas though, this epic journey finally had to come to an end, (Boo, Hoo, Hoo, but true)
With Earth Dwellers though, WHAT a way to end what has been the most 'THRILLING' dystopian ride of reading I've ever had the pleasure to board.
(No height restrictions either you'll be pleased to know, but with some knock out G-force none the less! You HAVE been warned! but will be far from disappointed.)
Having read the likes of The Hunger Games, Divergent series, Maze Runner, to name only a few.
Earth Dwellers and the entire series before it, is utterly utterly FABBO! For me personally it soooo knocks the fore mentioned titles right down in my list of TOP MUST READS! Not a searin bad word can I say about it. Upon reading for yourself and you say otherwise, I'd think your talking a load of BLAZE! FACT! Lol
READ in the order mentioned at the top of my review for the best experience.
I will genuinely miss everything about these books, the wit, the characters, the intense, exciting and at times very emotional story lines. Most of all I will miss reading a book by David Estes. The word 'genius' easily springs to mind.
Can't wait for x3 days after my birthday and the release of Brew. Never have I looked forward to gaining a year on my age in my life! Ha ha ha...
This is such a hard review to write. I have been putting it off for a bit, because I am just not ready to say goodbye to these characters that I have gotten to know and love over the past year.
This final installment of the Country/Dwellers Series was everything I wanted it to be. I cried, and laughed and spent about 10 minutes sitting quietly in disbelief when a certain thing happened in the book. (When you get to it, you will know. I am still heartbroken.)
We got to see what life was like for the Glassies and we get some new (and returning) characters!! (No spoilers here, you'll just have to read!) I loved being back in Adele's head, but we get POVs from other characters from both series as well. As with all Estes' other books, we get great character development and fantastic worldbuilding.
The Earth Dwellers was a perfect blend of old and new: continuing the overarching storyline, but full of new adventures. By the end I just felt an satisfying sense of closure for all the characters. It was exactly what a final book should feel like.
If you haven't already guessed, I loved this book, and will continue to be in denial over the fact that it is finished, right about...now.
This series finale was heartbreaking and amazing! What I liked: I really liked how there were different narrators from most of the other books to help tell the story. The different POVs were well done and added so much to the story. I also liked how David Estes went all Game of Thrones on the reader. Hard choices were made, people died, and there was sorrow. It was refreshing to read a book where everything wasn't ideal and happy.
There were two little things that bothered me a bit. The first was how long it took the Stormers and the Soakers to enter the story. It almost made Water and Storm Country unnecessary because they played such a small part in The Earth Dwellers. A bit more interaction between those two groups and the others would have been nice. Also, I thought Siena going back to talk to the cactus just made her seem crazy and didn't add to the story in any way.
That being said, I couldn't imagine a better end for these two GREAT series!!
this series is searin' pricklin' full of awesomeness! it started from underground and ended where the earth began, ended and reborn, i.e. surface of the earth. i like all the characters as none of them are characterised as perfect and each of them have their darker sides that they have to deal with. i feel sad to read of through it all, i find that most of the realms/countries/dwellers share the same their journey has been a challenging, eye-opener, life threatening and in the midst of death, love always prevails. (i am getting sappy here. am i? maybe. well, scorched it - i am!)
Last book! "The Earth Dwellers" finishes off two series by David Estes: "The Dwellers" and "The Country" sagas. It all comes to and end in this one book with all of your favorite characters, at least the ones who lived through the adventures. I love these books. They are well written, quirky and funny, yet serious and thought provoking at the same time. Dystopian at it's best. Great for ages 13 and up as there is no swearing (other than some made up words) and no sex. Strong loyalty and morals, lots of action, including violence and fighting. There is some romance, not cheesy or sappy at all. I am sad to see the story end and was thrilled with the free short stories at the end. Great Job! 5 solid stars!
What an intense end to the series! Wow. Hold on, let me catch my breath. Whew. Ok. I might start rambling, but I'm still reeling. There was a happy end, everything was tied up nicely, rings worked out, but even so, there were some crazy moments along the way. Some sad & surprising deaths, some holy smokes moments, some "oh no, run" times, some "oh no she didn't" scenes & then some "holy shit, she really did" points. Yep, this book pretty much covered it all! Every emotion! And it was worth it all!
David Estes The Earth Dwellers Dwellers Saga #4 & Country Saga #4
Wow, what a finale. This book truly did end both Saga’s perfectly, and the epilogue (my favourite part) gave great closure which helped the series as a whole end on a high. A complete emotional roller-coaster, be prepared to tear up, scream, laugh and be shocked the whole way through with every twist and turn. There are casualties, people I loved died and there was never a moment that I wasn’t completely gripped by this story.
I am so impressed with this series! I can't believe I waited so long to read them. The Earth Dwellers was a perfect ending to the series. I enjoyed the Country Saga moreso than the Dwellers, but I loved seeing how the two series connected. The Country Saga are those that live above the Earth, knowing nobody lived below ground, and the Dwellers are about those that live below ground, where they don't know people live on Earth. David went into such detail in every world that he built.
What a wonderful finish to the Moon Dwellers and Country Saga series. This book was full of fighting and sadness. Several times it broke my heart as people died especially the massacre. There were several characters I really liked who didn't make it. Fantastic writing. I will miss these characters as they have been in my life for several months.
