Odlican nastavak price.

I debated a bit before buying these next two books, mostly because they were so short and I wanted a more full length book, but they are getting longer.
We get to know a little bit more about Kali and Cedar in this one. They have fun banter and I just enjoy these two characters. Again, I wished it was longer, but the plot resolves itself and it give the story time to progress a bit before we rejoin Kali and Cedar in the next book as their plans continue.

The badinage between Cali and Cedar is like a fuel - it makes you finish this book fast. They're so freaking comical, even amid shootings and explosions, that you chortle and gasp over and over. Lindsay keeps our adrelanile rushing as well as our spirits blithe once again. Highly entertaining!

Review Gist: Quick, fun steampunk/fantasy novella you can read in a few hours. Recommend you buy it.

Hunted is a novella and that is my major issue with it. I enjoy the characters and where the story is going. Yet the short story format caused many things that would have been fun to explore to be skipped.

This is the second novella in the Flash Gold set being created by Lindsey Buroker. In this story Kali and Ceder evolve past being caricatures of Amaranthe and Sicarius from Emperor’s Edge.

The story is fun, quick, and made me totally lose track of where I was. I enjoy the story telling that provides enough details to let me clearly imagine the scenes. Of course the dialogues are realistic yet made me chuckle often.

I really enjoy the world, characters, developing plots; my only complaint is that I would prefer to have a meatier book. There were some uses of modern terms that felt out of place, but not so much that I was pulled out of the storyline.

I will be watching for the next Flash Gold installment!

I looove Lindsay Buroker books so. much.

* the sassy banter
* the beautiful way she describes facial expressions/movement/actions in a way that almost equals the dialogue in importance and telling the story
* the attractive men *wiggles eyebrows*
* this story has steampunk!
* and the main character is a halfie!

My only complaint is that the books in this series are too short.

Hunted is the second book in Lindsay Buroker's Flash Gold Chronicles. If you like western-themed steampunk, you'll love the Flash Gold Chronicles. Start with the first story, Flash Gold (reviewed here) and just keep right on reading. You'll be glad you did.

Hunted picks right up where Flash Gold left off. So there will be some spoilers for Flash Gold in this review. (It's difficult to review book 2 of a series without spoiling book 1 a tiny bit!)

Kali and Cedar are business partners. But not partners of any other kind. However, when Kali's low-down, no-good con man of an ex-fiancé strolls into her tinkering shop, Kali pretends that Cedar is her beau. She's just so incensed that Sebastian believes that no man could possibly be interested in her unless he was after her dwindling supply of her father's flash gold.

There turn out to be three problems with her deception of Sebastian as to the nature of her partnership with Cedar.

Problem number one: Sebastian has a job for her, a real one. He's planning to prospect for gold out and he wants her to come out and handle the engineering. She needs the money for parts for her airship.

Problem number two: her business partner Cedar not only wants her to take that job, he wants to come along with her. He needs the excuse to go out to the goldfields. Cedar is a bounty hunter, and the bounty he is hunting is rumored to be on the next claim over from Sebastian's.

Problem number three: while Cedar was standing behind her with his arms wrapped around her, pretending to be not just protective, but downright enamored of her, Kali discovered that she liked the feeling far too much. Pretending to be engaged might upset the balance of their relationship in ways she hadn't expected.

And with Kali's luck, once she and Cedar arrived at Sebastian's gold claim, the entire situation immediately went from bad to worse. The only gold Sebastian was after turned out to be the bounty on Kali's head!

Escape Rating A-: The Flash Gold Chronicles are simply way too much fun. Kali's endless inventiveness, her positive lust for all things mechanical, is an absolute delight. Every time some new engineering marvel takes pot shots at her, she's every bit as interested in seeing how it ticks as she is in shooting it down. Kali is a character I'd love to meet.

I've already started Peacemaker, the third book in the Flash Gold Chronicles. I'm delighted to be spending more time with Kali and Cedar.

Kali's dream of building an airship to sail out of the frigid Yukon is her main ambition but she keeps getting herself in trouble with people who want to steal her 'limited' knowledge of her deceased father's invention. People come out of the woodwork to hunt her down, and this includes her dubious, last lover, Sebastian. Just when things are calming down a bit and she wants to get working on her airship, Sebastian shows up with a job offer. With Cedar, luckily, in tow, the two set off on an adventure that will also allow Cedar to hunt someone near and dear to his heart, his brother's murderer.

There's more steampunk magic in this installment of the adventures of Kali and Cedar, an unlikely duo from the town of Moose Hollow in the Yukon. Lindsay has created a fun and adventurous serial that will keep this reader coming back for more. The writing is crisp, the ideas fresh and fun and the characters are ones I will be rooting for whenever I can get a new story to read. The contraptions are fun and Kali is a whiz with tools and gadgets while Cedar is just a handy bounty hunter to have around.

In Hunted, May has arrived and the miners are settling in again to mine the gold on the river. More than one person has their eye on Kali, and for very different reasons. Catch the Gold Flash Fever and check out this steampunk series, I don't think you'll be disappointed if you like action, adventure and a little peck of romance.

Well, apparently I'm now a Lindsay Buroker fan. This is the third story of hers I've read and I really liked them all. The hard part for me is that Buroker is one of those authors that is so good, I find myself feeling entirely inferior in my own writing! Not many authors do that to me, but she does. She's that good.

This is the second novella in her Flash Gold steampunk stories. The first one, Flash Gold, was fantastic and there's not much I can say about this one that wasn't said about the other. The story isn't long, but it's a full storied romp with humor, action, and steampunk gadgets that blend seamlessly into her frigid Yukon setting. Too many of the steampunk stories I've read so far feel like they just tack on the steampunk stuff. Buroker makes it integral to both character and plot. Her characters are three-dimensional and real, but their flaws don't drive you away.

Kali is smart and scrappy. Cedar is everything a good Alpha Male should be. Too many romance, and non-romance, stories try to write Alpha Males and they just end up with Alpha Assholes. Not Buroker. I'm in love with Cedar. I want one of my own!

What else can I say? I have the first book in her other series on my ereader, but I'm terrified to read it lest it make me stop writing myself. ;-) Still, go. Buy her books. This story is totally a 5.

Hunted was a fun follow up to Lindsey Buroker's first Flash Gold novella. My review of her earlier effort sums up my feelings on the series, but I'll reiterate it here: the Flash Gold series is fast and fun. I appreciated getting some of my questions from the first novella answered. Fun dialogue, interesting, likeable characters, and a quick moving plot all make Hunted well worth the money you'd spend on it and the hour or so it takes to read.

A few things, however, could use some polishing. There were a few moments when the characters used obviously modern slang (I'm thinking of Sebastian saying "sexed up" in particular) that pulled me out of the story. In a steampunk work, I don't expect exact historical accuracy, I expect an imitation of historical speech that readers can understand. There were a few other such moments, I think, but this example is particularly egregious and easily fixed, so I hope that modern slang is something that Buroker will be more aware of in her next effort. Also, I felt that at times, the action scenes were a bit drawn out, particularly towards the end. As a reader who prefers less dialogue, more action, I'd like to see a bit more of a balance there.

That said, I am looking forward to another Flash Gold novella!

I loved the first book in this series. Loved it. When I saw that there was a second book starring the lovely, mechanically minded Kali and her mysterious partner Cedar I was all over it. I'm pleased to say that I wasn't disappointed in the least.

Kali is still a mechanical whiz. Cedar is still mysterious. Kali might like Cedar in more than just a business partner sense but she's pretty clueless when it comes to relationships and she doesn't know how to let him know this. Cedar begins to loosen the chokehold he has on information about himself and let Kali get to know him. It was sweet. And for anyone who knows a person who's scientifically or mechanically minded, Kali is spot on. Her curiosity nearly gets her in trouble more than once as she focuses on the gadgets she's seeing instead of her own physical safety.

I love the characters, I love the understanding the two of them are slowly coming to, I love the steampunk gadgets. More, please.

My only problem with these little novelas is that I finish them too quickly.

Another story of Kali and Cedar and this one was just as good as the first. We get to see more of Cedar's personality in this one, and how he and Kali interact. The action sequences in this book are very well written, and the mystery is short and sweet. I really enjoy the description of the inventions that Kali makes and her thinking behind them. Excellent detail, snappy dialog, and a very enjoyable read.

Another fun romp from Lindsay Buroker. Second novella in the Flash Gold Series finds Kali and Cedar are now partners in his bounty hunting business and while she's no longer in Moose Hollow she hasn't gone far and trouble has caught up with her again in the person of her ex Sebastian. If Sebastian wasn't enough there is someone else out to get her, someone who has a flair for the building of contraptions as well. Good, well written story that was over too soon.

Steamy Tinker

I like the banter between Kali and Cedar. Particularly as they struggle with the feelings that they have for each other while attempting to avoid possible rejection. Circumstances do drive them closer to each other as the story progresses. Sebastian, her ex, shows up to involve her in a scheme that will be detrimental to her health while Cedar stands stronger as her protector. They must shoot and tinker their way out of kidnapping and attempted murder while learning new things about each other's backgrounds. I anxiously look forward to the next book.

I liked the story, but not as much as the first one. Hunted felt a little wandering and with less direction, and I felt now was the time for a little more world building. Character development was fine, but also a little thinner than I'd like.

*spoilers*

The ending/epilogue felt a little off for me. In the last story, an bunch of people die outside of town, and so the pair leaves immediately, which makes sense. Now, the same happens, but with survivors, some who'll probably hold a grudge, if not just want the bounty, so why are Kali and Cedar staying?

North to Alaska! Lots of strange people up there.

I have enjoyed lots of Lindsay Buroker's books, and this was one of them. Cedar reminds me of the old TV series "Cheyenne". The character of Kali is not very likable, but I think most inventors are not. The story was good, especially with all the gadgets. Hopefully there will be another book with Kali and Cedar and maybe the other female inventor, Amilia".

Outstanding

Wow great series. I hesitated to purchase this thinking I wouldn't like the old west setting. It's outstanding. I do have remorse though. I'm pretty sure this is the only Lindsay Buroker series i hadn't read yet. Now when I want something intelligently written in the fantasy genre that's interspersed with wit, adventure and romance I'll be taking my chances on unknown authors. If only we could clone you Lindsay, sigh.

Foor a novella the action is nearly non stop and transitions smoothly from one peril to another, while still taking time to do some character development. The budding romance between the characters feels natural and unforced. And as always, the steampunk/alchemical gadgetry is delightful and quite amusing.

Too short. Too short! I so wanted this book to go on for longer.
Spoiler......They finally kissed!!! I was so excited for both Kali & Cedar (aka Milos).
Found myself laughing out loud several times throughout this book which tells me straight away that it's a total winner. Love this series and will continue to read them all!!

I don't really appreciate the fascination of the characters in weapons and killing, but still I loved the characters, the steampunk-western setting, the great world building and the chemistry between the two main characters. I am curious to read the sequel.
