The Fourth Stall Part II
by Chris Rylander

Mac is living in a dangerous situation. At school, he is running a business to help other kids out. He, with his friend Vince, is making lots of money off of this. Sometimes though, Mac has to fire a teacher or give answers to a test. One day, the school gets a new vice president called Dr. George. Dr. George introduced a new test called the SMARTs to the whole school. Everyone heard that the SMARTs were a big test. Mac is trying to help other...more

Mac is back, and things are bad at his school. There is a huge problem with animal poop in lockers, and there's lots of work for that. The cafeteria food is now delicious, but horribly unhealthy. A girl approaches Mac for help in getting a teacher who seems to have a vendetta against her fired, and the school has the all-important SMARTS tests coming up. Worst of all, the new principal is closing in on Mac's deserted bathroom, and the business is in danger of being shut down. Can Mac save the sc...more

Even better than the first!

I hear people say all the time, "There are no 'boy books'!" To them, I say, have your son read THE FOURTH STALL! Then, when your book-loving boy asks for more, give him THE FOURTH STALL, PART II. Doesn't get easier than that.
Chris Rylander pulls out all the stops in THE FOURTH STALL, PART II, the follow up to his debut book about a boy who runs a business of favors out of the fourth stall of the East Wing boys' bathroom.

Mac, Vince and the crew are back in business, an...more

This middle school "caper" book is fun and just a bit over-the-top, as Vince and Mac experience their first barely-recognizable crush on the same girl, channel the dubious talents of an organized bully squad, work with a sixth grade surveillance expert, and take on not only the cafeteria staff, but also the highest school administrators. They have a lucrative business, which they run to earn money for tickets to the first Chicago Cubs playoff game in over seventy years, whenever that day may com...more

Mac and Vince are back conducting their business in the fourth stall. But trouble is on the horizon. A disciplinarian is being brought in to bring the school up to snuff. Dr. George is even bringing the SMARTs, standardized tests which will seal the fate of the school for good or bad. The kids come to Mac and ask him to "fix" their scores. With the help of his intrepid crew of Joe, Fred, super-spy Tyrell, Great White, Kitten, and the other bullies, Mac does just that. Unfortunately his "fix" con...more

I loved the first book, and so did every one of my 5th grade boys who have been reading my one (falling apart) copy all school year. Could not wait to get to the 2nd book-and was not disappointed at all! Perfect for 5th grade boys-and this one could interest the girls as well!

The Fourth Stall, Book II, continues the adventures of Mac and Vince in a middle school environment. Mac and Vince have this business that meets in an abandoned bathroom. Their jobs are usually solving the minor problems of other students.

In this second book, Mac and Vince are at it again with the beginning of a new year. The year starts off fairly normal until a new administrator comes on the scene. Dr. George enters the school with the attitude that this school is troubled, students aren't per...more

So first I have to say that this book, and the first book in the series, are two of the funniest books I've ever read. I found myself laughing out loud several times as I read Part II (and getting some very funny looks from the people around me).

This book picks up pretty much where the first book left off, with a girl walking into the fourth stall and sending Mac's world spinning. Who is she really? What exactly does she want? Why do middle school girls have to be so darn confusing!? I'm not go...more

Oh Mac, what have you done. My 6th grade crush gets into some deep trouble when he starts looking into fried fatty foods in the cafeteria and rat droppings in the lockers. And then she walks in the door. Trixie von Parkway. He knew she was trouble the minute she walked in and she sets in motion a whole world of events that leaves Mac and Vince reeling at the end.

I'll start from the beginning. Mac and Vince have their business back and it's busier than ever. Things are running smoothly until weir...more

Mac had me at hello

Mac's "voice" is a combination of The Godfather, film noir, and contemporary middle school boy that blends perfectly. Mac is such a likable kid. He makes me laugh and even when he's doing less-than-moral things, I'm still rooting for him to win (plus, his heart is in the right place, so that has to count for...more

And... they're back!

Mac and Vince are at it again, running their business in the Fourth Stall. What can they say? They're successful business men. You have a problem? Mac and Vince will help you solve it, all for a tiny fee.
And boy, do they have some problems to solve this time around.
Trixie Von Parkway, yes you read that right, is being terrorized by the new science teacher and has hired Mac and Vince to help her. But as they...more

This book is the middle part of a great middle grade reader series. The Fourth Stall follows the activity of Mac, and his business solving students' problems which he runs out of the fourth bathroom stall. He runs into trouble when a mysterious girl comes for help with a new teacher. Why is the new teacher out to get her? Is there any connection between the new teacher's arrival and the degredation of the school? This mystery will keep you on the edge of your seat until the end.

I think Mac is an interesting character. This story does take a really long time to develop and there are a lot of different things going on at one time. I did figure out who the "bad guy" was, but it was interesting to see what his motivation was and how he was caught. One thing that was in the back of my mind while I read this story was that there is a part 3 that is out now and I wonder where it is going to go based on the way this part ended. I guess I'll just have to read it and find out. :...more

Chris Rylander certainly has a knack for middle school dialogue. I found myself laughing out loud several times. In this second book of the series, Mac and Vince get wrapped up in a series of strange events ranging from ridiculously unhealthy school lunches to rodent poop appearing in school lockers to a high stakes testing cheating scandal. I loved this book as I imagine many 4th through 7th graders would as well.

A spy book for middle-schoolers! This book has intrigue and humor. If I had read this when I was in middle school, it would have been one of my favorite books. A great choice for tweens, especially boys, who are usually more reluctant readers at that age. I haven't read the first book, but I understood everything anyway. I hope a third book comes out.

In the sequel to The Fourth Stall, Mac and Vince are still in the running to help out their school. Mac and his team can pretty much solve any problem. And after defeating Staples in the last book, he proves himself. But how will he stop a teacher from shutting down the school, find out how rodent poop is getting into lockers, deal with unpredictable people, Find out why someone would want to steal lab animals, and make sure his new vice principle doesn't send him to juvie all at once?
You will h...more

I though that this was one of the best books that I have ever read. There is just so much mystery that I can't figure out what the answer to the problem is going to be. I love those kind of books! This book is about a boy named Mac that has a bussiness with his partner Vince in The Fouth Stall at his school. I must say that if you want to read this book you have to read the first book in the series otherwise this book wouldn't make sense. Great book!

I definitely enjoyed the first Fourth Stall book. It was a fun middle school spoof on the mafia book, and it was a refreshingly fun read. The second book, while not quite as solid as the first, hits all the right notes and then some. The book takes place a little after the events of the first book, and things are going well for Mac, but the administration is catching wind of what's going on, and there's someone who isn't quite who they seem.

This somewhat takes the focus off the mafia/conspiracy...more

I definitely liked this book better than the first one. Although I missed some of the characters from Part 1, this book was not nearly as dark as the first. Loved the SMART's and Dr. George. I think teachers in public education would get a chuckle out of the ending, too.
Kirill Veselyev
this book was amazing it is about aproblem solver who is doing very annoying things and the vice principal is on to him and is so close to finding out about his little buisness and has a awesome ending this book=awesome.

I felt like the first book lacked the presence of a real female character and was missing that touch of a female perspective. Adding in a smart and sassy girl and upping the ante on the pressure cooker for Mac and Vince really made this a compelling read!

Mac will solve your problems in his office, the fourth stall in the east wing boys' bathroom. But when Hannah comes in with a big problem, Mac might have more on the line, besides his business. J.A.

So, couldn't rest until I devoured Part II. Mac and Vince haven't lost their touch. The group works in tandem to fix SMART, a slam on our country's ability to assess school achievement.

I thought this Fourth Stall, Part 2, was even better than the first one with it's twists and turns. Really an enjoyable, fun read that you won't want to put down until you get to the end (good thing it's a quick reading, YA book!)

Still funny. Mac is a hoot. Kitten scaring the first graders made me laugh (does that make me mean that it made me laugh?).

Though I agree with other reviewers. The whole testing ridiculousness (I mean, seriously ... the number of hours spent practicing? If we could just be TEACHING AND LEARNING during that time instead of SILENCE and bubbling and "use your strategies" then the kids would come away with A LOT MORE KNOWLEDGE AND CREATIVITY. But the test makers would be out money so there's that. :...more

Better than the first one; realistic memorable character; unrealistic plot but perhaps for the sake of humor and it was very funny
Karen
More fun problems! Might have enjoyed this because of the fun it pokes at standardized tests and the effects they can have on schools.
