אמלק, זה סיפור על ביגפוט.

המאורעות קורים על רקע התפרצות הר הגעש רינייר. ההתפרצות גורמת לחסימות דרכי גישה ובכך כולאת את תושבי הכפר גרילופ, שזה סוג של כפר אקולוגי חכם, עם כמה פתיתי שלג אמריקאים שחיים בו.
הם נתקעים ללא שום אספקה, כלים לתחזוקה או יכולת לתקשר עם העולם, כי הכפר היה תלוי בהזמנות באינטרנט ואנשי תחזוקה חיצוניים.

הם מוצאים את עצמם עומדים לקראת חודשי חורף ארוכים וקשים (המקום ממוקם ליד סיאטל) בלי יכולת לקיים את עצמם.

למרבה המזל נמצאת איתם בכפר אמנית סרבית שיודעת משהו על מלחמות והישרדות והיא לוקחת את העניינים לידיים, תוך שהיא מנפצת לעדיני הנפש את הבועה בה הם חיים.

מה לא אהבתי: איטי ונמתח כמו מסטיק. כמעט חצי מהספר עדיין לא הגענו לעיקר.
כדי לבסס את הניגוד בין יפי הנפש (שלא רוצים להרוג פומה כי היא לא תפגע בהם) לבין חיות הפרא הפרימיטיביות מולן הם צריכים להתמודד צריך לסבול הרבה שיחות ותיאורים של חבורת הזויים מעצבנת.

מה אהבתי: זה לא היה מספיק משעמם כדי להפסיק באמצע, זה היה די מותח ומעניין לפרקים, לא הרגשתי מושקעת רגשית אבל רציתי להמשיך לקרוא

הקשר: סופר מאולץ ולא ברור למה הוא שם למעט התחושה של ניסיון להבין, הו כמה מקורי, למה "הולכנו כשה למזבח". בכל אופן זה נמצא בספר כסוג של "אני רק אניח את זה כאן" (בניסיון כושל להסביר את האופי של אחת הדמויות). בכל מקרה זה פייק, זאת לא הבת, לא השם שלה ובטח לא משהו שהיא כתבה למיטב ידיעתי)
