You know how sometimes you just want a solid, gripping end of the world scenario with characters you can root for and character you can hate?

Look no further. Kyla Stone is great a creating tense, fast-paced plots with likeable characters the reader will inevitably root for. Especially Hannah is a wonderful character, broken yet strong and willing to fight.

And then there’s the villain. I wanted to strangle him.

This is a quick read that I couldn’t put down, and I’m looking forward to the sequel.
I’m so happy I came across this book.

A psycho kidnaps a woman and locks her up in his basement, in a hunting cabin somewhere in the woods. He does horrible things to her. (view spoiler) He only visits her for short periods and then goes back to his routine life. He has highly secured the cabin so she can never escape.

Five years later, she is still stuck in the baseme

So people liked this book.
It is an EMP post-apocalyptic thriller.

What I liked:
-It takes place in a snowy cold and remote location in upper Michigan.
-I liked the characters.
-I loved the action when the hero, ex-soldier Liam Coleman, enters the story.
-There are some interesting details, one I will never forget dealing with the heroine's, Avery Sheridan, hand.
-CiCi was also a great character.
-Loved the action in the small town that

What a thriller! I find it hard to review any of this without spoiling the surprise. Suffice it to say that you should not read this before bed, If you are prone to nightmares or if you have anxiety. LoL!

Kayla Stone weaves you into a web of horror, post-apocalyptic landscapes and the worst and best of human behavior. I can't wait for the next book in the series.
Love this Series so far! will be excitedly waiting for the new Audiobook versions of later books to become available, hopefully soon (fingers crossed!).

This is the first full length book in the Edge of Collapse series and continues following Liam Coleman as he tries to make his way home after the events in Chicago, as per the prequel story. The true main character of this book is a young woman called Hannah Sheridan who has almost given up hope. She has been kept prisoner in a basement, by someone she recognized, for nearly five years. The man is a pure sadist and psychopath, who takes great pleasure in making life difficult for Hannah and puni ...more

I was a bit lost as this one started out. I figured we would be following Liam again, instead we were with a woman, Hannah, and I wasn't really sure what was going on. Slowly as I realized what the situation was for Hannah I was horrified and rooting for her to go, go, go. I was happy when Liam ran across Hannah because I knew Liam is a good guy with skills needed in the crazy world both found themselves in and Hannah needed a good guy.

Their run was crazy, more so when Liam realized they were fo

I bought this for my daughter, who's a fan of this author, and I decided to read it too. It's a short book, with short chapters, but it's also short on character development. I'm seeing five books in this series, and if they're all this short it should really be 2-3.

Hannah and Liam spend much of the book brooding. Understandable given their recent events, but it bordered on tedious at times. Both POV are featured, and there are also a few chapters from the POV of the guy who kidnapped Hannah.

This is a unique take on a apocalyptic book. More of a thriller, full of suspense, than the typical EMP book.

Hannah Sheridan has been held captive for years by a sadistic man, being tortured whenever she tries to fight back. One day, she discovers that the door that has kept her inside her cold, dark cage is unlocked. Scared to leave but more scared to stay, Hannah ventures out in the coldest winter in Michigan history. Before leaving, she gathers what she can and then releases a Great Pyrenees

I listened to the prequel of this series on Audible and was very impressed. This book did not disappoint either. I love that the main female character who may appear weak at first, is actually very strong. I loved the plot and how it doesn’t only focus on the event. Kyla Stone is very talented at drawing the reader into the storyline, making the characters larger than life and capturing the emotions.

I don’t know if I can really wait until March 7th for book 2 to be released! This series will be

Fantastic! There were times where I was biting my nails, wanting to jump in the book and protect her, shoot the man myself, and freezing my butt off in my nice warm house!

There was a lot going on, and a ton of back story to cover, but the author only let you have snatches. Enough to understand the character but not everything and not enough for it to be a tangent. (Sometimes authors give you too much and you forget the real story)

She did an excellent job of mixing survival, apocalypse, and thril

Definitely hard to put down, and a non-stop action thriller. I liked the characters, even hating the really awful bad guy. I’m looking forward to reading the next book, though I’m kind of disappointed that it doesn’t continue right from where this one left off. We go to other characters mentioned in this book. I have to hope that these characters appear at some point though it may not be in book 2. 🥺

I love the concept. There's just so much going on, and it reminds me of the opening to Walking Dead. This novel sucked me in and I will definitely read the next one. I will say that it's a little wordy sometimes and I don't think she's seen real combat, but the story was very gripping. ...more

There is a formula to postapocalyptic fiction, but if you make characters that are flawed and lovable, you have a hit on your hands.
This book is a hit.
I can't wait for the second one!

Such a suspenseful first book. I was gripped from the beginning. Kyla created excellent characters. The plot of a woman escaping her captor during an EMP strike. Is genius.
This is a whole knew level of EMP and horror . I HIGHLY recommend this novel. The narrator did an excellent job for the characters. I hope she is used again.

After reading the prequel of this series I was eager to read the first full length book of the series too. The cover fits well with that of the prequel, I would say it is a scene from within this book featuring Hannah, Luke and the dog is named during the book by Hannah and is called Ghost. The genres that I have seen listed for this book are Sci-Fi and Post-apocalyptic which both fit well though I would also add thriller and suspense.

The book begins with a young woman who we learn is called Han

Holy. Moly. After finishing a rather exhausting book recently, I turned to Kyla Stone's first installment of a EMP post apocalyptic thriller to jolt me from boredom. It did not disappoint in the slightest. I finished the entire book in one afternoon. Couldn't even put it down for 5 minutes even if I tried. The chapters are very short and written in the perspective of each of the main characters as they navigate their way through the harsh Michigan winter in order to survive and reach their final ...more

Well, I was really thankful that my veteran-turned author friend – Mike Slavin- recommended I read this book. From my foxhole, this is an incredibly good first novel in this series. And I found that I liked it just as much as my previous EMP-induced apocalypse book – ONE SECOND AFTER. Some comparisons – many differences. The main female character Hannah has been kidnapped by a true sociopath, keeping her prisoner for at least 5 years – and she is able to escape, though in a very weakened state w ...more

This is my first Kyla Stone book and I am pleasantly surprised. I get in these moods where I binge a ton of post-apocalyptic fiction and then I change my mood for a while. It has also been a bit since I have read a series and I'm happy to get into another one since the past few novels I've finished have left me wanting more.

My review is going to be short and sweet. I really enjoyed the landscape of this book. Freezing cold and forests. Being hunted by a weirdo who has kept you prisoner for 5 ye

Simple, yet devastating

This has to be one of the simplest and most overused basic structures for a story. A damsel in distress, weak-bodied but strong-willed, accompanied by a lovable animal sidekick; hunted by a monstrous entity that would stop at no cost; saved by a knight in shining armor with a gloomy past weighing him down. Despite run-of-the-mill characters, Edge of Collapse turned out to be an amazing story. The characters were pretty ordinary, with little or no layers to them, and yet th

Hannah has been given a gift as a result of a national disaster. Freedom from the dastardly and cruel Pike, a walking talking Snidely Whiplash, only meaner, more dangerous. She meets Liam, a troubled former elite Delta fighter making his way across the frozen northern Michigan forests.
This is a good book. Not really literature, but Stone does succeed in nicely relating the frustration Hannah faces, as well as the indecision Liam is saddled with. I like the short chapters, the quick, thrusting se

I read Chaos Rising the novella which came out before Edge of Collapse and it had me hooked. I couldn’t wait until the next one was realeased. It did not disappoint, is more thrilling, scary and oh so good. Kyla Stone is a GREAT Apocalyptiic. author. You are pulled in from the very beginning. I was captivated by the two main characters Hannsh and Liam, who was in the novella. This one has so many twists and turns that you really don’t know what to expect next. Mercurial! Kyla blew me away with this refreshingly impressive spin, presenting this harrowing storyline and horrific plot, kicking ass and taking names, bursting this bad boy wide open. Satisfaction is an understatement, it doesn't get any better than this. Anarchy, escapades and havoc run amuck, riding roughshod and fusing this baby together smoothly. A survival thriller it is!

A thriller is something that makes us uncomfortable, nervous in fact, but for some deep seated reason we can't stop thinking about it. The thrill comes when we can't put it down and our favorite characters survive against all odds, rewarding our subconscious for sticking with the story despite our nerves. And man, do these characters survive - against so many different threats. In a story that will have your nerves pushing you to the edge of your seat Hannah and Liam su

Excellent thriller. This book not only covers what an EMP would look like in America, but adds a twist as it follows the escape of a woman who is able to escape from her kidnapper after being captive for 5 years. She is pregnant and unable to survive the rough Michigan winter until she meets Liam, the discharged special ops military vet. This book also has a great relationship between the main character, Hannah, and a dog. I love that the author included that.

I was a little hesitant at first, because I have not been a fan of other PA books where the actual disaster is subordinate to a criminal vendetta etc. However, this book makes the plight of Hannah work and has the unique feature that the EMP is what allows her to free herself from a psychopathic killer. The author does a wonderful job in delving into Hannah's character and how her captivity and torture affected her as well as delving into the psyche of her evil captor. I was glad to see Liam aga ...more
