Not wholly needed to play the game, but a very valuable sourcebook nonetheless. The most valuable part are the esaays about ghost stories and how you can portray them from the POV of those who haunt the living. Merits and flaws add a lot of spice to character creation, the dark kingdoms are very illustrative, and the additional shadow archetipes are fantastic.
