The Clever Detective

Rate this book
After six years as a private investigator, Stacey Alexander has the strangest day of her life when she falls down a hollow tree and meets her new client, a nutty old dude with a crown who thinks he's a king. She'd climb right out of there, except that the crazy dude wants her to find his son, the Prince. And that is one hot-looking male. She'd be crazy herself not to take this case.

Detective Stacey Alexander knew it was going to be a weirder-than-usual day when her new client's address happened to be a hollow tree with a door carved in the side. She stepped inside the door and fell down a dark tunnel landing in a huge underground room. (No, she did not meet Alice in Wonderland!)
King Thrugood was sobbing because a dragon had abducted his son. Detective Alexander suspected The Dragons street gang, but King Thrugood assured her that this had nothing to do with gangs. He said a real dragon (as in huge lizard) was holding his son captive.
Detective Alexander ventures out into the kingdom to get to the bottom of this mystery. She meets some strange characters that resemble The Three Little Pigs, the Golden Goose and Little Bo Peep.
Never fear. The dragon is no problem for PI Stacy Alexander. This story has a happy ending with Stacy and the Prince exchanging a kiss...and maybe more than that???

This story is really funny stuff. It could almost be material for a stand-up comedy routine. The comedy stems from the encounters that PI Alexander has with the characters and situations from the imaginary world of dragons and fairies.
The entire book can be read in ten minutes or less and I promise you will find yourself grinning and shaking your head at the silliness of this story. It is an entertaining tale for the young at heart.
This book is not recommended for young children because of references to adult topics (street gangs, drinking alcohol, smoking weed, etc.) and salty language.

Clever, indeed. What a fun read! Great tongue-in-cheek humor. A Modern detective thrown into a fairy-tale world with enough romance thrown in to satisfy us HEA fanatics.

Great job, Linsey!

This book is about a detective who is hired by a king to rescue the prince from the dragon. She expects the king to refer it as his son who he calls a prince is kidnapped by a street gang. But she finds something totally astonishing.

I thought this was a childrens book, and I'm pretty sure it is marketed as a childrens book for the Nook. Not sure why a children's book would have referneced to smoking weed though?

The book is about a detective who goes to meet a client and she falls into this "other world" where the client is a king who is trying to find his missing son the prince. The story has a bunch of fairy tale themes includes the 3 little pigs and Mary had a little lamb. Detective Stacye ends up finding the price and when she rescues him he says that she is now his true love.

Interesting concept. Sub-par plot and writing.

This genre is written much more successfully by Jasper Fforde, pick up something by him and don't waste your time with this.

I liked some of the humor used in this short story, but the story line and the character development seem to be lacking something... Not sure what... But it kept me entertained.. Brought out the kid in me!

Took me literally 10 minutes to read. Kinda cute idea, but too juvenile for me and too old for my kids. Modernized nursery rhymes could be fun, though...Has potential. A silly book for a young teen in a silly mood. Or something like that.

Cute , little , humourous story that was really short. I'm confused as to what age group is the intended audience. I came across it on Kindle in the childrens book section. Not something I'd read to my 6 year old but I enjoyed it. In fact I've already downloaded book 2 of the series.

This was not cute and it really wasn't clever.

This was about a chapter long and I have no idea how this thing has so many glowing reviews.

Recommended? No. I hate stories that aren't even stories.

This was stupid.

Super short fairy tale, slightly meets modern day woman. I was a bit confused while reading it, since she seems to be in an alternate place rather than reality. I kept expecting her to wake up at the end as though she was dreaming. Not my favorite read, but quick and somewhat painless to finish.

Surprisingly fun and humorous twist to children's stories with an adult spin. A detective is thrown into the fantasy world to solve a mystery. Think "The Three Little Pig"s on steroids and humor.

thought it was a book for my 11 year old but I'm glad I read it before her. I thought it was comical but not for her.

First in the very whimsical Stacey Alexander mystery series. This is one is quite short and reads quickly and is filled with fairy tale characters as Alexander tries to find the missing prince.
