About the author

Kirsten Boie was born in Hamburg in 1950. She studied German and English literature and wrote a doctoral thesis on a topic in the field of literary research. She worked as a secondary school teacher in Hamburg from 1978 until 1983. When she adopted a child she had to stop teaching and began to write. Her first book "Paule ist ein Glücksgriff" (1985) was very well received and won several awards.

Since then she has published more than 60 books for children and teens that have been translated into many languages. Special mention must be made of her novels for young adults that critically examine social issues and display literary innovation. In addition to the many awards she has won, her complete works have been nominated for the Hans Christian Andersen Award three times (in 1999, 2001 and 2003).
Kirsten Boie lives with her family near Hamburg.

Super spannend kp warum ich nen Monat gebraucht hab, das zu lesen, aber hab die letzte Hälfte (und mehr) in einem halben Tag durchgelesen, weil ich das Buch nicht weglegen konnte 😁
es hat mich so sauer gemacht zwischendurch, dass der Leser mehr wusste als die Charaktere und die das nicht gecheckt haben ! (Vor allem Jarven im Lotsenhaus😭)
ist zwar fair aber trotzdem nervig.
Jarven fand ich teilweise auch nervig und iwie auch bisschen dumm und fand es schade, dass sie keinen richtigen character arc hatte.
Aber ihre Freundschaft mit Perry war süß und liebe Joas 😎🥳😝 aber die Miskommunikation hat mich gekillt
Fand’s zwar cool dass Ylva am Ende character development hatte, aber mir nicht ersichtlich, woher das genau kam und, warum sie Jarven plötzlich mochte.
Fand es sogar fast spannender als den ersten Teil und freue mich auf den dritten Band, der bald rauskommt, habe aber bisschen Angst, dass sich alles langsam bisschen wiederholt (nachdem ich den Buchrücken gelesen hab)

One of the best books ever. I hope that Kristen Boie makes another to go to the series. I loved how Jenna was like the normal girl that wants to be normal but is really a princess.

One of my favourite books as a preteen and teenager. I was completely in love with the storyline of Jenna (Jarven in German) and her new life as a princess. I never was the princess type od girl but that was exactly what amazed me about the book. They showed all the negative of a public and royal life and not only the bright sides of a newly discovered princess. The political issues of the Northern and Southern Part of scandia (Skogland in German) were very deep for my teenage self and exactly the right amount to process. The love story between Jonah (Joas) and Jenna were quiet important for me back then but rereading it after years I noticed that the friendship bond between Jonah and Malena was even more beautiful.
To put it in a nutshell: a great great book to read and even after years passed I could still quote from this book:))

Combines political intrigue and teenage angst all into one neat package.
If you are looking for a meaty story without overly excessive romance, this is the series for you.
My only complaint is there were a few grammar inconsistencies for a big publisher, but that seems to be the norm of late.

For my clean readers:
Mild descriptions of violence, dialogue about attempting murder, kidnapping, and very few instances of kissing(I think there was 3, total, and most of them were in passing.)

First, I didn’t know this was a sequel. After I had read a quarter of it and couldn’t figure out who some of the characters were did I dig deeper to find out about the book. Oh well. I won’t go back and read the first since I know what happens. Second, very interesting little book. It reminded me of The Princess Diaries in some ways. I enjoyed the intrigue and plot twists.

Roughly a year has passed since Scandia regained its presumably dead king and main character, Jenna, found out that she was royalty. With the conspirators that appeared in THE PRINCESS PLOT out of the country, the North Islanders and the South Islanders of Scandia should be able to live happily ever after, right?

Well, not quite.

Jenna is an outcast at her boarding school, especially due to her dark features that are typically associated with all North Islanders, and her pizza-eating media scandal that revealed not-so-princess-like behavior. After feeling the pressure to be perfect among a tangled romance, Jenna finds herself running away into the hands of a friend - and unexpected trouble.

Things are also rocky on the home front. Food shortages and attacks supposedly staged by the country's rebels are destroying the reforms that King Magnus, his sister, and other government members installed to help bring about peace between the previously divided country. Is a coup truly going to ruin all hope for a united Scandia, despite the different economic classes and physical features?

THE PRINCESS TRAP is a book full of adventure and constant plot twists. The courageous characters, along with the incorporation of history and national pride, help to make this novel one-of-a-kind. The ending will leave you with goose bumps and a new sense of empowerment.

I really, really wanted to like this book. But...I didn't.

I didn't read the first book, but I really didn't need to and do not plan on it anymore. I bought the book because it looked interesting and I was desperate for a new book, but ended up throwing it in the trash immediately after finishing.

The characters I found all very whiney and immature, especially Jenna. All of the characters were very flat and uninteresting, as well, and I didn't see any character arc in Jenna at all throughout the book.

The plot was all right. It was exciting in some places but seemed to be drawn out and slow in others.

I don't know what genre this book is but it is not young adult. It seems very much to be geared towards middle grade readers but it had a swear word or two used in it and I didn't know that was okay for middle grade. So I'm confused.

So this book left me with no connection at all to the characters, an empty wallet, and a lot of confusion.

Another exciting, fluffy book in is series. I always feel like comparing this to The Princess Diaries, but it's really not much like it at all. The only similarity is the normal girl who suddenly finds out she's a princess, and maybe her friend Bea kind of reminds me of Lily. But the books are more serious, with all sorts of political intrigue going on. They're still fun books, though, with teenage romance and things going on. With both of these books, as I first started reading them, I kept thinking they weren't so great. I think it might be because these books are not originally written in English, so it takes a little while to get into the flow of the translation. That's my theory anyway. Overall, a fun piece of fluff.

I loved this book! It was interesting, action-packed, and cool! It did include some romance, which was really cute and I reread it twice right after I read it the first time because I didn't want it to be over. It was super good and I recommend it to everyone!

📚 Zusammenfassung:
Die junge Prinzessin Jarven gerät inmitten eines politisch aufgewühlten Königreichs Skogland unter enormen Druck: Reformen sollen Gerechtigkeit bringen, doch Anschläge, Versorgungsengpässe und Unmut der Bevölkerung drohen die fragile Einheit zu zerstören. Jarven fühlt sich überfordert mit ihrer Rolle, gerät zur Zielscheibe der Öffentlichkeit und wird schließlich entführt – mitten in einem Machtkampf zwischen Rebellen und Putschisten. 

💬 Meine Meinung:
Kirsten Boie zeigt eindrücklich Themen wie Macht, Verantwortung und Ungleichheit – eine klare Stärke des Buches. Die Welt von Skogland wirkt durch politische Spannungen und innere Kämpfe der Hauptfigur glaubwürdig und anregend.
Doch: Jarvens emotionale Reise hat mich weniger mitgenommen als erhofft. Die Verbindung zu ihr und ihr Konflikt wirkten für mich manchmal zu entfernt, wodurch die Spannung nicht durchgängig so mitreißend war, wie sie sein könnte.
Der Schreibstil bleibt solide – klar, gut lesbar und mit einer Prise Jugendfantasy –, aber ich hätte mir mehr Tiefe in der Charakterentwicklung und eine stärkere innere Auseinandersetzung gewünscht.

🌲 Mein Fazit:
„Verrat in Skogland“ ist eine gute Jugendfantasy mit politischem Unterbau – wer kluge Geschichten über Macht und Identität mag, wird hier einiges finden.
Für mich hat es jedoch nicht ganz die emotionale Wucht entfaltet, weshalb ich 3 von 5 Sternen vergebe.

Schon Skogland Teil 1 gefiel mir sehr gut - aber der 2.Teil setzt nochmal einen drauf! Die Lage in Skogland ist - eigenlich - eine gute. Die Bevölkerung hat Zugang zum Internet und internationalen Fernsehsendern, Reformen, die die Ungerechtigkeit im Land beseiten sollen, sind gestartet.
Jarven aber geht es nicht gut - sie hat Probleme mit ihrer Rolle als Prinzessin, vermisst ihr altes Leben und Tine in Deutschland und ist unglücklich verliebt in Joas. Zudem wird sie im Internat, das sie als Prinzessin besuchen soll, gemobbt und von der Presse Skoglands lächerlich gemacht.
Als nach einem Sommerfest bei General von Thunberg sowohl Jarven, als auch Perry, der Sohn des Freundes ihrer Mutter, ausreißen und gleichzeitig Bollström und Norlin wieder nach Skogland kommen, wird es richtig spannend.
Als erwachsene Leserin haben mich auch die Teenager Themen der jungen Protagonisten sehr mitfühlen lassen, aber vor allem bin ich mit der absolut gut geschriebenen und politischen (!) Geschichte mit gegangen! Ein Buch, das ich selbst unfassbar schnell und gerne gelesen habe und zu 100% empfehlen kann.
Erwachsene werden ebenso wie junge Menschen abgeholt und mitgerissen und die Geschichte selbst ist wirklich spannend, brandaktuell und richtig gut geschrieben!
Ich bin schon extrem gespannt auf den 3. Band und bedanke mich von Herzen bei meiner Jüngsten fürs Ausleihen und Empfehlen - du hast echt den allerbesten Geschmack bei Büchern!!!!

I’m going to be real honest here. I got the first book (Princess Plot) when I was in 8th grade. It took me 5 years of asking for the second book in the series because my parents could never find it anywhere. I finally got this book after my mom found an eBay seller selling it for $2. I was extremely excited to finally finish the series.

Going into this book I was a curious to see how Kirsten Boie was going to continue the series as it seemed like the last book ended well and had no cliff hangers. The first couple of chapters threw me off a little as when Jonas had his point of view he was immediately talking about his love for Jenna. It didn’t entirely make sense because we never got that hint that he might like her from the first book and actually got more if he hates her guts vibe. I mean don’t get me wrong I love romance and love an enemies to lovers story but it seemed out of place here.

The story and plot also seemed somewhat similar to the last book with her getting kidnapped and having to once again save her country from her father and other people. But, the book was still good and was a very quick and easy read.

I am very happy I finally got to finish the series and glad I got some romance in this book, I just wished it wasn’t a somewhat repeat from the first book.

This was probably my favorite book of all time!!!!! I loved the romance and drama so much, but I have no idea why this one stood out to me so much. I hated how rude the people at the school were. This also confused me: Jenna’s a princess, yet they can be extremely rude to her without being punished?

Jenna and Jonas’ love story kept me up at night. How both of them thought the other liked someone else made me want to cry. The only problem I had with the love story is how the resolution seemed a little rushed. I feel like when they got together and kissed could have been written better. But the ending ending was cute.

This book gets a full five stars. It was so amazing!!!! Recommend to anyone who doesn’t think romance and kissing is weird and cringy.

(Also I will note that for younger people, this book has a cuss word, an adult in it drinks and is very drunk in the book, and there is also smoking. Just keep that in mind before you read the book)

I really enjoyed this sequel!! Like the first book, it did start off a bit slow but quickly picked up the pace and became a page turner towards the end. I also enjoyed the addition of romance into this plot because I’m a sucker for cute and awkward romances. This book is great because it not only has an interesting storyline, but it also discusses important themes that can be applied to the real world. For example, the injustice the Northern Scandians face due to their physical attributes and the jobs they receive due to their status. Overall, I really enjoyed this book and found it to be a wonderful sequel and read!

A fun reread of a book I liked when I was younger. I listened to the audio version voices by Bernd Stephan, who does it in a lovely way.

This has a lot of what the first book has: Political intrigue and funny quips by Tine (my favourite!!). It now adds heartbreak, more antagonists, and more parents who betray their children. I liked the wider cast and perspectives, and seeing different people work out (parts of) the puzzle at different times. And again, lots of Tine, who I'd like to be friends with.

In this story, you get to find out what it would be like to be thrust into the life of a princess.. just a normal girl.. who gets stuck trying to be a princess and stop a civil war at the same time! Compelling and readers can relate and be grateful they aren't in the same predicament!

Skogland 2 steigt, was die politische Situation angeht, direkter und härter ein. Schon in den ersten Kapiteln gibt es Anschläge, geheime Anrufe, etc, und Kirsten Boie nimmt kein Blatt vor den Mund. Die Situation erscheint zeitweise fast aussichtsloser als im ersten Band, denn auch wenn häufig Figuren in wichtigen Positionen ahnen, was geschieht, so ist durch die zunehmende Kontrolle der Medien durch die Putschisten kaum ein Informationsfluss möglich.
Die Medienkontrolle und Inszenierung der Situation im Land spielt eine deutlich größere Rolle als in Band 1, die Wichtigkeit einer freien Presse wird gegen Ende des Buches unglaublich zentral.

Was in diesem Band ebenfalls viel mehr im Zentrum steht, ist die Macht der Sprache. Es fällt auf, dass die Verschwörer um Bolström und Persson die Menschen aus dem Norden nicht als Menschen bezeichnen. Diskriminierung beginnt mit Dehumanisierung, mit einem Shift im Sprachgebrauch.
Gleichzeitig läuft Nahira in diesem Band zu ihrer rhetorischen Höchstform auf, und man muss zugeben: ihre Figur ist genial geschrieben. So aussichtslos die Lage ist, so wenige Leute noch zu ihr halten, so schafft sie es doch, ihre Leute zu überzeugen, am Ende sogar von Thunberg zu überzeugen. Eine kleine, müde, aber völlig unterschätzte Frau, deren Einfluss auf ihrer Fähigkeit, zu sprechen beruht.

Besonders spannend ist ebenfalls wieder die Dynamik zwischen Liron, Nahira und Norlin, die in diesem Band weiter vertieft wird. Zum ersten Mal treffen die Figuren tatsächlich aufeinander, was zu einigen spannenden Szenen führt.

Zuletzt sei auch noch kurz die Entwicklung von Joas Figur erwähnt, der im Gegensatz zum ersten Band sehr situationsbewusst handelt (außer, es geht um seine Gefühle), und zeitweise stark an Liron erinnert.

Die letzten Kapitel des Buches sind, bedenkt man hier erneut, dass es sich eigentlich um ein Kinderbuch handelt, umso beeindruckender formuliert. Die Nahira und die gewaltlose Blockade des Damms (die der Stimmungsmache gegen sie geschickt den Wind aus den Segeln nimmt), die singenden Menschen auf dem Boulevard, der König und seine Familie - viele einzelne Figuren, die im entscheidenden Moment unabhängig voneinander eine richtige Entscheidung treffen. Selbst Ylva von Thunberg, und General von Thunberg selbst.

Abzug gibt es ausschließlich für die Liebesgeschichte im Buch - die Misskommunikation erscheint an manchen Punkten übermäßig in die Länge gezogen. Malena kommt in diesem Band trotz ihrer wichtigen Rolle im ersten Band kaum vor, Jarven erscheint meist leider noch gleich naiv und passiv wie im ersten Band - was aber auch daran liegen mag, dass sie eben einfach vierzehn ist.
Auf dem Damm und im Palast hätte ich am Ende gern mehr über das Gespräch zwischen Nahira und von Thunberg, den Informationsfluss in die Hauptstadt, die Abwicklung der Folgen des Putschversuchs, und das Schicksal von Liron, Nahira und den Rebellen erfahren. Doch vermutlich lässt sich auch diese erzählerische Entscheidung mit der eigentlichen Alterszielgruppe erklären.

This was such a cute book! The characters are relatable and the storyline is clear. It’s a great book to help kids understand true censoring in the media, while also being entertaining.
