Haru discovers the truth by accident about Chitose and Ichigo changing how she has always though of the man of a thousand girlfriends (technically only a few crushes and one pretend girlfriend but who is counting?) Lost at the festival after being found by Ichigo they both get to know one another better as they seek out the others in the cell phone dead zone. Now determined that Ichigo and her sister can be an actual item Haru is going into matchmaker mode to help her overly shy sister get the man she cares for but the question remains will Haru be able to push aside her own budding emotion for Ichigo?
To be honest seeing another Tsugumi drug story didn't really appeal to me even if Paula is the victim this time. They even point out some of the strange thing Tsugumi has gotten in trouble with because she used a device from her organization or ate some strange substance but this chapter is about Paula's follies (or is it?) No wait Tsugumi takes the drugged gummies away from Paula after she took one and proceeds to accidentally giving the love inducing snack to various characters in the story. So yeah Tsugumi is the butt of the jokes once more.
Migisuke (commander of the 1st division police riot squad) is in love and begs Marika for advise. Although she does not care about his love life she decides to "help" him and take the opportunity to get a little time with Ichigo in the meanwhile. Poor Migisuke is just not lucky in love. :)
Ruri's great-grandfather is 100 years old and wishes to see Ruri with a boyfriend before he passes on. He is a bit of a joker and dotes on his precious grand-daughter like mad but this chapter was still touching as she has to decide on taking a chance of making him sad because Ichigo is only being borrowed as a pretend boyfriend or if she should tell him the truth now that she knows his condition is worse then he is letting on.
We also get a chapter about Chitose's less then appealing cooking (maybe Marika is the only real cooking type here) as she completes to create lunch boxes for Ichigo and another bonus manga at the end of Magical Confectioner Kosaki so please take a moment to enjoy this zany series. :)
My favorite moment would have to Marika's 4th wall break as she introduces Migisuke as he dog and his real rank pops up next to him in the same scene. Marika is very over the top which might be why she made #2 on the popularity polls for Nisekoi but the way she treats poor Migisuki is both funny and tragic at the same time. :)
Good volume! I really enjoyed the chapters with Ruri's great grandpa. I like that Ruri's been having more character development recently. I also liked seeing her views of her friends in this book, and what they mean to her. I don't always consider everything from her perspective, as she's not one of the main characters, and it was nice to see.
On the subject of Haru, who the first two or so chapters of volume 13 were dedicated to, I'm not sure how I feel. On the one hand, I'm glad she knows that Raku and Chitoge's relationship is fake, and isn't hating his guts anymore. On the other hand, I'm not sure if her developing a crush on him was necessary. I like their similar tastes, though. That's kind of fun. Honestly, at this point, roughly halfway through the series, I think that another male character should be introduced. The guy-girl ratio is ridiculously skewed, which is mostly fun, but also a bit much. However, I do think the introduction of the younger set of girls (i.e. Fu, Paula, and Haru) has added an interesting new dynamic to the story, especially as we get to know them better.
I overall enjoyed this volume, and would definitely recommend reading it. I will be reading the next one as soon as it comes in from the library. 4.5 stars.
From the end of the last volume, we get an interesting development from Haru. Finding out that Raku and Chitoge are fake dating, her feelings change regarding him. She forces herself to rethink her previous judgments, and realizes that her sister actually has a chance with him now. Of course, her crush on him starts becoming even more apparent, but I do like that she learns to trust what he says because of this. She actually relents to trusting him more now that she understands.
There are a couple comedic chapters after this, where another badly-tested drug is passed around, and one where Marika forces Raku to pretend to be her boyfriend, and one where Chitoge tries cooking something edible for Raku.
But the main plot line is when Ruri is forced to visit her “dying” (or just dying) grandfather, and ends up taking Raku pretending to be her boyfriend, and Shu, with her. This is a development in seeing Ruri in a new light, and I like her, but it’s also a bit sad. It explains her relationship with Shu more, though.
A good volume overall. Will be reading the next one soon.
While there was a lot of fluff in this particular volume, two things made it stand out: Haru and Ruri. Both had a chance to really shine and they took it. Haru was finally able to attain some serious character growth, which was a pleasure to see. I love how much she loves her sister. But it's also nice to see her acknowledge her own needs.
The storyline with Ruri could easily have only been a fluff piece, with the whole pervy old man schtick, but it came out better than expected, with some wonderful hint of depth from Maiko, which was nice to see. I think Maiko doesn't get near enough chances to shine.
Overall, this was a nice volume. I even liked the Lunchbox scenario at the end because it added a hint of depth and maybe a smidge of growth to Kirisaki who has really faded into the woodwork at this point. My only complaint? That the main storyline went absolutely nowhere in this volume. I hate how that's dragging out.
This story really pulled at my heart strings and brought a well deserved spotlight to Ruri and her family. Shu wins some serious brownie points in this one, too! Let's hope they get somewhere in the next volume!! >.<
First, why did I give this 4 stars? The story about Ruri Miyamoto and her great-grandpa included a part almost never see in manga or rom-coms; she told the truth when it was not easy! That immediately propelled her to my favorite character status for Nisekoi. The remainder of the volume was the same old crap.
At the end of the manga, there is a reader ranking of the characters. It is no surprise that Kosaki Onodera is ranked first, but Marika Tachibana is second!? As I've mad clear in earlier reviews, I think she is awful (one-dimensional, manipulative, . . .). Obviously, I'm not the typical reader for this manga!
Another mostly filler volume. I want to know who the final girl with the key is, if there is a fourth one. I am enjoying spending more time with the secondary characters, and Ruri and Shu are totally a ship for me :) I enjoyed the three chapters about her great grandpa, they were pretty sweet. Chitoge is getting less and less page time in these last few volumes as well... I just feel like there could be a better balance with developing the secondary characters and progressing the plot at the same time, with just a few breaks for side stories like this volumes.
This volume had somereally sweet moments. I really enjoyed seeing Ruri's story with her great grandfather. Onedera's sister falling for Raku feels a bit forced but her character developed a bit as a result. This was better than the last volume and it had some decent laughs along the way.
