You thought I reached my peak in obscure American Girl spin off book reviews with Minute Mysteries...allow me to introduce: Minute Mysteries 2.

The company used to be so fun with all of the weird and wacky tie-ins from their main historical doll line - and don't get me wrong. I'm really enjoying their modern books, but there's something so delightful about spotting one of these in the wild.

In the second Minute Mystery book, we get short stories based on Molly, Addy, Samantha, Felicity, Kaya, Kit, Kirsten, Josefina. The stories are categorized as One-Minute, Three-Minute, and Five-Minute Mysteries and each contain some sort of tricky thing to figure out.

For example, "Molly's Bake Sale" contains a word problem that has you calculating how many cookies and brownies the girls sold at a bake sale to raise money for the war effort.

"Trouble in Town" is a mystery with Kirsten where she discovers that a new person in the local show is a thief and a liar! But how did she know? (hint: the clues are right there!)

"Dots and Dashes" has the reader puzzling out a secret message from Samantha to Nellie using Morse code!

From what I can tell, most of the stories reuse images and situations from the real books but add in a little twist or two for you to figure out. So, if you can't track down a copy, you can know that there's no cannon additions for these books.

One nice thing is that there's a decent mix between math and logic-based puzzles, which was a fun way to keep me on my toes!

Overall, these were really fun BUT not a necessity to the discerning collector!

I like how the book tells you about how to live in the past. The mystery in the back of each story was fun to solve!
