New York Times bestsellers and sewer surfing super-sleuths Mango & Brash are back in the seventh volume of the smash hit InvestiGators series!
Unsinkable detectives Mango and Brash are back in InvestiGators: All Tide Up, a high seas adventure that takes the hit series by John Patrick Green to uncharted waters!
When a cruise captain is found drifting at sea and delirious, the search begins for his missing ship and passengers! Did it sink? Was it boat-napped? Are supernatural forces at play? And can the InvestiGators unravel this maritime mystery before a second cruise befalls a similarly unfathomable fate? Seas the day and find out in this new nautical adventure!

I am a big fan of the InvestiGators and it is one of my top reader advisory recommendations that I give out a couple times a week at my library. This one continues fun adventures of Mango and Brash. I laughed so many times throughout the story and it was a fun fast read that really pulls in the read. I enjoy graphic novels and this one was another winner that will be at the top of my list for my patrons.
This is the 7th installment of the InvestiGator's series by John Patrick Green. I read this book with my son (8) who is a huge fan and collects all InvestiGator's books--he absolutely LOVED it and can't wait to get his hands on a copy! He was so surprised he could read this in advance.
Mango and Brash, missing cruise ship, piiirrrraaates, tons of adventures and a great deal of punny jokes! The puns has always been my favorite with it comes to InvestiGators. The artwork were amazing and it really brought the characters' conversations to life. My son's favorite parts were bringing back some of the characters from previous installments and the mystery! The ending was not as predicted, it was so perfect. My son was already asking to read the next InvestiGators book!
Warmest thanks to NetGalley for the Advanced, publisher, and the author for letting me read this e-book copy of this title.
Did a book exchange with my dad and brother, and my brother gave me this book to read. It was nostalgic, though I think my graphic novel days are over.
The captain of a cruise ship shows up in a life raft spouting nonsense. The InvestiGators are on the case of where the missing cruise ship could be as well as why the investor billionaire Mr. Dollaz is only charging $1 per person for his next cruise. The deal seems way too good to be true, so what does this tycoon have up his sleeves?
Another curious mystery for the InvestiGators to solve that is humorously told and laden with puns. Hand this to fans of the series.
Notes on content: Language: None Sexual content: None Violence: There are some perilous situations, but everyone ends up fine. Ethnic diversity: No ethnic backgrounds stated, people are depicted with a variety of skin colors GBLTQ+ content: None specified Other: There's a potential ghost but it's kinda Scooby Doo-ish
Here purely because the first in a spin-off series was so expertly done, so punsomely clever and so well written (https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...), I found this took some time to really hit full speed, but once it did it was fine. Here a cruise ship captain is rescued from the sea, sans cruise ship – and whisked away by a billionaire employer before the truth can come out. Our two investi-gators, with the emphasis on the alligator bit, have to get on board the cut-price sequel cruise and try and work out just what is happening.
Now, to start with the actual intrigue is perhaps too deep for this age range book – this is not an old bloke walking around a school in a bedsheet keeping people from finding a treasure. It's actually something to stump anyone turning up to this, and it might be the first time a young reader really gets that feeling of having no idea what is happening. But then the other side of things comes in, as the young reader just has no idea why the hell their parent is laughing along to the jokes dropped all over the place for the adults, mostly involving musical puns. The many other jokes are suitable for the target reader, and between them and the gators we learn all about life on board a ship.
It is in the finish a fairly convoluted drama, but the style and everything is very amenable, the education and piratical fun will go down very well, and this will surely remain a decent entrant to this series. Book Seven, as it is, gets four stars from me, for these refuse to talk down to the young, fail to alienate the old, and create reads that are certainly not disposable.
Thank you NetGalley and First Second Books for the ARC of InvestiGators: All Tide Up by John Patrick Green. This children's book is a literary gem, skillfully blending puns and humor that will have young readers and their parents chuckling with every turn of the page. We meet the Coast Gourds rescuing a ship captain at sea. The very short rescue couldn't have been any fishier, when the captain seems to be quite in shock and shaken up terribly. there is a possible chance that the passengers and crew aboard had perished. Did they ship sink or not?
The Coast Gourds eager to know the outcome reach out to InvestiGators Brash and Mango to uncover the truth behind the SeaDues I ship. And their work gets easier, yet complicated when billionaire Bill N. Dollaz, owner of the expedition company decides to send a second ship on an expedition with 500 passengers and 8 crew members! Will Brash and Mango be able to uncover the truth before SeaDues II gets into danger?
Follow the silly, fun filled, pun soaked adventure by the duo and get shocked by the twist at the end. But what truly elevates "InvestiGators: All Tide Up" is the captivating artwork that brings this comic book to life. The illustrations are an absolute visual delight, making every scene burst with energy and charm. My kids will definitely love this and i am sure yours will also love it.
John Patrick Green is a veritable wealth of dad jokes and a master of forming them into fun books for parentsYOUNG READERS who will TOTALLY understand all of these subtle references:
Seriously, three years and seven books already with twooffshoots! Green's a creative genius! (or secretly made a huge backlog that is getting released at a rate that makes him LOOK like a creative genius, though that's also genius)
Absolutely recommended for fans of the prior books! References to past adventures in this one, so it may be confusing/spoilers for anyone totally new to the series.
Another good story in the InvestiGators series. Artwork is, as always, enjoyable and clear so you know who is who from start to finish. The mystery was fun and not as predictable - there was a definite twist - as some of the previous books in the series. I have not found the other spin off series as enjoyable, so I was happy to be back with the original crew as they sorted out the disappearance of the cruise ship.
There are so many puns that it can be a little much at times, but I suspect that kids would not catch all of them, and they and the malapropisms are definitely used as teachable moments for early and developing readers.
You don't have to have read the other books in the series to be able to pick up this one and enjoy it, but they definitely build off of each other in more than just the footnotes way. If you have read the other books, this was another great addition and probably the one that I enjoyed the most to date. Maybe it's because I have finally settled into the style of storytelling and the puns, and that I know the characters better as well as their competencies and incompetencies.
I don't want to spoil anything but C-ORB played a more prominent role here, which was long awaited and much deserved. I think that he was my favourite part of this book.
My creative team (my 14, 10, and 7 year old boys and myself) really enjoyed the opportunity to read the advance copy of this book. Here is our honest review: When I told my 10 year old he could help me review an InvestiGators book before anyone could buy it he practically jumped out of his skin in excitement. The 10 year old says that he loved the humor throughout the book and the mystery with the twist at the end. My 14 year old says that the plot line is funny and entertaining. He loves the play on words. My 7 year old loves InvestiGators because they are funny, Mango is his favorite character. I think there are so many benefits to graphic novels. If you can help kids begin to love reading they will continue to grow as readers and many kids will love reading InvestiGators, which will help them become lifelong readers. Even when there is potty humor in the book (though I was grateful that there was only one small potty humor part in this book since those are not my personal favorites). As a mother and teacher I love that InvestiGators appeals to a wide range of ages and reading levels. InvestiGators: All Tide Up can be read quickly by many. And for many, after finishing the book, they will enjoy going back and rereading and laughing again.
The best way to get some love from my kids is to tell them I have the new Investigators book. If I tell them I got an ARC of the next one it’s even better 😏 My 2 sons and I have been loving those books for the last few years and we always laugh so much at Mango and Brash’s puns and crazy ideas!
I’m letting my 13 y.o son review this one since he’s an avid fan of the series:
“I was so happy to read the new Investigators!
I really liked: - that we learned more about the Seven backstory, how he lost his arm… - the puns, the jokes, the play on words like usual - the mentions of a possible return of Daryl with the baker gone,… - the new character Bill with the golden tower/the golden pipes,… - the return of some favourite characters (I don’t want to say who to avoid spoiler ;) - the twist and the turns of the story, the ending is unexpected
Can’t wait for next book hoping for Daryl’s return!”
Thank you NetGalley for the advanced copy. We will get our physical copy as usual to add to our collection and to reread often!
John Patrick Green did it again. Another hilarious and awesome InvestiGators book! The story is hilarious, there are so many laugh-out-loud and snort-inducing moments, and the drawings are perfect. I will keep repeating it every chance I get: if you have a kid who doesn’t love reading, they have been reading the wrong books. Give them something FUN. And this is one of those books I will be recommending to those who have middle-grade kids who “don’t like reading”. They will. Guaranteed. With a book series like this (and, to be honest, all by this author), every kid will learn to love books. At least those books. And I believe books like these are a gateway to opening doors to more books. This one also is the 7th book in the series – what more can give a kid a confidence boost in their own ability to read and enjoy books that realization that HEEEEY THIS IS THE 7TH BOOK IN THE SERIES I’M READING NOW? There really should be more books like this one. I will be looking forward to the next book by John Patrick Green!
Brash and Mango are back with another silly pun-filled adventure. When a cruise captain is rescued after his ship goes missing, the coast gourd is suspicious, and the InvestiGators take the job. They sleuth around the corporate offices of the cruise line's new owner, Bill N. Dollaz, and discover that he's sending out yet another ship of vacationers. The gators have to find out what he's up to and stop it before even more people disappear forever.
This is the funniest book I've read since Alcatraz vs the Evil Librarians, or maybe since the Wretched Waterpark. Either way, the InvestiGators is hilarious. I laughed out loud at the flawless execution of myriad puns, and I was delighted by the mystery and even the character growth. I can't believe I've never read any of this series before, but that's about to change!
Thank you to NetGalley and First Second publishing for this ARC. All opinions are my own.
Mango and Brash are back for a seafaring adventure with their signature puns and corny jokes. Arrrr!
A whole cruise liner has disappeared, left with nothing but the captain adrift. The InvestiGATORS get on the case, sneaking up the gold-plated pipes into Bill N Dollaz’s mansion, to figure out why he has acquired another cruise liner and is offering $1 tickets for it 🫨
He’s collecting souls, and the malapropistic duo are to uncover the mystery and foil his plan!
“I’m an alligator! I’m ambiguous! I mean, AMPHIBIOUS!”
Mango and Brash encounter pirates, and the BAMOODA triangle, and a rapscallion who well, is a scallion who raps 🤔 and did you hear? They ended up having to…WALK THE PLANK 🤪
Great fun and I’m so pleased that our #kidlit readers will get to enjoy all this word play, and acquire reading chops with this chapterised graphic novel.
It may not be "Talk Like a Pirate" Day until next month (September 19, in case you are wondering), but you can get lots of practice by reading this seventh Investigators installment. Brash and Mango find themselves on a cruise run by Bill N. Dollaz. For some reason he has immediately launched a second cruise (Sea Dues II) after the first one (Sea Dues I) was lost at sea. The only soul recovered from that first cruise by the Sea "Gourd" (run by a bunch of squash) was the Captain and he had "the Willies." Kept repeating "Willy Nilly" and wandering in a daze. Will Mango and Brash find out what that means? What will happen when pirates attack? Well they get to brush up on their pirate speak. That's for sharrrr. Full of all the puns and tongue-in-cheek humor we have come to expect from this series, you will love your voyage to the "Bamooda Triangle."
Mango and Brash are back in the seventh installment of the InvestiGators series! A missing cruise ship and passengers, ghosts, pirates, high seas adventure, and a bounty of pirate puns… All Tide Up will keep readers of all ages laughing out loud over Mango and Brash’s antics as they don pirate gear, do their best to talk like pirates, and go undercover to locate hundreds of missing passengers from the infamous pirate ghost, Willy Nilly.
My kids (5 & 7), who are HUGE fans of the InvestiGators series and have read them all multiple times, declared All Tide Up is their new favorite. The pirate theme was a big hit and they loved the callbacks to previous books and reuniting with favorite characters from stories past. They said All Tide Up gets all the stars!
This book is full of puns and silly scenarios that many children will enjoy. This is a good graphic novel for children who like to ready more comical style stories. For children who do not like to read, this book may help them get into reading a bit more. It is a fast simple read that is more likely to keep the attention of the reader. The case that the gators are investigating in the book is unpredictable and keeps the reader engaged. This is a good book for any classroom or public library and a good choice for anyone wanting to get into graphic novels.
Thank you to First Second Books, First Second Books and NetGalley for providing me with a free electronic copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Mango and Brash return in the seventh installment of John Patrick Green’s Investigators series and once again, they do not disappoint! This pun-filled graphic novel features the duo on the case of the mysterious disappearance of a cruise ship and all its passengers--except for the ship’s captain. Mango and Brash start off with an investigation of the cruise line’s new owner Bill N. Dollaz and discover his plan to launch yet another cruise ship full of passengers. The duo is determined to prevent this ship from disappearing, too, and head to sea to uncover the truth. Fans of the series will love following Mango and Brash as they bring the mystery to a satisfying conclusion with lots of laughs along the way.
We really liked this installment of InvestiGators! Green gets early elementary humor and does a great job of it. The dialogue is great and the story captures their attention. They enjoy the mysteries and I appreciate how many vocab words are woven in from Mango's confusion. The boys now know what Ominous and Omnibus means.
My son read it in one sitting and immediately offered to read it to his little brother because he liked it so much. This is a phenomenal graphic novel and we will continue to pick up anything Green writes.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book.
Investigators: All Tide Up is the latest instalment in the Investigators universe and, as always, it did not disappoint! Both my 4 and almost-9 year olds absolutely love the antics, puns and humour. These books keep parents entertained too! This can be read as a standalone if you wish, but the series does have some world building - and the series is fantastic so I'd highly recommend them all.
Thank you to First Second Books and Netgalley for this ARC - my almost-9 was absolutely thrilled to get this as an advanced copy!
I received this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
My daughter said she will never not enjoy anything written by John Patrick Green, as she loved The Kitten Construction Company and all of the InvestiGators series. Who wouldn't love a pair of quirky alligator agents that tackles tough cases. She loves the series for its witty dialogue, amusing art and playful storytelling.
This book was no exception, ahoy for some sea time fun with your favourite detectives.
This is the seventh book in one of my seven-year-old son’s most favorite book series (The InvestiGators, which we both highly recommend to those who like fun graphic novels 😁). Like the previous six books, it was full of talking animals, investigating, adventures, and silliness. We love Mango and Brash, and this book about a missing cruise ship and a ghost pirate named Willy Nilly is a lot of fun! My son and I read this one together and agree that it wasn’t our top favorite InvestiGators book, but we still enjoyed it. We give it four Jolly Rogers. 🏴☠️🏴☠️🏴☠️🏴☠️
I enjoyed this series and will continue to read the books and any upcoming to my son. However compared to the other books this one was a little lackluster and almost boring. I couldn’t keep my son’s attention with this one. I was say perhaps midway through is when things started to get better and he wanted to know what happened next but he wasn’t as impressed. Normally we love all the cheesy jokes and play on words but this one was almost too much like they were trying to hard to make puns. Again still good and still recommend just not my favorite out of the series.
I reviewed this book 5 stars is because Mango is super funny in each book.I like how the end goes like because mango pushed Willy Nilly,Bill N. Dollarz and Brash down the fire pool but it turns out that the fire pool is just a water slide.Willy Nilly turns out to be Captain DeSoto. I like the part where Björn and Seven were friends again.I think that the most useful part is where the actual Willy Nilly said that the real treasure was the friends you made along the way .I also like the part when Mango and Brash was pretending to be pirates.
This 7th installment of the InvestiGators series does not disappoint. Mango and Brash are back again in a pun-filled adventure with jokes for all levels to enjoy. The prove-you-are-a-pirate riddle test was the highlight of the story for me, but the whole graphic novel was fast paced and extremely fun. Fans of the series will be very happy with this book and new readers will surely enjoy it too. I plan to recommend it widely to Elementary students.
Another fun InvestiGators adventure! We love snuggling up and reading these as a family, and I’m already excited to discover what Mango and Brash get up to on their next adventure. This instalment has a classic Scooby-Doo ‘villain’ which is sure to appeal to parents, while every page is stuffed with puns which will have you laughing and groaning in equal measure. A great series for sharing during story time, and a firm family favourite in our house.
i did realize this was book 7 from this series. i got it from my local library leaning program. i am of the kid era of loving comic books ... so fun. this came out September 26, 2023. children's animal comics & graphic novels. children's mystery, detective & spy. children's humorous comics & graphic novels. part of the series "InvestiGators" series. so cute. i enjoy the fun. will read more soon. not sure if others are available on this site or whatnot? will see.
My 9-year-old LOVES InvestiGators books, and he asked me to read this one with him. He couldn't keep from giving away spoilers as we read because he has read the book so many times and was so excited as we reached certain scenes. We laughed so much together and loved doing the pirate voices toward the end. It's a really witty, fun book with a surprisingly challenging vocabulary.
I'm sure we'll read more from this series together in the future.
First one in the series I've read and it's unbelievable how much this book is just littered with puns. I mean the title I guess alludes to this, but literally every other line is trying to be punny. Beyond annoying, confusing to read and I question how much the intended audience would even pick up on let alone understand. I won't be picking up another one of these anytime soon.
