Shinpei is running out of time, and he must reunite with everyone to prevent Shide from carrying out his destructive plan! The conclusion to the epic summer mystery is finally here!
The rules keep changing scene to scene, and new powers and abilities pop up 90% through the series. Confusing and lacks grounding in its own world and established rules of engagement.
I grabbed it from the library and wanted to just finish it and check it off my list, but would’ve been pissed if I had paid for it. Frustrating to see cool concepts jumbled and so inconsistently handled. Probably would’ve thought it was confusing and inconsistent in a cool way if I read it in middle school.
This has become one of my all time favorite manga series ever! The plot twists, the story, the characters, the art, just everything was so awesome and entertaining!! The aspect of the shadows and the mysteries surrounding them kept me on the edge of my seat along with all the characters’s journeys throughout this manga! 100% recommend!!
I didn't enjoy the ending. It was hard to gage each character's abilities; they seemed to be as powerful as they needed to be to keep the story moving. It was all very arbitrary which made the stakes feel very low. Read this with my teen daughter and tween son. We tried watching the anime after finishing the manga series, unfortunately the voice acting and sound engineering were very poor quality.
I really loved the ending of this series! Overall I’d say this was a good manga, maybe even great upon a reread (which I plan to do but not right away) but this is a manga that also makes you work somewhat. Given the time travel aspect you have to gather and keep information, this manga doesn’t spoon feed you but it’s not this impossible thing to get behind either. It just takes a little care with reading it. I think this series would be a very re-readable series in that you would just have more background knowledge and a better grasp on the story but knowing how it ends doesn’t take away from the charm of the story in general.
Shinpei and Ushio and the rest of the crew are extremely lovable characters which also kept me invested. I almost wish we could get, like, a slice of life mini series spin off with these characters because I love their antics and interactions so much.
Anyway, if a high action, time traveling, mystery and also scifi type manga sounds good to you I would definitely say it’s worth giving a shot. Right now I don’t feel that this is an all time favorite series but it was solid. It’s also nice that it’s completed and it’s not extremely long, I wish there were more 10-15 volume manga series (these are omnibus editions so there were like 12 or 13 volumes in total) that don’t require thing long running investment in.
I went into this series nearly blind, all I was aware of was that time travel was involved and I love a good time travel story! This was such a fun time and the twists were great too! Definitely worth the read.
This was quite the ride. I really think the series itself starts out so strong and builds up perfectly, it does lull a bit near the end, and something’s that are done I was like “but why?” BUT. The ending is actually so perfect that I was smiling and just pretty satisfied with the time invested in all six volumes. Loved the characters, loved the writing, the art is great. Definitely worth the read.
Wow… what an ending!!! I just hated that most of this volume was taken up by the fight with Shide. Damn! It was like a boss fight in a video game, where he’s almost freakin dead but somehow, he FULLY HEALS HIMSELF!!!! Then you have to fight him ALL OVER AGAIN but you’re damn near dead… SMH!!!! The mangaka really loves his video games-read all his afterwords LOL. Anyway, I love the ending. I love that everybody made it to July 25th. It made me cry happy tears.
Overall thoughts on this series: 4.5/5 stars!!!!
If you’re looking for a good thriller/mystery/horror story, then I highly recommend giving Summertime Rendering a go!!!!! It was great! Definitely kept my interest. May have lost me a little near the end with the almost never ending fight. Oh, and I understand that men love boobs but did we need them in a story like this??! LOL. I loved the characters more than I thought I would. I relate to Shinpei. We have similar personalities. And I adored Ushio. She’s amazing.
So as a series, Summertime Rendering stands out as fresh, cool, and carefully constructed. I was thoroughly impressed by how the story kept me on my toes, while at the same time dropping enough clues and information that nothing felt wholly out of left field, and when working with a mysterious force from the sea floor there's a lot of space for getting creative. I think that the way the story unfolds is a testament to the author's love of video games. With the multiple retries and the final boss being so epic, it's clear that he understood the intricacies of repetitive storytelling. I thought the humanization of Heine and the deity-like existence of Hiruko (who is really just the deep sea being perceived as the god by the people of the island) came through well in the ending. I enjoyed the happy ending the series offered and it was great getting to see everyone alive. It wasn't what I expected but it was great to see.

Perfect ending to keep for years to come Summertime Rendering has so many ups and downs especially as the flight scenes runs for over half of the series lasting longer than the anime episodes and waiting an age for the English translation to reach the bookshelves.
I was more on the edge of my seat for Master Nagumo she is my favourite character to follow her back story between her friendships and her connection with her brother throughout the book is the most interesting I wish there was more to her story in the manga.
I admit I did get a little bit confused rereading the book to understand the time travelling plot between Shinpei, Ushio and Shide as it does get complicated to follow I got lost in the plot trying to work out everything.
After all of the waiting it is well worth the wait I highly recommend Summertime Rendering to any mystery lover fan who loves time travelling. This series reminds me a bit like Steins Gate only with more gorey moments. I give this series a eight out of ten.
So, writing a review of the series here, not just vol 6 - too much fan service but amazing storyline. The random nudes, totally unnecessary. I wish I could add this to my library collection because the plot line is legit, but the random T&A is a dealbreaker. The mythology, time-looping, and strategy that goes into the plot is awesome, and why I rated all the books 3 instead of lower. I am disappointed about the inclusion of the fan service though 🤷🏻♂️
The ending wasn't the strongest part of the series, but it was satisfying.
Maybe the superpowers of all characters got a bit out of hand at the end. It was a bit less clever and more supernatural than before. Also, the weren't any further unexpected plot twist unlike other volumes.
All of this doesn't mean that this volume would be bad in any kind of way. It's still a lot of fun to read and I do recommend the series as a whole, as it was a very enjoyable journey.
Getting very good now. Some very smart turns in plot and action. I'm so excited to see all this crazy plot. I was almost certain they wouldn't pull it off.
So fun!
I'm VERY happy to have read this. Any murder mystery that involves gods, shadow monsters, time-loops has got my seal of approval. :)
Could have done with less fanservice and uncomfortable (to me, not within the text. The text is actually supportive) foster sibling relationships, but the art is pretty good, the plot was engaging enough that I wanted to know how it ended, and there were some twists and fights that were pretty cool.
While I was sad to see the series come to an end I really enjoyed each volume of the manga. Similar to the other volumes the story grabs you and doesn't let go until the very end. Truly an ending I can agree with and with all the puzzle pieces put together I can finally see the bigger picture. If you've made it this far in the manga do it justice and finish the series.
This was a great series from start to finish. The art of course was absolutely stunning and sometimes creepy. It really kept you on your toes and it was hard to put down. Even with all the looping each time it was completely different so there wasn't much overlap. Repetitive story lines can get boring but that was not the case with this series.
I didn’t feel comfortable reviewing each volume as it would be very difficult to avoid spoilers and so much was happening, but what a satisfying conclusion! I loved this shorter series and it’s definitely remaining in my collection as a new favorite.
I love this book series and every book in it, but this is by far my favorite one. I love how we get to see the ending connect to the beginning. I love to reread this series every summer too. I feel like this book series is the perfect depiction of that somber feeling you get in summer.

This is an amazing story! I've always liked the time travel concept and I think it is done quite brilliantly in the story. I love that the reader essentially needs to pay close attention and think when reading to piece up the information together.
The final battle took up a lot of page time and I should have liked it more, but by this point I was reading just to finish it. Not quite sure why it didn't click with me, but I'm pretty sure it was a me issue not an issue with the book.
lol anything time loop is gonna be convoluted. Plenty of successful twists throughout the series made me keep reading. Not mad that I read it, but glad I didn’t buy it.
Shide may be on his own now, but that doesn't mean he's any less deadly. He's determined to take the source of Shin's time loop power, which will make him even more powerful than Heine. Shin has to rally everyone together for one final offensive measure. But first, he has to work out where some allies are after his latest time loop.
It's pretty hard to write a summary of the final volume without some major spoilers, so sorry this one is pretty short! Suffice to say, this has been one wild ride of a series with some really intricate overlapping thanks to Shin's looping ability. This story has a lot of re-readability thanks to the different endings we saw throughout the series that were changed through the efforts of Shin or the Shadows. Readers who are looking for an intense mystery will enjoy every page. Sara's Rating: 10/10 Suitability Level: Grades 10-12
