Having survived certain doom time and again since she has been reborn Kumoko is finally ready to face the dread Earth Dragon Araba and the fight will be intense as it fills the pages of this book with wild action while these strong opponents size each other up and dish out the killing blows. Now with her other minds attacking the spider responsible for Kumoko's existence in the labyrinth (after she noticed it was trying to control her actions mentally) and her greatest rival overcome at last she is free to follow the human's that fled her last volume so she can discover the exit to the labyrinth at last. However the "mama" is not ready to let her little Kumoko go just yet.
With this book being full of plenty of action the biggest stuff besides Kumoko's constant thought processes about her next move is the stats of those ready to fight. Kumoko has been both lucky and smart in her fights up till now but her opponents will not be pushovers in any sense of the word.
The spider has her final confrontation with Araba the earth dragon, and finally makes her way to the surface of the world. This volume covers the latter part of the third light novel, and moves on to the fourth, which I just finished a day or two ago.
The spider's final words to Araba, and her response to seeing the sky and eating a sweet fruit, were just as affecting as they were in the book. Other than that, it's monster battles all day long.
This fantasy world's only game-like skills being battle skills, and that being a troubling thing, seems to have struck Kakashi just as much as it did me. The only sequence featuring humans in this manga volume shows Shun's and Katia's shock when they read the Book of Skills, an in-world reference book.
The battle with the powerful Earth Dragon Arraba is told in this volume of the manga and I enjoyed how well the action is depicted within it's pages. Our protagonist is ever closer to learning the horrible truth of this world and I can't wait to learn it along with her.
I blame the hugely entertaining anime (and my son who has me reading both the manga and light novel) for getting me to dive back into this series. There’s a pivotal conflict (or two) in this volume that really propel the action—very entertaining!
I was quite sad when she defeated Araba. And clearly she is sad as well. For multiple reasons and I understand her frustration. Heartbreaking. The tatters of her blanket as she walked away. And then she's outside and she doesn't have long to celebrate...
Another volume and a moment one has been waiting for finally arrives in this volume. While finishing this volume, this was an action-packed volume with some good moments. I love the art and the style. I enjoyed this volume more than last one, and the series continues to be very engaging!
The first half of the volume is an epic encounter between the spider and the earth dragon (the de facto boss of the dungeon) and our hero makes it outside! Unfortunately, Big Mama follows...
Boss fight followed by boss fight. I actually found myself a tiny bit bored with this volume. Maybe I shouldn't binge read so much? Anywho, still good!
The series continues with the protagonist griding her way through the monsters of the labyrinth and advancing her levels. Not great literature but entertaining enough.
