Inspired by the #1 New York Times bestseller She Persisted by Chelsea Clinton and Alexandra Boiger comes a chapter book series about women who spoke up and rose up against the odds--including Malala Yousafzai!
Growing up as a girl in Pakistan, Malala Yousafzai had to fight every step of the way to get an education. After she was attacked for doing so, Malala took her fight to the world stage, pushing for the right to an education for every girl, everywhere. Her activism earned her a Nobel Peace Prize and inspired girls and women everywhere to stand up for their own rights too.
In this chapter book biography by bestselling and award-winning author Aisha Saeed, readers learn about the amazing life of Malala Yousafzai--and how she persisted.
Complete with an introduction from Chelsea Clinton, black-and-white illustrations throughout, and a list of ways that readers can follow in Malala Yousafzai's footsteps and make a difference!
And don't miss out on the rest of the books in the She Persisted series, featuring so many more women who persisted!
I've seen pictures of Malala, but I didn't know her story at all. My daughter wanted to check this book out at the library, and I ended up finishing it on my own. This is a good elementary level read for her story. She's the youngest person to win the Nobel Peace prize! I look forward to reading the book she actually wrote.
Many of the women in this series are unknown and little known to me before reading the book. Malala is not one of them. I feel like I know a lot about her because I read Malala's Magic Pencil with 4th grade every year and we watch a few videos about her. So despite knowing most of the information in the book, I still really enjoyed how Saeed presented it.
This series includes easy chapter books about people, mostly women, breaking through norms. I listened to this book, so I’m not sure what the printed version looks like, but the language was easy to understand and it seems like it would be perfect for middle to upper elementary
According to the syllabus, no review was required for this series book club book. However, this book is a very powerful book for intermediate readers. This book is eye-opening for readers who are interested in learning about educational rights and women's' rights throughout the world.
I listened to an audiobook for this because that was what I could afford. If only there is a written version accessible, I would've felt more to the words😔🫶
This was a great book. It was inspiring and I loved hearing the rest of Malala's story that is not included in I am Malala. Although it was an easy read, I liked it.
This chapter book on Malala Yousafzai is another great addition to the She Persisted series. She is a strong young woman and a great model for young girls (and boys!) because they can more easily identify with someone closer to their own age. I read this book in one sitting and I enjoyed reading about Malala's life before she became so well known for fighting for a woman's right to an education in her country during the Taliban reign. What sets this chapter book apart from the other books in the series is the fact that Malala is still young. So she is still "persisting" and I look forward to hearing more about her successes and contributions to the world.
