Even though her one-shot Koe no Katachi won critical acclaim, it took a longsome law suit to get a magazine to publish it because of its socio-critical theme. Eventually, it was featured in the February edition of Bessatsu Shounen Magazin, where it placed first, and later in the 12th edition of the 2013 Weekly Shounen Magazine.

She has also collaborated with UBUKATA Tow for the manga adaption of his novel Mardock Scramble.

A soft reboot transforms the fantasy series about death and immortality into a junior high school shojo about magical teens getting angsty about the importance of love. Weird. But I can roll with it for now.

What is even the next plot? It just seems to be meandering at this point…

Review up to 132:

Perfect mix of humour, drama, and supernatural elements. Tons of characters and subplots got some movement, but nothing felt rushed. Actually seeing the dynamic of all of Fushi's friends interacting is so warm and fuzzy feeling, then there was the awkwardness of his old friends meeting Mizuha. March considering Kahak a friend and asking why he didn't join them was so cute and so sad. Maybe Fushi will learn that all-important "not all of my friends need to be friends with all of my other friends" lesson. Mizuha herself managed to get from "be my friend" to "let me teach you about love" in one volume, so maybe we'll be getting that teen pregnancy arc sooner rather than later. And Eko is getting homeschooled! Finally, finally, we might find out what the deal with that jar is... (not that I'm holding my breath).

I assume Fushi's lying is going to bite him in the ass at some point. The only times Fushi tells the truth to Mizuha is when he's speaking in wide generalities, every statement he makes to her in specific is calculated to try and manage her mentality. Some of it seems justifiable (letting her believe the murder was a nightmare), some not (lying by omission about Hayase's nature). He has no real regard for her as a person, and as Tonari points out, the whole basis of his association is illegitimate, given that it's rooted in his regret for what happened to Kahak. I mean, yeah, Mizuha is probably crazy, but for once Fushi seems like more of the bad guy here. His desire to please her is leading nowhere good.

On the flipside, she could plausibly be the cure for his big worry. He laments that even after winning the war, his friends will still die and pass on eventually. But isn't that exactly what Mizuha could be for him? Her soul has remained on Earth for almost a thousand years. Her feelings don't seem to have changed much in all that time. Still, I could believe having a baby with him is exactly what would end her curse forever.

Observations:
-Black Hood drinks out of a novelty boot-shaped glass at the restaurant
-Bon keeps his high heels even in his janitor uniform
-Mizuha clutches her left arm when she's mad at Fushi
-The hikki looks suspiciously like Cam

It’s difficult to trust Mizhua but it’s difficult not to like her. Kahak was a great character but his obsession with Fushi ultimately destroyed him. It’s the problem of being descendants of Hayase. don’t think Mizhua is evil, but I’m expecting her to lose control eventually… We’ll have to wait and see.

So Fushi resurrects his friends in a world that was presumably peaceful, only to run into one of Hayase's descendants who shortly thereafter murdered her mother...

And now the mother is alive and well despite not being Mizuha's actual mother (Izumi is still a ghost).

To avoid too many spoilers, let's say that not everything is as it seems and Fushi has one major lesson left to learn... also Fushi might be a mother now.

This is the first one in the series that I just didn't like as much. Some of the things are just to strange and I don't see how the story will go. I'll still read on.

And we’re back on form with something intriguing happening and I’m fully back on board with the series after everything that happened in this volume! The developments with the Fye and The Beholder are incredibly intriguing! With his time ticking down to him becoming human, I’m gonna guess it confirms Fushi will become the next Beholder??

I also really loved the perspective Tonari provided for this volume. I sometimes feel like Fushi having all his comrades is a little much, many of them feel like set dressing and don’t feel like they’re serving a point anymore except for some jolly japes when we need some levity so it’s nice to see these characters provide something. Bon is an exposition machine at this point so it was nice to see Tonari have some input too and ground Fushi by saying all his comrades will live and die in this world.

This brings me back to how the theme of love seems to be returning to the series, granted, it hasn’t really left, it just feels like it’ll be brought to the fore again. Mizuha finishing the volume promising to teach Fushi about love has been the most uncomfortable cliffhanger I’ve felt from a manga for a really long time. It works so well just because of the build up that goes through this whole volume. Fushi’s lies and wanting to please Mizuha combined with her obsession and coercion has been the perfect recipe for disaster and I truly loved reading it! 😂

I’m loving where the series is going again now. Very excited for volume 15! And congrats for getting a S2 TYE! I’ll have to finish season 1 at some point! 🥳🎉

Fushi and his resurrected friends are settling in to their new life at Yuki's house. All seems peaceful.

But something is already brewing, and the incident with Mizuha's mother is a clear warning sign.

Are the Nokker's really gone? Or have they just evolved, like Fushi himself?

description

This volume was kind of boring for my tastes.

There are a lot of charming elements to all of Fushi's ancient friends attempting to settle in to a modern life, but all in all, much of it felt like filler.

It's clear that Oima is diving into Fushi's education in the concept of love, and this volume spent time setting that up. We have to watch Mizuha moon over Fushi a lot, and I just found this very dull.

I also cannot quite decide whether or not I like Mizuha. At times she's very endearing, but at other times she seems to be channeling some of those creepy Hayase vibes, so I'm torn.

I do love Yuki, though. He's extremely irritating, but somehow also lovable.

And I do think Fushi's finally learning about love is an interesting concept.

Cinco estrellas. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

*Respira* FUSHI Y TONARI CON UNIFORME DE SECUNDARIA ES LO MAS BELLO DEL MUNDO.

Love is in the air?

Picking up from the end of the last volume Mizuha is on the run realizing even if she can't remember doing it she stabbed her over bearing mother with a knife. Thankfully for her Fushi is not to judge a person even covered with blood as he helps her in that special naïve way he does. However things are not what they seem as Fushi, who was no longer able to communicate with the man in black, finally finds him again and learns learns some hard truths about what happened to Mizuha's mother as well as other now seemingly immortal beings that are starting to show up. Will love be the key to Fushi's future evolutions and will Fushi finally realize he has always had love for those he wishes to protect? Only time will tell as the story continues to evolve itself. :)

I like this new arc in today's time. Fushi will have a new purpose, to understand what love is. The knockers have become smaller and more cunning. The family atmosphere created in Yuki's mansion is hilarious. The gags between the school desks are funny. Tonari wants to protect Fushi from Mizuha and seems to be a bit jealous of their relationship.
