In some ways this was a nice celebration of Parasyte, with some very nice callbacks to the original series (a story about Shinichi's father, a short interlude of Reiko's child & Shinichi talking, a 'what if' story if a fujoshi had been the real cause of the school massacre) as well as some other intriguing parasites inhabiting their hosts only partially.

Some were just....eh tho, or felt too rushed. Surprisingly while I liked the idea of Kaori Yuki's story (case 5), the execution felt messy. Mikimaki's story (Case 11) was weeiiirrrddd. it's one of the fetish stories that are uniquely Japanese (in that, you wouldn't see a Western mainatream comic randomly explore it).

Overall it was fun to go back into the universe with some manga-ka to investigate further. Definitely something only fans will enjoy - if you pick this up before reading the original series you'll be rather lost as it barely covers the basics of the world.

As with any anthology championing a specific franchise or work, you're bound to have dips in quality and stories - what's surprising about this one is that, for all of the reverence by each artist, the resulting stories are actually quite engaging. The standalone ones I find typically work the best, though not always.

The biggest strength of this anthology, I find, is the organization of each one - it ends, suitably, on a moment of reflection - one that can easily be channelled into the work's themes and its reception since being finished.

It was good but I found some of the stories in here were a bit too jumpy, I feel maybe with the restriction on pages they felt they needed to jump from one part to something completely different in the same story without that smooth transition of letting us know what's happening

Although not quite as interesting as its shounen counterpart, there's still a lot to enjoy here, especially the stories that take a look at some of the side characters.

Overall I'm glad I finally read this. As you'd expect from a short story collection, I didn't care at all for some of the stories, others were just okay, and there were a few that really stood out.
My favorite was Case 8 The Telepathist and the Parasite. Wish I could read a whole volume about it.
Case 5 The God of Never Never caught my attention as well.
And I enjoyed seeing Shinichi, Migi, and other characters from the actual series, even if a lot of the time it was just them doing goofy stuff.

I read this for a recent episode of The Comics Alternative's monthly manga series, one devoted to horror. I am not familiar with the original Parasyte, so I felt that I was missing out on many of the references and significances in this anthology. Still, it's an enjoyable exercise, and it's a great way of being introduced to mangaka whom I wasn't aware of before.

The tone of the manga is inconsistent and overall unappealing as a result. Although some authors had truly heartfelt and intricate stories, other's were flaky, bland, and simply ugly to look at. Balancing an anthology piece is a tough job, and this manga collection just cannot do justice to its source material because it lacks quality control.

Let me begin by saying that I came to this anthology by way of my love for darker manga, not because I was a fan of "Parasyte" specifically. This is a collection of short stories from 15 well-known manga artists, each of them working within the "Parasyte" science fiction, horror universe created by Hitoshi Iwaaki which ran from 1988 to 1995. Each artist's information is given at the end of the story with a list of a few of their series and a statement about how they felt being invited to this anthology and about the story they created for it. Most are very self-effacing in their brief statements, all are fans of "Parasyte."

The stories are primarily creepy but few are outright horror, many romantic or comedic undertones. You can see small differences in the style of the drawing though to the reader unfamiliar with manga it may all look the same. Male and female lead characters seemed evenly represented and equally believable or not. Some of the stories looked at new characters while others played with original characters in new ways. Only one of the stories was disappointing and I won't embarrass the artist by singling them out.

It satisfied my darker manga interests without being overly sexual or belittling in any way toward any type of character. There some playful teasing about some of the genres however but I'm used to that in darker manga.
