Your Name is one of my favorite stories and, I made this video showcasing my complete volumes of the manga adaptation on YouTube.
If you enjoyed my content, consider subscribing to my channel.

This volume added a few original stories that tied in to the movie and fleshed out two key supporting characters. First off, Yotsuha, she actually experienced the "dreaming" after drinking her own kuchikamisake, which made her more accepting when her sister had her own episodes. Although, she doesn't exactly know that Mitsuha was exchanging bodies with Taki.

The second character that got some redemption was Mitsuha and Yotsuha's father. He was clearly a bastard here though, but it was everything as his wife, the girls' mother foresaw. It's implied that she foresaw it, but it made sense because it's a family trait after all.

Everything had to happen in order to save everyone in the town. It tied everything together, and this made this series a worthy addition to the mythos.

I actually kind of liked reading Mitsuha's father's perspective. Since in the main story he just seemed like a major ass, but it was interesting seeing why he is the way he is.

4/5

Reached the final conclusion of this mini series.
NGL, I had troubles getting into this second volume, even if I soon realized this was going to be the most important book of the whole series.

In this one there's the story of how everything started, of how people met and how people decided to live together, and especially how people started to act the way they now do.

An amazing conclusion to this very touching series!

I thought these volumes were decent supplementary content for the movie, but nothing really beyond that, especially the first volume. The first volume felt like it was just filler content or a couple of scenes cut out from the original script due to time constraints. It didn't feel like an expansion of the story. However, I did enjoy this second volume of the story and thought it did a good job expanding on Toshiki Miyamizu's character. It felt like the movie glossed over Mitsuha's relationship with her father, so it was nice seeing it being explored. I also appreciate the backstory behind Futsuba and Toshiki's love story, which I'm always a sucker for. But as a whole (including both volumes), I felt like there wasn't enough original content as I would have liked.

This volume was so much better than the first! I loved learning about the religious lore of the town, the family history including the backstory of Mitshua’s parents, and the inner monologue of her hard-shelled father. His character makes so much more sense now and it was honestly heartbreaking to read. This was very good. I wish I could say the same about the first one.

Just like the first volume of "Another Side: Earthbound". Not as good as the first 3 volumes, but a good way to read about the perspectives, that never were in the movie.

"There is no such thing as a coincidence in this world. The only thing... ...is Hitsuzen!"

Why start with a quote from xxxHolics? Besides being one of my favorite series I realized it is what I was thinking about as I read the 2nd and final volume of your name. Another Side:Earthbound.

In my review I was thinking maybe they would do more with the Tokyo side of the story but considering most of the action happened in Itomori I wasn't sure how it would turn out. Instead we get a series of stories involving Yotsuha at first and what I found to be an entirely sad but important connection tying together the fate of so many souls to save the village from extinction. If you love the original series you will definitely want to read this volume at least as we see Futaba and Toshiki meet for the first time and follow their destinies.

How can you possibly not want more your name? It is one of my all time favorites. So why not drop 5-stars? Well, because as good as it is, it wasn't perfect and only gives more background story. While it was interesting and fun to see more of Yotsuha. We get to see the relationship of Futaba and Toshiki. All background story for the story of Mitsuha and Taki that you probably already know and love if you're here.

Verdict: While it doesn't add a lot of depth to anything you already know, it is still worth a look if you are a fan of your name.

The second volume of "Another Side: Earthbound" is a deep dive into Mitsuha's family. I didn't enjoy it nearly as much as the first volume, but it did give some pretty interesting backstory into Mitsuha's parent's backstory.

The first section of this novel follows Mitsuha's younger sister, Yotsuha, as she learns more about the traditions of her family's shrine. I think that Yotsuha is such an amusing character, so it was fun to explore her more. There is some brief interactions with some returning characters, which is cool, but nothing too shocking was revealed.

The second segment of the manga followed Mitsuha's father, Toshiki, and the backstory of how he fell in love with Mitsuha's mother, Futaba, along with how he ended up as a grouchy mayor that nobody really likes. I think that this section was enlightening, but it wasn't the most exciting read. My favorite part was when Futaba told Mitsuha her name. I thought it was such a cute moment and it tied into the namesake of the series, which I thought was great.

Overall, this book wasn't the most enjoyable, but it does give a bunch of backstory on Mitsuha's family and filled in some of the blanks surrounding the magical aspects of the series. If one was a huge fan of "Your Name" I'm sure that this installment would be literary gold. I'm not addicted to the series, so this book was mostly just filler content for me. The series was still a fun read, and I am glad that I have added "Your Name" to my beginner's list of manga.

Vol. 1 ★★★☆☆
Vol. 2 ★★★★★ (4.5)

Fills in some of the story and character gaps from the movie. This volume focused on Mitsuha's younger sister Yotsuha as well as their father. Yotsuha's chapters were nice, but it was the father's chapters that really captivated me. In the movie he's very strict and kind of an asshole, and while he still is that, this manga fills in his backstory and gives shape to his grief upon losing his wife and family. But interestingly, it also reveals that his role in your name. was just as fated and necessary as Mitsuha's and Taki's. As his wife says, "Everything in the world ends up where it should be." There's also a closer look at the lore and history of the Miyamizu shrine that I quite appreciated. Really enjoyed this volume! 4.5 stars

It was nice seeing all the events unfold while Taki was in Mitsuha's body, which added an interesting layer, though I am not sure if I completely liked it—or Yotsuha's perspective, for that matter. However, the most compelling part for me was Mitsuha's father's perspective in Volume 2. The backstory of Itomori was revealed, and it suddenly made sense how Mitsuha managed to convince her father at the end of the movie. This fills in the gaps for the things we heard about but did not get to see in the main volumes. I would still recommend it for anyone who wants to dive deeper into the world of Your Name.

Your Name 02 (Her POV)
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I really enjoyed the backstory of the parents we don't get much in the movie. It the manga there is more information & you understand her father a little more.
On to the last one ♡

That was such an incredibly breathtaking story following the Miyamizu family. It really added depth to Mitsuha’s dad and context to his character as shown in the film. I really enjoyed reading and learning more about the characters that made up the Miyamizu family tree as well and it was refreshing catching the story of Mitsuha’s parents.

For obsessed and loyal fans of the film, I cannot recommend the Earthbound volumes enough.

Cute surprised that it's over? but maybe this is just telling the first part or only half? Not sure. I will say that it was really interesting to get the father's back story. I think the movie only ever touched upon it. Never gave as much detail as this. Really kinda explains why he was so rough on Mitsuha and so against the shrine. Imagine tho what it would have been like if he didn't react the way he did when their mom died.

I was underwhelmed by Volume 1 of Another Side:Earthbound, but found Volume 2 vastly superior. It's a more cohesive work, the story of the mayor is quite interesting and touching, and the ending has an almost Syamalan-esque way of tying things together. If you're a fan of the brilliant movie then this is well worth checking out.

Absolutely amazing. I prefer vol.2 to vol.1 actually. Instead of being kinda light in nature, like the first volume of this series, volume 2 offers a much more in-depth look at the ritual and its history, as well as the story between Mitsuha's mom and dad, and the full moment when Mitsuha confronts her father before the evacuation. Absolutely worthwhile getting.

The manga, novel, and movie of the original storyline caused me to believe that Mitsuha's father was a prideful and stubborn man who chose his dreams over family. This is my second time reading this book, and it will always break my heart to know that the distance between Mitsuha and her father was because of the death of her mother. 😭

The stories in this volume offer some clarity about the Miyamizu family, including the relationships between the different family members. Those who saw the movie may appreciate the father's perspective regarding Itomori and his relationships with the Miyamizu women.

This was even better than the first volume of your name. Another Side: Earthbound, as we focus more on the Miyamizu family.

It was also a bit mind-blowing to discover about Yotsuha's side of the story! Very cool!

So it turns out i bought the wrong sequel and i have read these mangas in a weird order! as i have seen the film, i’m not too bothered, and i loved seeing the side characters have more of a focus in the story. it really ties together the whole concept of destiny and fate as a whole.
