The journey of survival continues in book two of the bestselling Lone Survivor saga…
Four months ago, an EMP brought the power grid down and crippled the country, leaving ferry pilot, Landon Gray and off-the-grid teen, Beth ‘Bluebird’ Sullivan alone on a North Carolina mountain, scrambling to survive. The unlikely duo escaped death, but are far from safe.
With no power, no internet, no phones, no transportation, and over a thousand miles from his home in Castine, Maine, they set off on a perilous journey using the Appalachian Trail. But as chaos forces the worst of society into their path, they must fight to survive.
All That Survives is book two of Lone Survivor, a post-apocalyptic EMP thriller series following a group of survivors as they fight to stay alive after an EMP destroys the nation's power supply.

This is really a 2.5 for me and I bumped it up because there were not a ton of errors and I think it is no mean feat to write and publish a book. Beth and Landon meet up with not just a brutal homicidal biker group but also a crazy and homicidal group of women? They are accompanied by a perfectly good and well trained dog that they leave behind and then don't utilize well when they get him back? After escaping with their lives several times and being robbed by a non-violent pair of hikers, they readily team up with an unknown guy just because he is alone? I'm not sure that pair deserves to make it to Maine. The town in Maine story is a little more interesting and at least about surviving this kind of disaster. There seems to be a lot of very brutal violence more because it is shocking than because it really adds to the story. Not sure about continuing with book 3.
As many of these type books I’ve read, this one rank high. They are a bit short but I liked the two I’ve read and will go see what else’s he had to offer. Ordered some toilet paper tablets, thanks for that tip!
(Review for both All That Remains and All That Survives) Got to say, after having read six or so books in the EMPpocalypse subgenre of apocalyptic fiction, I'm thinking it's just not for me. They're all well and good for showcasing survivalist skills, but they lack all the fun and imagination that goes into your basic nuclear or even zombie apocalypse story. It's a subgenre that's not fantastical enough to work as a fantasy and is often too detached from actual cities that would feel the brunt of an EMP apocalypse to feel like more than bland wilderness survival fiction with a coat of paint.
That being said, if you’re already sold on the subgenre this series will probably be up your alley. It’s nothing mind-blowing, but it scratched my post-apocalyptic itch well enough and can be read very quickly. Jack Hunt seems to have written a few horror novels too, so maybe those would be more my thing.
This is a series detailing the aftermath of an EMP that knocks out the power and disables engines and machines. I liked the contrast of the main characters - a rural survivalist-raised young woman, her dog, and a crashed male pilot. The series is a fairly "nice" view of a post-apocalyptic dystopia, with genuine friendship, character progression, mostly well-thought out details. There are a few glaring errors that threw me out of the story a little, and the dialogue is sometimes stilted or artificial. Overall, if you are a fan of PA, you'll enjoy the series. It's not one of the greats but it is enjoyable.
Somehow, this has mutated from an EMP thriller to a game of cat and mouse between unbelievable antagonists whose motivations are downright eye-roll inducing. No longer does it even feel like society is being THAT much affected by the EMP. Granted, this is merely a tiny "corner" of society, but considering the events, it honestly doesn't feel like things are too harrowing. It's not the kind of journey that I set out for.
Jack Hunt is usually great at this stuff, but for some odd reason, it's not showing as brightly here. His rather bizarre fixation on time-jumping to pass the story along makes it quite difficult to connect with anyone, or even suspend disbelief about certain moments. I'm not buying what's happening, not feeling as invested as I'd like to be, and not feeling the typical pull to continue with the series.
I'm a fan of Jack Hunt, truly, but not even my fandom has me inspired enough to trudge through the next entry. Even the synopsis itself doesn't summon me. Sadly, I consider this series (which is fortunately a small one) a loss and am jumping ship. It happens.
This is definitely not a stand-alone novel. You really need to read the first book in the series to understand this one. And to make it worse, this story ends in a cliffhanger, making it necessary to continue the series to learn what happens to these characters.
Miles Meili delivers a consistent, competent performance, but incomplete stories frustrate and annoy me.
NOTE: I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
Can't decide whether to like this one or not, Landon is an absolute idiot, not worth saving in my mind, bitches constantly and has no appreciation for what Beth has done for him. Beth on the other hand, should have just sent him on his way as soon as the casts came off. Sara would be better off with Jake, hopefully Landon dies of dysentery along the trail.
Escape one crisis, then race away searching for safety. It was like Groundhogs Day. Every time they thought they were in a better situation, that the new person they had met was someone they could trust. Boom, it would blow up in their faces. Would they ever reach a more secure location?
They author presents a plausible story about apocalyptic times. I like the character development and the exciting ride of unforeseen problems and lithe and death struggles with people turned bad. I like his knowledge of survival techniques, camping and hiking. Ooh to book 3! ;)
Enjoy his series This one was about Landon -his small plane crashed near Beth and her dad's cottage in the woods. Beth rescues Landon, but sadly her dad as well as Landon's daughter dies. Meanwhile, in Maine, his wife Sara and son Max are trying to survive. Series of 4 and story is told well throughout the four.

While I did enjoy reading this book I found it somewhat confusing. The author jumped from action on the trail with Beth and Landon to the mystery in Maine. Maybe this was needed for the story line but if you weren't a continuous reader it seamed to cause problems following the srory, at least for me until I was able to have the time to keep with the book.
Not sure where the story is going. They didn’t get very far in this book. I think they picked up a crazy guy at the end. Still interested in seeing what happens, so I will read the next book.
Rip-roaring adventure series. Landon is such a little girl, she should have sent him on his way, but thats just my opinion. If that had happened, he would have gotten himself killed early on, so guess its for the best. Rude people on the trail. A fun, fast read.
This series was a light and entertaining story. Some characters I liked and some I didn’t care about at all right from the beginning like Sara for instances. The end was rushed and not really satisfying. The why and how the EMP happened, no one knows and the author doesn’t care.
This series is so good, I can't put it down, after reading the 1st one I was so hooked I couldn't wait to start this one and it definitely did not disappoint...now I'm done with this review so I can go read the next book!!!
After an EMP pulse knocks out everything electronic, two people decide to hike from North Carolina to Maine on the Appalachian Trail. They have many difficulties and have to fight for their lives multiple times.
This book is the second in the post apocalyptic series by Jack Hunt. I have thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was a page turner for sure. It really gets you thinking about what if? I am about to get the third book. I hope my fingernails can survive it.
