Sweet Valley High, the backbone of the collection, was made into a television series, which led to several spin-offs, including The Unicorn Club and Sweet Valley University. So Liz and Jess are still interning at Sweet Valley News over the Summer, while Liz's boyfriend Jeffrey is a camp counselor out of town. Meanwhile, some hunky, mysterious, brooding boy named Eric Hankman just started working at the coffee shop downstairs. Lo and behold, he's a writer, just like Liz, except he writes LOVE POETRY. How can Liz resist??

Except Jessica and her new snobby ass friend Darcy from the internship suspect Eric to be a murderer on the run from Ohio, where Eric says he just moved from. After all, Eric seems sketchy AF when asked about his past, and dodges all inquiries into his life before Sweet Valley.

Is Eric a dangerous murderer who kills all his girlfriends, or just a hunky, misunderstood dude who writes syrupy sweet love poems for Liz? I wont divulge. But LIZ, GIRL. Falling for some hot sensitive dude and not mentioning to him that she has a boyfriend?? She totally wanted to bone him too. I bet you she never tells Jeffrey what happened because all the shenanigans in the Super Thrillers and Super Editions are never mentioned in the regular series! So I'm sure she's just gonna keep this little tryst to herself. Scandalous!! This book shoulda been called Elizabeth's Two Boy Summer 🤣🤣🔥🔥

3 out of 5 emotional and earnest AF poems written for Liz that makes her cry. Written by a murderer, perhaps?? But regardless, she will survive and can run back into the arms of her other boyfriend Jeffrey who--AHEM!!--does NOT write her sappy love poetry...but should! 🤣🙌🏼💖

Elizabeth is a serial cheater in all the super editions/thrillers, like truly the worst.

I counted and the mention of anything "thrilling" doesn't start until page 115 of 213. The entire first half of the book is about the girls still working at the news office, meeting a new girl Darcy who instantly hates Liz, and the mysterious boy Elizabeth is interested in at the coffee shop.

Not very thrilling at all.

Title: On the Run
Series: Sweet Valley High Super Thrillers #2
Author: Francine Pascal // Kate William
Overall Rating: 3.7 stars

This book actually wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be.

I expected it to follow the same cheesy lines as SVH but it doesn't, this book sets it's own tone and narrative as it follows the twins through their summer of working at the newspaper. I'm assuming that this takes place later in the Sweet Valley series, as Elizabeth and Todd aren't together, he isn't even mentioned and she is completely smitten over this Eric guy. Or Michael...

Basically there is a killer on the loose, and the twins believe that he is in Sweet Valley and the twins friend Darcy begins to hint that it might be Eric, who has his own secrets to hide. When Jessica begins to uncover this, she tries to save Liz before it's too late.

Overall, this was a refreshing break from the cliche and cheesy storylines happening in the main series. I kind of hope Michael//Eric will be brought back, even though I know he won't be. He had a lot of potential.

I am really enjoying reading Sweet Valley High books. I am not sure that any of them will be five-star books, just because I am way older than the target audience, but they are still a lot of fun. Jessica is worst, but the Sweet Valley books would not be half as fun without her.

2.5 stars, but I'm rounding up because Elizabeth realizes maybe Jeffrey French ISN'T...well, anything interesting or special compared to new boy Eric, and I like Liz being all lusty. It's a nice change of pace. As an added bonus, she isn't disgustingly sweet or friendly to the new girl at the paper when she realizes Darcy is a bitch either (Jessica, of course-- with her usual discernment if a toddler, thinks bitch Darcy is cool). The plotline about a murderer in Ohio and a local mobster trial is incredulous and stupid and full of holes, but its a Sweet Valley Thriller, so if you just go in expecting it to be stupid, its a fun read.

"We’re all human beings. And as long as we believe in right and wrong, we’re all fighting the same fight."

These books are saving my book life right now. Lately, I’ve been reading a lot of nauseating books but these are bringing me out of that funk. I’ve become obsessed.

They put a lot more thought into these thrillers than I ever imagined and they are actually entertaining. I can’t wait to read more of these.

Liz and Jessica are interns at the newspaper. Jessica befriends a fellow intern, Darcy who takes a instant dislike for Liz. Meanwhile Liz befriends a young man named Eric, who works at the coffee shop in the building. Eric is hiding something. Jessica and Darcy think he could be a danger to Liz. Will they discover the truth before it is too late?

This was utterly ridiculous but I kind of needed the Wakefields and their batshit crazy nonsense this week. One of my favorite bits? The wanted posters that described a murderer as “sensitive” and “mysterious”. 😆

Somehow less bonkers than the previous one, but still ridiculous. Disappointed that the new girl wasn’t as involved as I thought she was.

Very good. Like the earlier books much better than most of the ones after SVH 94. Was unrealistic how one minute Liz is smitten with Eric (real name, Michael) who moves away, then in the very next book, there's no reference to her still trying to get over him or anything, but still really good. The twins are working at Sweet Valley News, and conveniently there are a series of crimes for them to solve. In the previous book, there was a murder! After 25 years of no murders, the twins work at SVN for the Summer and suddenly, an obsessive psycho kills Steven's brother's fiance! Best set of books in the series.

The Godfather meets It's a Wonderful Life as Liz and Jess get tangled up with a witness in a gangster trial who's come to Sweet Valley to hide. The climatic scene features the good people of Sweet Valley flooding into the witness' house and disarming two mean mobsters. "As long as there aer good people in the world...then my family will be safe." Gosh!
