El nu e la fel de șmecher as we are...

Recenzia aici: https://bit.ly/3EE9sAp.

It is Christmas Eve young Jackson, who loves Christmas, has decided that he needs to ask Santa some questions, like who is he really and how did he become Father Christmas? He hatches a plan to pretend not to be bothered about Christmas and then once his parents and twin sisters are asleep he will sit and wait for Santa to appear.

After an initial shock at finding a child out of bed, Santa decides that he can answer Jackson’s questions but warns him it might not be what he is expecting.

The Night I Met Father Christmas is a fun festive read for middle-graders that has taken Charles Dickens ‘A Christmas Carol’ and given it a child-friendly makeover. The story has been beautifully crafted, including some fabulous artwork throughout to enchant the reader and to embrace the story of Santa’s origins.

Within this magical story, you will find snow, reindeer, presents, and of course elves, including one mean elf called Torvil who has to learn about the true meaning of Christmas.

The book was really beautiful. It teaches children about caring and being kind. It also shows them who Father Christmas is and what he stands for. I love a festive read and this one hit all the right spots to put me in the holiday spirit. I’ve never read Ben Miller’s books before but he is certainly a gifted writer who can get into the mind of a child.

Jackson sees Father Christmas come down the chimney, but he looks small like an elf. He hurts his ankle so Jackson helps him deliver the rest of the presents around the world on this magical journey.

I was pleasantly surprised by how cute this book was. And even if it combined two extra known stories - Santa origins and A Christmas Carol - it somehow succeeded in being fresh and entertaining. The writing flows quite beautifully and is super easy to go through the book. I’ve listened to the audio version but I’ve seen some illustrations from the book and those are really nice too.
Definitely a good gift for young readers in your life.

"If someone had stopped him in the street a couple of days before and told him that a giant snowman was about to time-travel him forward an entire millennium, he would have thought they were in need of therapy. But somehow, coming as it did after an  adventure into the past with a red-nosed reindeer, and a midnight journey with a talking tree, it really didn't seem that strange. In fact, it sort of made sense: past, present, future. Now he had the full set."

'The Night I Met Father Christmas' is the definition of adorable. This book was seriously wholesome, from the character arc to the festive story😊

It's Christmas Eve, and Jackson makes a decision that will bring a whole new meaning to the holiday: He's going to meet Father Christmas. So, he stays up later than he ever has, and what drops down from his chimney but an elf! Jackson has many questions, but he has to wait. The elf needs his help, he twisted his ankle from the fall.

This is how, minutes later, Jackson finds himself flying through the sky in a magical sleigh pulled by reindeers. As he helps the elf deliver the presents, he tells Jackson the story of Santa Claus. You see, Santa was originally an elf named Torvil, who was very selfish and grouchy. But, he explains how one Christmas, midnight visits from three magical beings changed him forever...

Sound familiar? Ben Miller's lovable story is a retelling of Charles Dickens' classic 'A Christmas Carol' mixed with the story about how Father Christmas came to be.

This book is suitable for children to understand while also being captivating enough for any age to enjoy, I'd recommend it to anyone for the holidays 😊

I'm giving this book 5🌟 for how cute it was, it was such an easygoing and enjoyable read. I'll definitely read more of Miller's books in the future!

4.5/5

For some reason this year, I'm in the mood to read a lot more middle-grade books. I bought this in the Blackwell's Black Friday sale thinking it would be a quick, cute read since it was only £3.99, and it was so much more! A disclaimer, though, that I have since learned Ben Miller signed the 'standing with JK' letter and I'm kind of disappointed that I won't be buying more of his work as his writing was great!

This book was essentially another children's retelling of A Christmas Carol, so you basically know the story already! It's a great way to get your kids engaged with the classic (or yourself, you do you). I loved the characters, and the book is filled with amazing illustrations that really capture the essence of the story. It was fun and witty and charming throughout, to the point where I even found myself laughing at it.

Overall, this was enjoyable and something I could imagine reading to my little sisters when they got a bit older!

Read- November 2019 for The Believeathon hosted by Gavin (Read a seasonal book)
- Hi, it's me just popping in to tell you all that this is now one of my favourite books and I already want to read it again. This is a book that I wanted to read last year but never got round to so when I saw it in Waterstones yesterday I decided to just pick it up and I'm so happy I did. I literally read this book in one sitting (which I never do, I don't think I've ever done that) and there was no point that I felt like I wanted to put this book down. I'm for sure going to make everyone in my life read this book next month.

1st Re-Read- December 2019 for The Winter Magical Readathon (Read an urban fantasy)
- I can't believe I've read this book twice in two months. I'm honestly obsessed and I can't wait until I have children so I can force them to read this book and experience the joy that I feel.

2nd Re-Read- April 2020 for the O.W.Ls (Astronomy- Read the majority of this book whilst it's dark at night)
- Rating- 5 Stars I enjoyed this book only slightly less this time around, I think it might have to do with the fact that I listened to the audiobook so I feel like I lost a bit of the magic that I got when reading the physical book. Also yes, I am reading a Christmas book in the middle of April. Literally all I need right now is comfort and Christmas brings me a lot of comfort.

3rd Re-Read- August 2021
- Rating- 4 Stars
I've had a rough time when it comes to reading in the last two months, combined with the fact that I've been in a massive Christmas mood I decided to treat myself to reading a Christmas book and I really really enjoyed myself. I may even pick up another.

4th Re-Read- December 2021
- This is my third year re-reading this book and it never fails to make me happy. This is my last Christmas before I have the twins and I wanted to it to be so amazing but I've really struggled this month. I haven't felt festive at all and my seasonal depression has for sure set in earlier for me this year because of that fact. We've got 5 days until Christmas and I'm really hoping to try and get myself in the Christmas mood over the course of this week.

I usually enjoy middle-grade Christmas books, so I try to read a new one each year. This one was a wonderful origin story for Santa Claus. A perfect Christmas story for any age, really. It was full of quirky detail and subtle humor. Let's be clear, it's definitely a retelling of a A Christmas Carol. So the Scrooge trope makes the story quite predictable. Still, I found it entertaining and a good spin on that holiday classic.

I think this has got to be my favourite version of 'A Christmas Carol.' Well it's more of a child's retelling but it's pretty amazing. It also has a surprise twist in it.

"Lijepo je dobiti poklon. Ali taj dobar osjećaj poslije nekog vremena nestaje, i ti otkriješ da sad želiš nešto drugo. A kad nešto pokloniš... i nikome to ne otkriješ... e, taj dobar osjećaj ostaje s tobom zauvijek. "

I just don't see how this isn't marketed as a re-telling of A Christmas Carol. It's an acceptable enough tale, but it's literally a re-telling of the Dickens story. It has nothing to raise it up further and is fairly anachronistic. The time setting and time passing are slightly muddled and some of the language is too modern. The tale within a tale is the best part but we get little or no sense of the boy Jackson, who is merely a plot device and not a main character as suggested on the back cover.
Overall a disappointing read. Just not up to the standard of the many wonderful children's Christmas books I've read.

No, kako je Djed Božićnjak uopće postao Djed Božićnjak?

Jackson knows all about the flying reindeer, he knows about the elves and the secret North Pole workshop, he knows about the magic that allows Father Christmas to deliver presents around the world in just one night, but there's one thing he doesn't know ...  how did Father Christmas become Father Christmas?
That all changes when, one Christmas Eve, Jackson meets Father Christmas and hears his incredible story.

So begins an enchanting fairy-tale into a magical snowy landscape, where Torvil, a mean-spirited and miserly elf, is about to discover the true meaning of Christmas. This might not have been the story Jackson was expecting but, as Father Christmas tells him, no good story ever is...

Jackson decided that one Christmas Eve he's going to wait up for Father Christmas as he has so many questions to ask him. When the jolly guy in red arrives he is not exactly the person that stories and pictures depict, a little elf, dressed in red with a fat belly is who appears down Jackson's chimney.
What follows is the story of how Father Christmas came about as Jackson has to help him deliver his presents due to an awkward fall down Jackson's chimney Father Christmas has twisted his ankle.
Torvil Christmas tells his story to Jackson on their travels around the world.
The story of a town in the North Pole where an Elf shoe factory has closed down leaving all the elves out of work and Torvils story about how he changed from being a wicked, mean and rich toy shop owner to becoming Father Christmas.
I always try and pick up a new Christmas book to read at this time of year and up to a month ago nothing jumped out. For the past three years I've eagerly awaited Matt Haigs books about Father Christmas and felt there was nothing to touch the trilogy.
So when I saw this book in Waterstones and read the blurb I decided to make this my new Christmas book.
The story centres around Jackson a boy who wants to know how Father Christmas became who he is today and Torvil Christmas a mean elf who eventually sees the error of his ways. The story is like a retell of Dickens A Christmas Carol but for children. Ben Miller takes the classic story and adds a magical twist.

This book was a very delightful light-hearted middle-grade novel that I thoroughly enjoyed. I knew essentially nothing going into this book, other than the fact it was written by a comedian. This ended up being an extremely enjoyable simplified retelling of Charles Dickens' 'A Christmas Carol'.

This was a very fast-paced book and I read it in roughly 24 hours. I was in the mood for a novel like this and this just really worked for me. I think the writing style was engaging and comedic, but there was also a very important and apparent moral behind the story. The characters were fun and well developed for such a short book, and the plot was intricate without being confusing.

I honestly think this book is suitable for all ages, and you can enjoy it at any reading level and age. This was such an easy Christmas read and I want to find a book similar to this that I can enjoy in 2020!

DNF @ PG 133 - This is a beautiful book on the outside, but the entire story is basically A Christmas Story, and that is just not what I was expecting. I feel like the author just took someone else’s story and wrote it into what he was trying to do. I hate that I feel that way, but as soon as I figured out what was going on I just couldn’t enjoy this book. It didn’t seem fun or original at all. Maybe to a kid who doesn’t know a Christmas Carol it would be a good fit. But it really fell flat for me.

This is another great take on a modern day Christmas Carol with a twist and it was brilliant, I read it within a couple of days and I couldn't put it down. This book gives you really great mental images and the illustrations are amazing. This was a magical read as an adult so for any younger readers, I can tell it'll be brilliant for them also. I'm looking forward to reading more books from this author.

I really liked this book but there were parts I didn’t like.
First of all this book is called, “the night I met Father Christmas” but it’s basically a children’s version of “A Christmas carol” which if I’d of known beforehand then I probably wouldn’t have picked it up! Having said this I did think the storyline was good and the way it’s been modified to be appropriate for children was clever. The ending was the best part and fitted really well into the story of Christmas.
I would recommend this book to read with children but just so people know beforehand that it’s similar to “A Christmas Carol”

I adore Christmas. It's my absolute favourite time of the year. No other time of year is as magical as the first few weeks of December when everything sparkles and the air smells like peppermint and roasting nuts.
I love it.
I was sent a copy of The Night I Met Father Christmas a few weeks ago and I've been debating on waiting until December to post my review but I am just too excited to share this amazing story to wait any longer!
The best way I can think of describing this story is to say it is a lighter version of Dickens' A Christmas Carol. It has the same structure and message, but it's an updated version that I think children (and grown-ups) will love!
If you have any children in your life, buy them a copy right now and read it with them in the lead up to December 25th.
It's simply magical. I couldn't keep the smile from my face.
Thank you so much to @simonkidsuk for a free copy of this book.
