Halloween in the Big Easy . . . Does evil really exist?
Michael Quinn and Danni Cafferty are far too familiar with the question. At the death of her father, Danni inherited his house and shop on Royal Street in New Orleans—and much more than she ever anticipated, including a book kept by her family for generations on how to combat the most unusual forces. As Halloween approaches, Quinn is already nervous—he knows what the season can bring. Even as Danni tries to convince him that very good things can happen as well, a man arrives in their kitchen, seeking their very special assistance. Sean DeMille is a lover of decoration and costume—and all things Halloween—until the body of a murdered man shows up in the midst of his backyard ‘cemetery.’ With an axe in his head. Could the infamous Axe-man of New Orleans have found his way back after nearly a century? Or is just the insidious at work, a spirit or demon filtering into an object or a person and creating the mayhem all over again? With the help of their odd team, Danni and Quinn must find the truth behind the strange happenings haunting the city—lest they fall prey to that very strange evil themselves.

“Evil exists and evil lives and evil finds roots in those who have the hearts and souls to encourage and nurture its growth.”
It is Halloween and there are creepy decorations all over the place. But the mutilated body of an old man with an ax in his head is no decoration. It is real. But is there a real flesh and blood murderer lurking around or the old man has fallen victim to sinister forces, untraceable and indestructible?
This is another winner. I just love this author. She writes wonderful storylines and great characters in every one of her books. I highly recommend all her 200 books. Right now I have 30 books in my kindle. Diana Romano.
Another short story. This time Cafferty and Quinn are dealing with the legend of the Axeman of New Orleans. The ending was a bit too quick and left a lot of questions unanswered, especially on the motives of the perpetrators. Seems too easy just to say it's "evil".
Although I didn't enjoy this short story as much as others I've read by Heather Graham's, it was still a good read. There were several typos that distracted me and kept me from diving too deep into the story.
Totally went out of sequence with this book but I understood everything and jumping into this novella without knowing the other story lines worked perfect. You don’t have to have read the others to enjoy this little bit of paranormal horror.
Another entertaining entry in the Cafferty & Quinn series. This time, Danni and Quinn have to help solve a murder reminiscent of an old, unsolved case from the earliest days of the 20th Century: the New Orleans Axe-man.
As usual, there are elements of the occult ... because Danni's shop, The Cheshire Cat, is just the kind of place that attracts such things. The big artifacts in this story are Mr. and Mrs. Devil Demon ... a pair of dressed mannequins who may ore may not be more than they seem to be.
A fun, not-too-long read that lovers of New Orleans history will find charming and disturbing at the same time.
What is good and what is evil? Can the essence of both linger from beyond the grave? These are questions that the shop owners cum paranormal investigators Cafferty and Quinn are desperate to answer when faced with a series of murders in the days leading up to Halloween in historic New Orleans. A killer is mimicking the legendary Axe-man, who started his grisly deeds a century ago, and is leaving a grisly trail of evidence. There are many suspects on the radar, but since the Axe-man was never caught, who is today's killer and how is he following in his/her footsteps?
Can the spirit of the original Axe-man have returned, and who summoned him? Are the vampire "guardians" taken from the scene of the first murder actually inhabited by good or evil spirits? And will Michael and Danni, with the assistance of their friends, stop the murders before the killer escalates on Halloween night?
Having been only recently introduced to this set of Heather Graham's characters, I was pleasantly surprised by how many twists and turns the story took. Graham, as usual, includes a great deal of insider knowledge into the background of her story, painting a vivid picture of all that is New Orleans from a native's point of view. This setting allows the story to develop in a form that seems natural, despite the subject matter, as the readers are drawn in and left to wonder if they should leave the lights on at night in cases the demons hidden within should leap from the electronic page.
I look forward to investigating the rest of this series for myself.
Halloween is fast approaching and business is good at Danni Cafferty's oddities shop in the French Quarter of New Orleans. Things get truly scary, though, when Danni and her boyfriend, private investigator Mike Quinn, get pulled into another investigation revolving around the Axeman, putting Danni in danger once again.
New Orleans is the perfect setting for this paranormal mystery series, especially during Halloween! I love the author's descriptions of the "Big Easy"! It's almost as if you are right there along side Danni, Quinn and crew, trying to catch the killer!
A fun Halloween paranormal novella in the Cafferty & Quinn series. Unfortunately, the book was so full of typos and other mistakes, that, at times, I had to really cringe. Not a bad book, but by no means it's Heather Graham's best.
This novella was a good addition to the Cafferty & Quinn story. It does assume a bit of knowledge about the back story of the pair as it doesn't have a lot of that. It could have used a bit more development as some of the story seemed to be lacking in detail and explanation that made it a bit confusing. Hopefully, a future story will deal with some of the things that were left unexplained.
Michael Quinn and Danni Cafferty are at home when a man comes to them needing their help. A man has been found in his yard with an axe in head reminiscent of the Axeman of New Orleans. In a fight of good versus evil, Danni and Quinn must root out the evil doing these crimes.
Another fun read by Heather Graham. Yes, it is a Halloween story but the last thing I want to read is dystopian novels right now. In this one the spirit of New Orleans mass murderer The Ax-man has returned and is killing again, or is he? Someone surely is, and they are using the Ax man's signature method, an ax to the head! Nice and short an easy read and pretty damn good!
This book began so slowly, I actually put it away three times. I did persevere and get it done. Once it started moving along as I knew a Heather Graham book should it did get rather exciting. The end was worth the drag I think but that needs to be decided by each reader. I found it to be worth reading.
I absolutely love books by Heather Graham. I try and get every book I can get my hands on that I did not read. I think everyone who loves to 're will enjoy her stories.
Another wonderful Cafferty and Quinn. Sweet romance mixed with horror and crime. I love the whole cast of characters, it's like visiting old friends. The story was very well developed for a novella.
Instead of Mardi Gras it is Halloween. I love the history and how they have these stories that relate to the book. It was fast passed and a quick read. Loved all the characters and how they all added to the story.
Quick read. Very interesting Love Heather's books about NOLA. Always interesting and always suspenseful. Usually read the Krewe of Hunter books it enjoyed this just as much.
I really loved this book because you just never knew where it was taking you next. My favorite characters would have to be Danni, Quinn, and Wolf. This author just never disappoints her readers.
Well this book was a little different from all the other ones.z but it was still a good one.I like books that includes animals. If you want a good book for Halloween this is it !!
I love Heather Graham books. They are good, fast, and fun. They wind up to the big moment and then let you down easy. It is always a great way to relax, snuggling my dog in bed, and nursing a cup of tea. Thank you, Heather Graham!
At first, I️ thought this storyline was going to be similar to another of her Halloween stories. I️ was pleased that it was based on a totally different storyline.
Enjoyed the new adventure of Danni and Quinn. However, there are numerous grammatical mistakes and misspellings. Several times the categorised Sean I stead of Quinn.
