June 1293. David, King of England. Philip, King of France. A holy war neither man wants to fight. A militant pope. A treacherous baron. A jealous brother. Love. Honor. Family. Betrayal. Destiny. Time Travel.
Masters of Time is the tenth novel in the After Cilmeri series.
With over a million books sold to date, Sarah Woodbury is the author of more than forty novels, all set in medieval Wales. Although an anthropologist by training, and then a full-time homeschooling mom for twenty years, she began writing fiction when the stories in her head overflowed and demanded that she let them out. While her ancestry is Welsh, she only visited Wales for the first time at university. She has been in love with the country, language, and people ever since. She even convinced her husband to give all four of their children Welsh names.
Sarah is a member of the Historical Authors Fiction Cooperative (HFAC), the Historical Novel Society, and Novelists, Inc. (NINC).
Having been called upon by the pope to wage holy war together, rivals David, King of England (and Duke of Aquitaine) and King Philip of France come together to discuss how to avoid going when they find themselves betrayed and on a crusade of a different type. The two enemies, with only each other to rely on, must evade capture by their betrayers as they seek the assistance of new allies, and learn a new respect for each other. In England, David's own innovations are used against him as news of his death spreads but Queen Lily, trusting her instincts, her heart and a handful of advisors, suspects deceit and seeks to protect her husband's interests and their children until he returns. Meanwhile, eleven year old Princess Gwenllian of Wales, sister to the English king, mourns the possible loss of her brother and summons the courage to risk death and brave the unknown in order to protect his son from the treachery that befell her brother, and finds that familial bonds transcend time and universes.
A brave king left to his own devices must cross two countries to protect his legacy and his people. A determined queen must rally support for the husband she does not believe is dead, and desperate young princess shows her mettle to protect the heir to the English throne. And an ordinary teenaged boy does the extraordinary to keep his family safe.
Conspiracy, Intrigue, Treachery...What else could you ask for!
Sarah Woodbury does it again. I love the history that I learn with each story that is told about David in the Middle Ages. Attempted murder starts the action and it is go at full speed all the way to the end. I absolutely LOVED this edition of the Chronicles of David. Thank you Sarah...what's next???
I enjoyed the entire After Cilmeri Series! My only wish... it continues!! Well written, wonderful character development and stories to keep anyone's attention. Certainly Sarah's series has kept mine. Quite seriously I hope we can all look forward to many more books and opportunities to share the life and times of this remarkable family and their friends.
Please, continue this incredible journey in time and imagination! This has been an outstanding melding of history and creativity. I imagine I am not alone in hoping this amazing tale is far from ended. I look forward to hearing from you how soon I will be able to read the next update on Meg and David's story.
I love this series, and this one was best of all. I managed to finish it in one day, simply because I couldn't put it down. This alternate history is nothing short of amazing. I actually had to buy a history of Wales to compare it to. The characters are fabulous, the descriptions of the time and landscape make it like being there. I'm eagerly awaiting the next installment.
Even though Ana was noticeably absent from this book, I truly enjoyed it. It was a fun story. I enjoyed this story almost as much as the earlier books. I love this series, and I love how real historical people continue to turn up. I also enjoy the visions of the future too!
Cover/Title: At this point, just being part of this series or by this author draws me in without looking at the title or cover. However, the title would have pulled me in because I love time travel books.
Characters: I love that there are so many returning characters in this book. The reader really gets to know them over time. I also love that Gwenllian & Christopher played a bigger role in this book.
Plot: I love that this family cares so much for their people and that they try to do what's right instead of what gets them more power. Poor David is dealing with treachery again but this time Philip, the King of France is caught in the crossfire. I love how he deals with problems. He always has a clear head and does what he feels is right.
Overall: I loved it! It's another great addition to the series. I am a bit sad that it looks like I am almost thru the series. I will be reading the rest soon and I hope the author continues the series. It is, by far, my favorite series.
The stories of the wayward time shifters continue to hold this reader's interest. Each story involves, or re-involves, different minor characters, allowing the reader to follow each thread to see how the twenty-firsters adapt to their new surroundings. It is always interesting too see who else is going to be drawn into the unbelievable life of the thirteenth century.
David, as King of England, and Philip, King France, we're to meet to talk not in a run for their lives! The Templar Knights offered their assistance to help nurse Philip back to health a nd to help David return to London. Lili and the children are held as prisoners. David's cousin, Christopher, helps the children back after they "traveled" and ends up a hero.
Once again, I loved this book. The part where lily was dressed as a commoner, the two templers came riding buy and one stopped..That was not only romantic but it was a wow....that is so beautiful...I almost cried...and I read it over and over again....I can't wait to .......etc..etc....always/p griffith
As always a wonderful book... As always before a new book is released I go back to the beginning... It's a must as there's always something you missed!
I just recently started reading the After Cilmeri Series and I LOVE everything about it. I read all 12 books in 2 weeks and can't wait for the next one to arrive on my kindle next month.
Actions are having consequences and it is glorious
One of the best things about time travel is watching the characters change things only for the results to go sideways. It's the nice job breaking it hero trope and it absolutely needs to happen otherwise you get the goku effect where characters get stronger and stronger with no one to temper them.
It's nice to see they don't have time travel figured out. And that the technology that they brought isn't working for them but rather against them.
I loved the use of the Knights Templar although there'd been a little more about their Christian finance stuff. I spotted the ending coming and it was satisfying. That being said I love Gwenllian and want to see more of her, she's been a forgotten character for much of the series it was nice for her to shine in this,
David has gone to France to meet with King Phillip about Aquitaine and a possible crusade. There is an attempt on their lives, but they escape with Phillip wounded. Meanwhile in England, Gilbert de Clare is telling everyone that David is dead. He puts Lily, Carew and the children in the King’s Tower at Westminster for their protection. Gwenillian takes Arthur and jumps from the tower, ending up in the twenty first century. Luckily, Christopher, David's cousin, sees them. The various story lines proceed from there.
Sarah you continue to amaze me with your stories. This one was so exciting. Recommend this series to everyone. Nice to see the power in the next generation. Thanks
There must be another book in this Series with the new characters now in the Middle Ages. Sarah, don't keep us in Suspense. You'll want to read all the books in this series. This is a grand series and this 10th book did not disappoint!
