Although I’m pretty new to Amy’s books, having read only one other so far, A Highland Knight to Remember – which is the third book in a series called Highland Dynasty – was a lovely read. Of course, I’ll probably appreciate it even better once I read the first two books but, as it is, I really loved it and didn’t fell too lost despite not having start at the beginning.
The story line was intriguing enough to keep my interest up until the end and with a twist I certainly wasn’t expecting. Let’s say that this isn’t the typical love story. No, it’s more than that. It has action, plot twists, characters that are well-developed and a very nice love story between Sean MacDougall and Gyllis Campbell. To top it all, the historical details make it a very interesting read for me and, as I’m a huge fan of history, it made me want to learn more about the period. I’m looking forward to read the first two books of this series and Amy’s other books as I have the feeling she won’t disappoint me.

It has been a while since I read a Highlander novel and when Jarecki came to my attention, I thought it was now or never since I’m totally lacking in the historical department of late. Highland Knight to Remember definitely gave me what I was wanting and more. Whilst this is the third book, I didn’t’ find anything missing or lacking by not reading the first one. This was truly a novel that fit the brief and gave as an adventure that you won’t forget in a hurry. One that is fitting of the tales of highlanders we know through history. The series revolves around the Campbells and whilst like I said I haven’t read the rest. I was immediately drawn in by Gyllis a determine highlander woman who has been in love with Sean MacDougall , a knight that was fostered with her family when she was younger. She knows his reputation and is determined to have him as her. Sean is also keen to do so when Gyllis makes her move However her brother and head of the family has other ideas. He might like Sean and get on with him fine. Sean’s reputation is something that he doesn’t want his family to do anything with. Until everything comes to breaking point when things happened a the Festival that lead these two on two separate paths that sets of an adventure that is fitting of any highlander novel. Love is on the cards for these but only if they can survive what is in front of them . Can they ? Fate has a big part of this novel and I admire Gyllis a lot in this novel She stricked down by a illness that leaves her reeling and honestly she could of taken pity. However she didn’t . She was the same courageous woman I saw in the beginning , determined to over come. Like Sean and the death of his father leaving him as the new clean lead of the the McDougall clan and facing his own battles. Weaving together their stories , Highland Knight to Remember is an adventure that you don’t’ want to miss .
A Highland Knight to Remember by Amy Jarecki Highland Dynasty Series #3
Gyllis Campbell has had a crush on Sean MacDougall for years. Going to the Highland Games gives her a chance to pursue her interest in Sean even though her brother is not thrilled with the idea. Gyllis is upset when Sean leaves early and without explanation. On her way home from the games she falls ill with a wasting disease that she is bound and determined to overcome. While she is busy trying to get well Sean is busy trying to take control of his inheritance. Both have battles to fight that are not easy before they manage to see one another again, interact and move forward as individuals and eventually as a couple. The story includes torture, murder, betrayal, romance, marriage, battle and more. The road to true love is not easy for Gyllis and Sean but it is well fought for and worth what they suffer to achieve it. At times I had trouble believing the fact that they managed to accomplish some of the things they did considering the odds against them and what they had to endure but they always seemed to pull through and achieve whatever they set their sights on.
Thank you to Rock Star Lit PR for the ARC – This is my honest review.
Gyllis has had a crush on Sean for a while now. Going to the Highland Games gives her a chance too see Sean even though her brother is not thrilled with the idea. Sean leaves the games early and she falls ill.
As she is getting better Sean is trying to get his inheritance as both of them are facing some hardships.
As time goes on they get to see each other and the love last through out all of these obstacles.
The characters were great and at times I thought there was too many things going on but as a whole it is worth the read.

Lusty and Exciting with Plenty of Action and Danger!
"Have you ever been kissed?" "I --" Before she could utter her next word, Sean's lips brushed hers in the most feathery kiss she'd ever imagined. Her head spun. With a sigh, she swooned into him. "I've nay been kissed like that before." "That was no kiss." He wrapped his arms around her as if creating a protective barrier where nothing in the world could harm her. His face looked incredibly bold in the moon glow -- desire filled his eyes, yet the dark shadow of his beard and long, wavy hair gave him a look of danger. Hot blood thrummed beneath her skin as he studied her lips. His breath smelled of mint laced with a hint of aged whisky. Her tongue slipped out and wet her bottom lip. Please, kiss me again. With a tilt of his head, Sean plied her with his sultry mouth. Gyllis's knees wobbled, making her body crush into his hard chest. Her breasts molded into him, filling with desire. She closed her eyes and melted. If there was a heaven, she'd found it in his arms.
A HIGHLAND KNIGHT TO REMEMBER by Amy Jarecki is an artfully woven story combining passion and romance amidst familial and clan hostilities. It is set in fifteenth century Scotland. It's the third book in the author's Highland Dynasty series, but it can be fully enjoyed as a standalone story, if that is your preference. It is the story of Gyllis Campbell and Sir Sean MacDougall.
I loved both the hero and the heroine. They were both loyal and strong-willed and they never gave up on their dreams - despite tremendous odds against them. Before they can be together, though, they will each have to conquer some demons on their own.
Gyllis had been enamored with Sean for as long as she can remember. As the story opens, Gyllis is beyond excited as she arrives at the Beltane festival with her family. She has high hopes that Sean will finally notice her as a woman, and not as her brother's sister at the festival. AND he does - with fervor. However, when he later fails to show as they had agreed to a dinner, she believes the worst of him. On her way home from the festival, she falls seriously ill. Left paralyzed, she now fears she will be nothing but a burden to her loved ones.
Sean has devotedly served with Gyllis' brother, Duncan, defending the security of Scotland. Because of Sean's skills at tracking and ambush, he had earned the moniker of "ghost." Sean was also known as a lusty laddie as he was quite popular with the lassies. Even so, he has always wanted Gyllis, but Duncan is firmly against them being together because of Sean's reputation. I found that argument ironic since Duncan himself was quite the womanizer before he found the love of his life. Will true love be denied? You must read this book to find out!
This is the first book by Amy that I've listened to, instead of read. It's also the first time I've listened to Dave Gillies. Listening to the audio narrated by Dave Gillies most definitely added another layer of pure enjoyment to the story. He delivered a clear, solid performance with a Scottish brogue that was absolutely perfect for this tale. He differentiated between the characters so I always knew who was speaking and his pauses and inflections were spot on. To say that I was mesmerized by his performance is an understatement. I would not hesitate to pick up another book voiced by Mr. Gillies.
I absolutely love Amy's books. She is one of my must-read authors. Her stories are always lusty and exciting with plenty of action and danger and imbued with humor. Her love for the Highlands is obvious in her storytelling. If you read her Author's Notes at the end of this book, you'll discover that much of this story is based upon real-life characters and events that she has embellished for our reading pleasure. I look forward to reading the next book in this series which will feature Helen, Gyllis' sister, who was forced to marry a man who did not love her. I highly recommend A HIGHLAND KNIGHT TO REMEMBER to anyone who enjoys lovely Scottish romances.
** I received an ARC of this book from the publisher and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review**
I really loved this book - So far this entire series has been wonderful!
Sean and Gyllis were really great characters. Sean has known Gyllis for almost all her life - but it has only been the past year that he really noticed her. Gyllis has loved Sean all her life and her greatest hope is that they will be together. Which might be a problem, because Duncan (her brother and Sean's best friend) seems dead set on keeping them apart.
Sean's father dies unexpectantly and Sean is called away - Gyllis spys him in the arms of another woman and thinks he has betrayed her - not knowing that the woman was the clan's healer and was just giving him the new of his father. Sean rushes home without seeing Gyllis or letting anyone know what has happened. He arrives home to a whole host of problems that require his immediate attention. He doesn't forget about Gyllis - but he can't leave his clan to see her at this time.
Gyllis believes that Sean was toying with her and is devastated that he was with another woman and left without a word. She leaves the gathering the next day and is struck down ill on the way home. Once they arrive home, Lady Meg admits that Gyllis' illness is beyond her abilities and has Gyllis sent to her brother John's priory to be cared for by the monks. Gyllis recovers from the fever, but has been left almost paralyzed. With the help of the monks, she is trying to regain her strength.
Purely by chance, Sean ends up at the Priory to meet his uncle and sees Gyllis. She is still hurt by his "actions" and refuses to see him. He persists, she learns how wrong she was about him.
From here, these two work together to help Gyllis heal and Sean continues to try and fix the problems on his estate. A truly evil villain is out to destroy Sean and nearly succeeds. Gyllis becomes a heroine of epic proportions.
This book had it all - true love, hot love scenes, epic good vs. evil battles, cameos from the characters of the previous books and a very hard earned HEA.
My only complaint is the book had a lot of emphasis on "scandal", "ruin" & "reputations" almost akin to Regency period books. But it is set in the Early Modern Era. Also Gyllis is 20 - in the early 1500s she would have been married off years ago - not just coming of age. It just felt off for the time period the book was set in.
The writing was wonderful and the story was incredibly moving and beautiful - I cannot recommend this series highly enough. I am really looking forward to the next book featuring Helen and Eoin.
When everything goes fairly swimmingly at the beginning of a story, you know it will never stay that way. Both Gyllis and Sir Sean fight their own demons and love’s happiness is cast aside.
I loved the way Gyllis fought her illness. What could be worse than total paralysis? However, with her sheer will and gusty temper, she begins to heal.
Sir Sean is dealing with keeping his clan together for after his father’s death (Laird of Dunoillie) many men who felt they had been wronged by his father made trouble for him, trying to weaken his leadership. We see that Sir Sean is a strong man, but tends to give men second chances or the benefit of the doubt. In this story, he should have listened to his first gut feeling and gone with it.
The intensity of the love and connect that eventually blossoms between Gyllis and Sir Sean eventually saves his life. Gyllis is a lass I would gladly count as a friend for she is very loyal and giving, qualities every heroine should have.
Amy Jarecki’s stories are always full of excitement, wondrous heroes or heroines with passionate natures. This story has plenty of humorous remarks and scenes which remain in my mind. I particularly likes the time that Gyllis spends in the Abbey being taken care of by the monks. Duncan Campbell, Lord of Glenorchy, brother to Gyllis took his responsibilities seriously where his sisters were concerned. He remembered how he and Sean MacDougall were very much the rake when younger. This put a lot of tension between the good friends and very nearly lost Gyllis the boy she had loved since she was seven.
Other characters sure to have a story of their own is Helen, Gyllis’s younger sister. She was married to a husband who didn’t offer her love. The tie between Gyllis and Helen was very strong, one that every sister should have.
When I read the Author’s Note I was pleasantly surprised to see many of these main characters were indeed part of history. Ms. Jarecki’s talent for storytelling and love of the highlands shines forth in her writing. Her stories are easy to follow, however with plenty of subplots and characters to prod the reader to read, trying to figure out what will happen to blow all happiness to smithereens and open-mouthed when it does.
I highly recommend this lovely Scottish love story, the kind of love that will endure forever. As the author put it, “a love with a fire so passionate the torch he carried could never be snuffed.” That’s heady stuff!
I absolutely love Amy Jarecki!! And I loved this book. Sean and Gyllis, and their will to never give up, and to overcome any obstacle is what love is all about. The passion and tenderness between them make them one to cheer for.
Always infatuated with Sean, Gyllis makes her feelings known to him. But when she is struck down by a mysterious ilness, she loses all hope of ever being anything but a burden to all she loves. And nothing to Sean.
Sean is known around as Lusty Laddie. But he has always wanted Gyllis. And now that he knows how she feels, he will have her. But when death and treachery call him away, he finds himself facing unknown battles. And finding Gyllis in her sickness breaks his heart. But he vows to help her overcome. As they work together, their love grows. But will her brother Duncan allow them to be together. And will an evil, treacherous man seeking revenge on Sean tear them apart before they can even start their life together?
Filled with raw passion, tenderness, mysterious circumstances, treason, and revenge, Amy has once again created a story to become immersed in. One that, once you start, you are hard pressed to put down. And I cannot wait for the next one!!
This is a touching romance. Gyllis has been attracted to Sean for while now and hopes that he my feel the same way about her someday soon, but she is dismayed when Sean departs suddenly, unknown to her it's because of his father's death. Then tragedy strikes herself, she is struck with a terrible illness and sent away to recover as best she can in a religious Priory.
The struggles this couple have to overcome was huge. When Sean becomes Laird he has to overcome the running of his clan and fight for his leadership, and Gyllis was amazing, I didn't quite understand what illness would cause her problem but it was a great story with the romance, loving and tender. Very nice.
This is the story of Gyllis and Sean, whom we met in A Highland Knight's Desire. Some time has passed, and Gyllis is tired of waiting for her brother, Duncan, to accept anyone to be her husband. She has loved Sean since she was a wee lassie and has set her sights on him as her husband. It is a long hard road to get what you desire. There is danger lurking behind tree, tests of leadership and survival pushing them to their limits. Both Gyllis and Sean learn to dig deep within themselves to be together, whatever it takes. I loved this story and I am enjoying the series. Cannot wait for the next one.
I enjoyed this one so much I forgot I had a family ( not really ),but it was tempting .I will not be forgetting A highland Knight to Remember it's definitely going on my to read again shelve. This story is packed with everything and from beginning to end was non-stop entertainment. Yes it's a romance but it also is a story of over coming extremely hard odds .I don't think I would be so strong if faced with the same circumstance. Amy Jarecki is brilliant and I'll be impatiently awaiting her next book !!!!
I didn't like this story so much, there was not enough adventure and I was waiting for something different I have to admit. Anyway Amy Jarecki is really good describing the Higlands so it was ok.
THANKS TO NETGALLEY AND RAPTURE BOOKS FOR THE PREVIEW!
Sean is quite the charmer, "a feral growl rumbled from his throat. “God help me, you are the most beautiful woman on earth." His woman is sometimes impatient , "Gyllis?” Sean reached for a plaid and circled it around his hips as he slid out of bed. “What are you doing in here?" He's not shy either, "absently, his hand snuck down and he stroked himself. “I want you, lass." I liked this book I love any book with highlander.
This is the second of Amy Jarecki's novels that I've read, and my enjoyment was just about the same with this one. Overall, this story was great; lots of love and steam, with some adventure thrown in. I very much enjoyed the interchange between Sean and Gyllis, particularly when Gyllis was in the midst of her recovery from paralysis and he went frequently to visit her.
With that being said, I have some criticisms. Firstly, I thought that it was just in the first book I read (in which the heroine wants to be a nun), but the over-doing-it with God references got to me a bit. There were a *lot* of scenes in which the Sean or Gyllis shouted at the skies, asking God "Why is this happening to me?!?!" or some variation of that. It got old really fast.
Second, was the third sex scene. Yowza. So Gyllis just rescues Sean from the brink of death (he'd been held in a full-body iron contraption and starved for three days). They miraculously make it out of there and to safety in order to clean him up, etc. He gets his servants to draw him a bath (because he was covered in blood, snot, oozing lesions, and his own urine, according to the scenes with Sean in the cave), and then, before he's even gotten into the bath, he's got a raging erection for Gyllis. I just don't get it. He's almost died from lack of food and water, he's weak, he's been tortured, and likely smells to high heaven. How on earth does this make any sense? I mean, he could possibly be up for some sex after he's gotten some rest, food, water, and bathed, but it doesn't make sense to have it before then.
Additionally, once Gyllis starts washing him in the bath, it doesn't say anything about his washing his face and hair, which led me to believe that once they started kissing, his snot-covered nose and upper lip (as he'd previously described it) was rubbing all over her mouth. Not only that, but he pulled her into his filthy bathwater! Talk about cringeworthy. He was supposed to have washed his stale pee covered body in that water, as well as the fact that it'd have dried blood and puss from his "festering wounds" floating around. And somehow Gyllis didn't even notice that the nasty water was soaking into her clothes when he pulled her in. Nope, she just went on kissing his booger-covered face.
My third--and last--criticism of A Highland Knight to Remember was the fact that these characters seem to recover from injuries shockingly fast. Not only was Sean ready for sex immediately after being rescued from the torture device, but he rode off before dawn and went straight towards the battle. Once he's in hand-to-hand combat with his foe, he quickly realizes his folly, but I was still amazed that he was able to get out of bed, let alone ride around and wield weapons.
These things aside, I (again) very much enjoyed this novel. I would certainly recommend it for those wishing for a sweet and sexy love story between two strong-willed characters.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
To be honest, I started and stopped this book multiple times before I got into it. It took a while for me to warm up to both Sean and Gyllis. Sean is a Highland enforcer and friends with Gyllis’ brother, Duncan. Apparently he has quite the reputation with the ladies and Duncan wants him far from Gyllis. Gyllis, however, has a giant crush on Sean. Their meeting at the Beltane Festival is the start of their relationship but the couple is quickly separated. Sean’s father dies and he must rush home to become the new lord. Gyllis is struck by an illness which paralyzes her for part of the book. The couple is reunited when Gyllis is brought to an abbey to heal and Sean visits her there. External forces trying to take Sean’s land causes problems for the couple throughout the book. Once I finally got into the book, it became an intriguing read. Amy Jarecki convincingly transports the reader to 15th century Scotland. From the clothing depictions and historical events to the emphasis on religion in daily life, Jarecki creates a realistic world. While I’m not the biggest fan of religion in romance novels, I liked the historical accuracy of including it in historical books. This book definitely reminded me of Monica McCarty’s Highland Guard series even though it took place a couple of centuries later. Like McCarty’s series, the author’s afterword explains that these characters are based on historical figures. Sean is a determined warrior who fights for his land and his king. Gyllis overcomes the personal trauma of her illness and acts to preserve her love for Sean, both emotionally and physically. While I’m not sure if I’ll go back and read the earlier books in the series (Gyllis’ brother Duncan really bothered me throughout this book), I am intrigued by the next book. There was an excerpt for the book about Gyllis’ sister Helen in the back of A Highland Knight to Remember and I want to know what happens next!
I received a gifted copy in exchange for an honest review. ****4.5 STARS****
Fly back to the past in Highland Knight to Remember by Amy Jarecki. Meet the two main characters, Gyllis Campbell and Sir Sean MacDougall. Gyllis is a well-refined lady who has an eye for Sir Sean MacDougall, but she fears he will not return her attentions. When a local event comes up Gyllis does her best to catch Sir Sean’s attention. Sir Sean, also known as Lusty Laddie, is well thought of as having the attentions of all the beautiful maidens. Though he does have affection for Gyllis. The problem is that her brother, Duncan, must approve and unfortunately, the carousing Sir Sean did was with his loyal friend in arms. Can he turn the tables and change the man he once was? As with all great stories, several conflicts occur in the story. They pose dilemmas such as how far will you fight to save the one you love, or can love heal physical wounds? Readers will be highly entertained as they see these issues resolved. Also, the climax of the story will leave you so intense that you will not be able to put your reader down until the very end. The part I enjoyed reading about was the characters in the story. Gyllis and her sister, Helen, have such a close relationship that you could feel the bond within the words. Amy does a fantastic job of bringing the emotions of the story and characters to the reader. It becomes innate to love those who show strength and despise the characters that are cruel and cowardly. If you are a love of romance and those involving history, I highly recommend Highland Knight to Remember. Happy Reading!!!
When Gyllis Campbell arrives at the Beltane festival, she has nothing else on her mind but winning the heart of Sir Sean MacDougall once and for all. But news when the news of his father's death reaches him, he races home. Gyllis leaves the festival upset, and if her let down feelings aren't enough, she suddenly comes down with a terrible sickness which sends her to Ardchattan Priory for healing. Meanwhile, Sean is in the battle for control, and is pulled in several different directions. So while Gyllis is trying to regain her health, and Sean is trying to take out a demon who covets his title, fighting for their very lives must come first, so will they ever have a chance to let love blossom? This is the first book that I've read by Amy Jarecki, and I really enjoyed it. It took me a bit to get into it though, but I figured that it was because I came late to another party, and if I had read the previous ones first, it would be a different scenario. So after I figured out what was really going on, I couldn't turn the pages quickly enough. The action packed book kept me on my toes as I just wanted Gyllis and Sean to be together. But on the flip side, there's nothing better than a Highland Warrior, in all of his glory, so I can say that I drooled all over the place thinking about Sean. This is the second book that I've read in this genre lately, and I'm more convinced than ever that I need to revisit my previous Scottish obsession. So I can say with all honesty, that I'm ready to read more by this author, and I HIGHLY RECOMMEND A Highland Knight to Remember!
Gyllis was born into medieval times when women were considered second-rate citizens at best, property normally, and usually disposable. Used as barter between families, clans, or kings, women were often not given any choice in what their lives looked like. One small mistake or disability could have you tossed to the street to make your own way. Gyllis' nobility only protected her to a certain point when she developed the paralysis. Her family was fond of her and had a healer on hand as well as a son as Prior of a monastery where she could go for healing. She was also determined to get well. She was given the help to get well, buy she also had the strength of mind and body to do so. When her own determination wavered, Sir Sean bolstered her and gave her something to work for. She was by no means average for her time. Most women would have simply accepted the disability and become a cripple at the mercy of their family. The women in her family were not too unusual, nor were they just typical. Healers, great ladies, and very manipulative women who got their daughters married off where they wanted to be. I had to laugh at the scene caused by Gyllis' mother over the need for an immediate betrothal because of the night Gyllis had just spent alone nursing an unconscious Sir Sean and the ensuing scandal should this not happen. Lovely exit line. Recommended.
This book was so good!!!! Sean is one of the Highland Enforces led by Duncan Campbell. Gyllis is Duncan’s sister. She has been in love with Sean for years but her brother would never allow Sean to court any of his sisters. Sean has loved Gyllis as well but never spoke the words. When his father died and he became laird things started to fall apart. Gyliss fell ill with paralysis on the way home from the Beltane festival and was quickly sent to the abbey where her brother John is the prior so the monks could care for her. Sean accidentally discovered she was there and began to see her regularly and their attraction grew. Then more complications got in their way. Family secrets, betrayal, murder, battles, lack of trust, hope that wouldn’t give up and a love that wouldn’t die.
Gyllis and Sean's story made me feel a range of emotions from tears to laughter and it was an emotional ride from the start. But their love was true and forever. This book should be read by anyone who has a love of historical romance ( with a little descript sex also!) I was immersed in the story and felt I was there in that time and feeling all the ups and downs Sean and Gyllis endured. I have a tendency to tune everyone and everything around me out and engrossed myself in a book. I did not have any trouble doing this through the whole book. I cannot wait to read the next book in this series.
It seemed like more obstacles than necessary--an overprotective brother, a bitter villain, a terrible illness , (was that polio? How was she the only one to have it?!), and traitors galore. It felt like overkill, but I suppose that made the (very brief) happy ending a satisfying relief.
Would've gone 5 stars except for several editing misses that shouldn't have been...
Was anxious to continue with the Highland Dynasty Series. Amy keeps you entertained with her delightful descriptive passages, weaving some of the previous characters into the story as she introduces you to the new ones. Love the historical references!
I really wasn't expecting to enjoy this book. It's not my usual genre. But, it was great! The story kept me captivated and I couldn't guess what would happen next. I really liked the protagonist and all of the characters were believable. This is the 3rd book in the series so I'm now going back to the 1st and am planning to read the whole series.
This is a wonderful series that us full of happiness and sorrow. Amy Jarecki does a fabulous job on all of the characters. I look forward to reading the next book in the series.
Such a difficult time period with so much feuding. For a strong willed intelligent woman as Gillis was portrayed, it would be exceptionally difficult...and annoying. Thankfully she had a few other women to support her so she could do what was needed.
This book held my interest; however my enjoyment was destroyed by bad grammar and mixed up sentences. The author needs a better proof reader. I suggest this book for people who are not anal about the use of the English language.
A lovely read. A live story that spans many years and is filled with betrayal & endless love. Great characters that never give up in each other even when it seems everything is lost
I can't wait for the next book to start reading. This was as great as the first two. I was irritated with the men when they don't believe the women, grr.
