Janette Rallison has five children who keep her well supplied with plot ideas, sometimes even making cameo appearances in her novels. She likes to write romantic comedy because there is enough angst in real life, but theres a drastic shortage on both humor and romance.

Playing the Field was named Society of School Librarians International Best Book Award Honor Book, and both Alls Fair In Love, War, and High School and Love, Life, and the Pursuit of Free Throws were included on YALSAs Popular Paperbacks for Young Adults list. I was driving along last week on our road trip from Utah to Rhode Island, when this book popped into my head. It'd been awhile since I read it and thought I'd see if I liked it as much a second time around. And yes, I did!

The book opens with Aislynn starting at a new high school, but this move is different than all the other times her family has had to move. This time she finally starts to believe that her father’s paranoia over “the enemy” may actually be true. I liked Aislynn, she was easy to relate to and you could understand how she was so torn. I liked her perspective on things; she was literally right in the middle, which made her able to see the good and the bad from both sides. I like how she finally takes charge and thought she was brave for what she ends up having to do.

I loved the romance in this, there is a lot going on so it’s not really the main focus, but I loved it. I was worried there for awhile, but I loved how everything wrapped up.

I think this is my favorite of Rallisons paranormal series, it was original and fun. I liked the take on Horusians and Setites (especially the Setites, that mythology seemed so much more believable and I wish I could write more about it.) Overall, a really fun read. There HAS to be a sequel, I want more!

This YA fantasy has a whole lot of my favorite tropes, like secrets, secret history, and Teens Getting Powers. It takes a bit of time to get going, as Aislynn, her overly protective brother Roark, and her dad move from place to place. Aislynn just wants to lead a normal life and go to college to study botany, but good luck with that what with her dad's total paranoia, their bullet proof house, ultra protected cell phones, and the fact that she never gets to go out on a date what with her glowering brother and suspicious dad always giving anyone new the third degree.

Aislynn puts up with it until she meets Dane, a super cute guy at her new high school, who shows an interest in her--then blows cold again. She's intrigued enough to sneak around her dad's rules (which he never explains) until suddenly, everything she thought she knew . . . isn't true.

Then the story takes off, high tension, with chases, powers, and above all, complex characters who refuse to fall into black hats and white hats. Aislynn not only struggles with the high octane emotions of teenage romance, she struggles with ethical questions, moral questions, and oh yes, scientific questions, all of which are life and death matters.

This during some chases around the world.

I thoroughly enjoyed the book, though this is the second one I've read in a month that left me at the end kind of bewildered. The main relationship question suddenly resolves, but everything else is left up in the air--sort of resolved, but did not feel resolved, especially as bigger questions remained. It felt as if the second half of the story was poised to begin.

I don't know enough about Egyptian mythology to know if it was used correctly, but I liked the world Rallison built, and I really liked that there are no easy answers, but a sense of the numinous arising out of some fairy dark observations about human behavior, superpowers notwithstanding.

The only complaint was being constantly poked out of immersion by all the slapdash copyedit errors: grammar and tense fluffs, punctuation glitches, some copyedit comments not removed, "Jane Austin" instead of Austen, and stuff like "hocking" when "hawking" was meant. The book deserves better.

I got tired of waiting for the story to start. At Chapter 6, 16% of the way in, it still hasn't gone anywhere. Yeah, I get it, Aishlynn is frustrated trying to date. Dane is dreamy. Only we know from the blurb that there's more to him and I couldn't care less about the standard teen angst. Don't get me wrong, I have a soft-spot for YA romance and teen angst. But I came into this with expectations of the supernatural showing up and at this point it's all tease, tease, tease.

I've loved a number of Rallison's teen romances. If this had been another, I'd probably . . . still be sick of waiting for things to get started already, actually. If nothing has changed for anybody in the story at 16% in, you have a pace problem...

Am I allowed to whine first in a review? Is that uncool? Well, I've just got to whine a little teeny bit. I'll tell you why. Whenever I read a book by Janette Rallison (or C.J. Hill) I walk away frustrated because I know the next book will take FOREVER to come out. The wait between books seems SO, SO long. (best whiny voice here) Why can't they just come out sooner so I don't have to wait so long?! Why are there no promises of a next book already in the works? Why?

Okay. Whine over.

I only say all that because I love this book. My daughter loves this book. We had a sob fest over the fact that we'd have to wait so long get the next book- if there even will be one. (oh. did I say the whining was over? oops. my bad.) It's the same deal with the Slayer series. You know? I need the next books faster than they are coming out. What can I do to help that process along? Send the author chocolate? Or maybe just write really awesome reviews so everyone else will want to read the books too and then we'll all join up together and WHINE. It probably won't work. The author has five kids and she's probably immune anyway. It happens with kids.

This book is paranormal with an Egyptian twist on vampires. They aren't vampires, but yeah, they kinda are. I loved all the Egyptian stuff, it was cool. I could imagine easily every setting that the story took me from the hot Arizona monsoon (I've lived through those) to the sand in Egypt (I haven't been there) and on the east coast beach. I feel like I traveled the world in this book. I even went to Antarctica and England!

I loved the struggle Aislynn had between what was right and what was wrong for the two warring groups. Those lines seemed so blurred to her- especially when love and loyalty came into play. It was interesting to me how I felt that confusion too. I love when the female leads are smart girls, resourceful and also compassionate. That is exactly what I got with Aislynn.

This book has awesome pacing. I was compelled to keep reading. I didn't want to put it down and I was maybe just slightly annoyed when I had to in order to feed the children. :) I love books that leave me wanting more. The action and romance was evenly distributed to give the book a balanced feel. My favorite scenes were the ones with rain references. Oh, kissing in the rain is hot. H-O-T.

So, yeah. Another fantastic book by Janette Rallison. Who, if she has any compassion and mercy in her heart will beging writing the next book today. :)

I enjoy all of Janette Rallison's books but this one of her best! Filled with her usual wry humor and wit, not to mention plenty of hot guys and romance, this one had more adventure and intrigue than her usual books. It felt a lot more like her books published under the pen name CJ Hill--high adventure, high stakes, with a hint of paranormal. The love triangle only added to the conflict and left me wondering who I would choose if two totally hot, awesome guys like them wanted me. It starts off as a teen romance, but there are little hints of much more to come. And then when that "much more" happens, the book leads readers on a breathless chase all over the world. This is a must read for teens and adults.

I was immediately drawn into this story because of the likable characters and the fast-paced storyline. Aislynn is used to moving around and dealing with an overprotective dad and brother, but a kiss in the rain with her crush, Dane, changes everything. She finds herself in the middle of an ancient war, whether she likes it or not.

Stories like this just reinforce that I don't have much creativity flowing through my veins. There were so many elements that took me by surprise and the twists and turns kept me on edge--which side is bad and which is good?

At first, I thought that Aislynn's dad was absolutely insane. You know, the kind of guy who would wear a tinfoil hat to keep the aliens at bay. I think she humored hi
m, probably thinking similar things, but he's smarter than he seems. There are definite reasons to his madness.

I love the relationship that Aislynn and her brother, Roark, share. He's so protective of her and she really loves and worships him. I especially love how strong Aislynn becomes, even in the face of danger. I really love the chemistry between Aislynn and Dane--what a swoon-worthy guy! This quote says it all, "I'm going to regret it if I kiss you," he said. "The problem is, I'm also going to regret it if I don't." Who wouldn't swoon over that? I really, really hope there's another book coming soon--I need more of this story!

Content: no language; some moderate violence--fighting, war-type violence, flesh eating bugs with some description, death--none of it is extremely graphic; kissing.

I don't think words can accurately express how much I love this book. And yet here I am attempting to do so anyway.

This book is deep, asking all sorts of philosophical questions between what is better; right and wrong or love. There is no easy way out for the characters. It's cruel really. I love it.

Also apparently everything having to do with Egyptian mythology will forever hold a special place in my heart. And this book has a lot of Egyptian mythology. It also has a lot of humor thanks to Rallison's signature writing style. Plus it's clean.

It's like there are multiple books in this one novel. In the beginning we get the slight taste of the romantic comedies that Rallison is so good at, then later on it is a mystery with sort of a vampire feel, after that it is an action adventure novel filled with globetrotting and secret tunnels under pyramids. We have hostage situations, backstabbing, and grand theft auto. Then we get about twenty pages of what has got to be the best ending ever to grace the literary world. I don't know how to describe even though I've read those last twenty pages about a hundred times. Actually, that was a lie. I know how I would describe it: perfection. The ending perfectly ties up everything in this book. And yet it leaves so much so maddeningly open for future books to come.

This book made me love everyone I shouldn't have, then it broke my heart. A lot. Then it pieced my heart back together, but it left out a very important chunk. And I fear I will never get that last bit of my heart back until I get a sequel.

So please, please, please

5+ stars -- If I could give this book more than 5 stars, I would!

Aislynn Brogan was born into an ancient war that she knows nothing about until she is a junior in high school. She always thought her parents' obsessive distrust of strangers was a quirk. When her mother died 8 months ago her older brother Roark became overprotective. She is falling in love with Roark's friend, Dane Breckinridge and Roark is not happy about it. Roark doesn't trust Dane and thinks that Dane asks too many questions.

The Horusians and the Setites are ancient enemies. The Setites have found the fountain of youth. All they have to do is kill 3 humans a year to create the elixir that keeps them from aging -- and because they kill dangerous criminals to create the elixir, they feel like they are providing a service to humanity. But they are being hunted by the Horusians who think the Setites are cold-blooded murderers and will do anything to stop them. The Horusians value what they believe is right over love.

Aislynn discovers that she is the daughter of a Setite father and a Horusian mother. She has traits of both and there are people she loves on both sides, but she doesn't completely fit in with either group. Her ex-boyfriend Dane is Horusian, and she has a kind-of fiancé Jack who is a Setite. She sees the good and bad in both groups, and just wants to be able to live her life in peace - even if it means turning her back on the only man she has ever loved and her family. If only her life could really be that simple...

While this book had a great ending, I really, really want this story to continue in a sequel! I would be the first in line to buy the sequel!

This was pretty interesting and had a kinda cute romance. The mythology really bogged it down though (the mythology itself was interesting but the way it was told wasn't - there were long stretches that read like a fricken book report - NOT cool). The pacing was really wonky also.

I love Janette Rallison's books so had high expectations going in and once again, she didn't disappoint! Aislynn thinks her father goes overboard when he secures their home like a fortress every time they move and keeps warning her about people with flashing green eyes and other physical abnormalities. She looked diligently for people matching that description when she was young, but she's tired of it. As far as she's concerned, she's a typical teenager trying to fit in and catch the attention of Dane, the boy she's had a crush on for a while. He finally appears to like her back and they share an amazing kiss in the rain but shortly after that something happens that changes everything.

Aislynn tries to figure out what's going on and the real story of the night her mother died. Did it really happen as she'd always been told? She also learns the history between the Horusians and the Setites and where she fits in with them. There's so much more to tell but I won't so you can experience this for yourself!

I love how quickly the storyline moved and it never felt slow to me. I couldn't figure out who the good guys and bad guys were. There's some romance (and great kissing scenes!) and I was rooting for a relationship that seemed unlikely to work. There's also lots of traveling, an ancient war, mythological and paranormal elements and twists and turns that kept me guessing until the end. The ending is satisfying but there's still more story that can be told. I'm really hoping for a second book!!

I received a copy of this book to review. My opinion is 100% my own.

I LOVE Janette Rallison's books!
I read everything I can from her...LOVE THEM!
This book is FANTASTIC!

What if you weren't really who you thought you were?

Aislynn thinks her dad is really overprotective and kind of crazy.

He is always moving the family around and always telling them to watch for the enemy...those who ask a lot of questions, have eyes that glow green and seem stronger than anyone else.

Then she meets Dane, he likes her back...she takes him home while her father is out...and his eyes turn green...

Could everything her father ever taught her be true?

And what about her mother's death? Is it more than she knows about?

Come with Aislynn as she explores Egyptian tombs, camps among glaciers, fights man-eating scarabs, runs for her life...

And proves whether she believes more in love...or what's right and wrong.

A GREAT STORY!
VERY WELL WRITTEN!
A BOOK YOU CAN'T PUT DOWN!

(4.5 stars) - do what's right or protect those you love?

This is definitely YA, but I was intrigued by the different approach to the usual paranormal romance. And I really liked the protagonist's development as she wrestled with the very difficult moral dilemma of her situation. Overall, I enjoyed the story.

While I always appreciate the reviews that warn of cliffhangers, this story is NOT actually a cliffhanger; & while the author did say she'd write a sequel if there was sufficient demand for it, she also said that she felt it was pretty much complete, so no, she wasn't trying to manipulate readers as some suggest.

Now that I've read it myself, I agree with those who say the ending is a little abrupt, but the story can reasonably be considered complete; HOWEVER, readers do want to know how things turned out for the characters they've come to care about. I hope the author might still consider writing an epilogue to appease the frustrated & give the story fuller closure.

***SPOILERS***
Answering questions like: Did Aislynn succeed in staying hidden with Dane's help? (ok, it sounded like she did, but if that answer is no, then there needs to be another book, doesn't there?) Did her father figure out how to stop the scarabs? Did the Setites find out what she had & come after her? Which of the Setites that we met in the story gave up the life force habit? (this is probably the one that readers care about the most) Did the Setites & Horusians eventually work out some form of a truce?
***END SPOILERS***

*Romance level: sweet kisses, nothing graphic

An ancient Egyptian war. Setites vs. Horasians. And one teenage girl is dragged between it all, unable to decide which side she truly belongs to.

Aislynn wants a normal life, to date boys without her father having to do a thorough background search before hand. But, unfortunately for Aislynn, her desire for a normal relationship is what lands her into the mess that Son of War, Daughter of Chaos is all about. The beginning of the novel, up until 20% of the book, is Aislynn fighting to be a normal teenager, trying to get her crush to notice her and hopefully claim herself a boyfriend. So, within that first 20%, the reader is embedded in a pseudo-contemporary where the main plot is on the back burner because Aislynn is a rebellious-yet-ignorant teenager unaware of the danger that surrounds her. Glimpses of build up towards Aislynn's demise make the reader hyper-aware of the signs while Aislynn is completely oblivious in her stupor of normality, thus making the buildup towards the "the boy with the glowing green eyes" from the synopsis that much less dramatic. And made me like Aislynn less due to her ignorance for the first half of the novel.

But, when the teen romance is thrown to the side despite how many times it swerves in and out for the rest of the novel, the plot is given its time to shine. An Egyptian war. Both sides have their definition of right and wrong, and each one has it out for the other. Stopping at nothing until either side is extinct. But Aislynn is a hybrid of the two. Daughter of a Horasian and a Setite. Learning about the two groups was the interesting part of the story, the differences in powers and politics. And the side characters did liven up the novel when the Aislynn show was getting too romantic for my liking. Roark, her older brother, whose name I completely adore, was one of my favorite characters by the middle of the book, seeing his character divulge past the over-protective older brother and into more of what the Setite society is all about. And by the end of the book, I even came to like Dane. His idle banter with Aislynn was enough to win me over by the end of it. The romance . . . not so much.

Final Summation: Once past the typical I-just-want-to-be-normal scenario with Aislynn in the beginning of the novel, her growth and progression of understanding herself and the world she's been thrown into makes for a gripping read. I would love for there to be a sequel seeing as I just begun enjoying the characters in this story, and I'd hate to see that adoration for them only last a couple chapters towards the end. I'd hate to have Aislynn turn into a badass by the end without a companion novel to serve her justice.

RALLISON does it again!!! AWESOME BOOK!

Aislynn, Roark and their father, are Setite's as well as Cordelia and Jack. Who are also a brother and sister. Then there was Dane one of Roark's friends. Aislynn wanted to be more than friends with Dane.

Dane is a Horusian. What is a Horusian you may ask? Well I wish I could tell you :). What I can tell you is that having read it I still cannot decide who the bad guys are and who the good guys are. I wish I wasn't serious, but I am. I LOVE, LOVE it when a book can do that to me.

Rallison (aka C.J. Hill) has done it again. I have yet to read a book of hers that I have not fell in love with. Her writing is beautiful. This book was so intense. It was AWESOME.

Like I said above I cannot tell if the Setites or the Horusians are good guys or bad guys. I think there are good and bad things about both of them, so even as I was coming to the end, I was hoping to determine for sure who were the "bad" guys. It might be more obvious to some than me, but Rallison realllllllly needs to do a sequel :). I dreamt about this book last night, as I always do when a book doesn't have a definite ending. I guess it could have one, but in my head there is so much more that could happen. So in her interview at the end of the book she says that if she can sell 10,000 copies of this book she will do a sequel. Lets just say, I am going to recommend this book to every person I know so that we can reach that goal. I need a sequel....Selfish? Of course I am ;).

I loved the Egyptian link in this book. I loved the characters. I loved the writing. I do not think there is anything that I do not like about this book. (well other than I want a sequel, but that is my own issue...hehe).

I loved this book. That is all there is too it. I wish I could say more, but almost anything I say will give too much away. You should really go buy a copy! No, Really! I so want a sequel...hehe

Let me say, "I LOVE this cover!" Rallison is a master at drawing me into whatever book I am reading of hers. I am never disappointed with her books....I just added a few more to my collection :).

I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review

4.5 Stars

Son of War, Daughter of Chaos is an intriguing story of a war between two races with ties to ancient Egypt. Main character Aislynn goes from thinking her father is not only overprotective but delusional, to realizing the forces he hides from are real. Lines are drawn, and she is trapped firmly in the middle-- no not quite the middle... Aislynn is her own person and thinks for herself.

Aislynn is an interesting character. I found her somewhat boring at the beginning, just your average teenager with a father and brother who are way too overprotective. As the story progresses, Aislynn is forced to decide what she truly believes is right, what is wrong, and what she's willing to live with. By the end, she's a rather impressive character who refuses to be pushed around.

This is one of those stories that really makes you think about right and wrong. Were I in Aislynn's shoes, I'm honestly not sure how I'd react. Her parents really screwed up by hiding everything from her for so long. They way she learned about her heritage was not healthy. I think she handled it better than most would in her position. Many of the characters were hard to like due to circumstances I can't reveal, and yet I also didn't dislike them.

I loved the Egyptian history woven throughout the story and how the two sides came to be. Can't go into any more detail, but it is quite interesting. My major complaint would be the pacing. It's very slow at the beginning, and there are several times in the middle where it drags as well. Of course, this just makes it clear how much I enjoyed the plot, since I plowed through in one day anyway. While the ending wasn't a cliffhanger, I was left with too many questions to feel completely satisfied. I don't know if Ms. Rallison is planning a sequel, but I'd be happy to read more about Aislynn and what happens next.

Oh my - did I love this book or what!!!!! Anything mixed with Egyptian history and mythology will be a stellar story for me! I truly love Janette Rallison's books. She has this great ability to write books from a teenage girl's perspective without making the least bit annoying, because let's face it, the younger the heroine, the more likely she is a spoiled, rebellious brat, as it is in every teenager's nature. Aislynn thinks her dad's is too overprotective and her brother is just a pain in the butt trying to keep her safe. She's totally into one of her brother's friend and who can blame her, he has beautiful eyes, gorgeous hair, flawless body of a well kept footballer player and his lips makes any girl trembling - as my friend would say "get it girl!". So yeah, she likes him and all seems to be going well but then her family's history somehow gets mixed in this and it goes from difficult to complicated, complicated, COM-PLI-CA-TED. Wow, it doesn't take long for this book to jump into action, and when I mean jump I mean literally. It's such a whirlwind of all that's happening, Aislynn trying to understand past events with present chaos. I was at the edge of my seat every step of the way, not understanding yet needing desperate to. I loved Aislynn, even though she feel she's been living a life based on lies, not knowing what's right or wrong anymore, she sticks to her guns and really takes a stand on what she believes is best for everyone. It was kind of sad of the sacrifices she had to make for the benefit of everyone, but still very admirable. She definitely was her mother's daughter. I totally recommend this book to anybody who enjoys Egyptian mythology to read this. The ending was absolutely great. Defiiiinitely looking forward to the sequel!

I've been in a reading slump for a couple of months, so to fix that I decided to turn to Janette Rallison to get me out of it. I'm so glad I can always count on her. :)
This book was quite a bit different from the other books I've read by Janette. She usually writes romantic comedy's, this had a lot more action and mystery going on...and I loved it!
I'm actually surprised that this wasn't picked up by a major publisher. It has New York Times bestseller written all over it in my opinion. Actually it is way better than many of the Young Adult books on that list already.
Seriously, as I read this I was just in awe of what a good writer Janette is. I've been trying to figure out how to go about writing my current young adult romance, and reading this showed me just how far I have to go to be at her level.
Anyway, back to the review. :) This book is about a teenage girl named Aislynn who has grown up with a very paranoid father. She doesn't get to really go any where on her own, because her brother Roark is always there to chaperone her and keep her safe from "the enemy"--who she has never met and wonders if they really exist.
But aside from the moving around all the time, and weird security measures her father puts her through, Aislynn tries to live a normal life. When they move to Arizona after her mother's death, she meets a boy named, Dane, in her World History class. When Dane starts hanging out with her brother, she knows it's time to finally take this chance and get him to notice her, but little does she know Dane has a few secrets of his own.
Of course a lot goes on that I can't write about without spoiling anything. But this book had a great balance between romance and action...so girls and guys will both enjoy this.

I was fascinated with the mythological/paranormal aspect of Son of War, Daughter of Chaos. I liked the blending of ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs and the angle of vampires/werewolves. I loved how Janette Rallison was able to incorporate the history of Pharaoh's and the political unrest of Ancient Egypt and add a speculative paranormal twist.

Aislynn wants to be a typical teenager. Her mother was recently murdered and her family moves around a lot. Her senior year of high school the legacy of her family is abruptly revealed and she learns of ancient Egyptian secrets. Two factions, who were genetically altered by technology lost after the fall of Egypt, seek to rid the world of the other. The conflict is centuries old and now Aislynn is caught in the middle.

The book has multiple settings. Aislynn and her family are on the run, but in this book is found in the Unites States, the Arctic, Egypt, and Europe. The story has multiple plot twists. I was left not knowing which side was right. They both have valid points and traditions. Ultimately, I agreed with Aislynn. I loved reading about her dilemma and how she came about her decisions. She is a great female MC.

The book appeals to readers of mythology and paranormal. It's one that I would let my teenage daughter read. There is kissing and a violence.

5 Stars! Aislynn's family have always moved around, never staying in one place until the mysterious death of Aislynn's mother. Aislynn and her brother Roark have been trained by their father to detect the enemy but little does Aislynn know an enemy is already in their midst in the form of her brother's friend and Aislynn's crush Dane. Dane is a Horasian - a sworn enemy of the Setites.

The moment I read the blurb and saw "ancient Egyptian war" I knew I had to read it. I've always had a fascination with Egypt - to me its one of most mysterious and magical places in the world. I love how the author incorporates the history and mythology of ancient Egypt into her own story.

The Setites and Horasains are races descended from ancient rival Egyptian gods. Both races have their own set of supernatural abilities. Aislynn discovers her mother was Horasian and her father is a Setite, which makes her brother and her hybrids. Torn between the two sides, is Aisylnn's love for her family enough to make her turn a blind eye to their questionable deeds? I loved that by the end of the book I couldn't tell who the good guys were supposed to be.

Hopefully there is going to be a sequel to this book (fingers crossed).

I am a new reader to Rallison and if all of her books are as unique and engaging as Son of War, Daughter of Chaos, then I will be a fan for life! This book is so different what most of what is out there right now. It is contemporary but has Egyptian myths and legends that Aislynn (the main character), finds out are real and she is now in the middle of it! Why can't her teenage life be normal? It is far from normal but definitely exciting and full of adventure and love, or what she thought was love. She has to learn who she can trust, who she is and where she belongs. I loved this book more than any other than I have read in a long time! There were so many different details that went into the story and so many emotions that Aislynn experienced. She had tough choices to make and it endeared her to me even more. If you want a great book full of adventure, myths and legends come to life, and family and love then this is the book for you! A page-turner to the very end, I am hoping beyond all hope that Rallison will write another after this one! AMAZING! I received a copy of this book through a blog tour; all thoughts and opinions are my own.

Each time I finish a book by Janette Rallison, I go through withdrawals. In this case, it's worse, because I'm pretty sure I've now read every book by her, and there's nothing left for me to pick up until she writes something new.

*Pouts in corner*

I'd love for this to have a sequel, which she said she'd consider doing if this book sold enough copies, so here's my plug: BUY THIS BOOK! Because I need me some more Dane. It's only three bucks, and I'm sure you could do without your morning latte for one day. Just sayin'.

I loved seeing each "side" to the conflict and how they viewed their world. Of course, there was one side I agreed with more, so it'd be interesting to see where the author would take things.

Of course, where this author always shines is in making the reader feel like the stakes always escalate. There's never really a good place to put down the book. And as always, the romance angle in her books are always swoon worthy.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Ms. Rallison has a great storytelling talent and I believe she's at her finest in this story. Don't get me wrong, I have read almost all her books and loved them. This book is just different. In a great way.
Mythology, suspense and romance all find a happy balance.
Rallison teaches mythology without making the reader feel they are in school. She's able to twist certain aspects into a believable and intriguing story. I kept turning the pages and reading, wondering what will happen next. And while there is a romantic triangle, it works. You'll just have to read the book to find out why.
So if you like a good, clean, mythological, romantic, suspenseful story (I could probably use more adjectives, but I'll refrain), buy this book.

My thoughts: I confess. I am a lover of all books Janette Rallison, and Son of War, Daughter of Chaos is no exception. Not knowing what to expect, I approach the book with caution. It didn't sound like a book I would normally read, but again, I do enjoy the author so I gave it a try. What a interesting story. Janette made the story come alive for me with her usual flair. Plenty of descriptions without going overboard. I enjoyed the characters, especially Aislynn. What a great character. I also enjoyed the clean romance and the suspense. It kept me reading long into the night!

I loved this book. I generally like most books by Janette Rallison, but this one was special. It should be in front of a larger audience.

I love paranormal books where the hero/heroine are mortal enemies, but falling in love anyway. I don't know what this says about me as a person. LOL So I adored the romance here.

And it felt very unique. I haven't read another YA Fantasy/Romance like this one, so I'm always entertained when I read something that feel so different from everything else.

Totally recommend.
