Recopila Something is Killing the Children núms. 26 a 30.
Prior to his first professional work, Tynion was a student of Scott Snyder's at Sarah Lawrence College. A few years later, he worked as for Vertigo as Fables editor Shelly Bond's intern. In late 2011, with DC deciding to give Batman (written by Snyder) a back up feature, Tynion was brought in by request of Snyder to script the back ups he had plotted. Tynion would later do the same with the Batman Annual #1, which was also co-plotted by Snyder. Beginning in September 2012, with DC's 0 issue month for the New 52, Tynion will be writing Talon, with art by Guillem March. In early 2013 it was announced that he'd take over writing duties for Red Hood and the Outlaws in April.
Tynion is also currently one of the writers in a rotating team in the weekly Batman Eternal series.
¿Aún no los has leído? ¿Y a qué esperas insensato? 🤣
Not quite so many children killed as the title implies. Fortunately, or unfortunately depending on how you look at it, it's not the annoying child from the last volume that gets eaten, just some random kids scattered about the story. Tsk. Barely seems to count.
I enjoyed this volume a lot more than the last one. The above-mentioned annoying young lady that Erica rescued (Gabi) is slightly less obnoxious this go-around. Don't get me wrong, I still find her to be on my top ten list of fictional characters that I'd like to see killed by a monster, but she's not #1 anymore.
Cutter is just terrifying. Basically, she's just everything that's wrong with the organization all wrapped up in one psychotic redhead. I think Erica is far safer going up against monsters than she is going up against this crazy woman. She's a fabulous villain and I'm looking forward to the showdown!
We learn more about who Riqui is to Gabi, and her relationship with not only her family, but also the sheriff. Poor guy. He's so earnest. I wonder if he's going to get eaten in the next book?
Cutter is my favorite thing about this arc, I think. Looking forward to the next volume, as always. Recommended.
This collection continues the story of our favorite monster killer Erica. It picks up right from the ending of the last collection as Erica is still in New Mexico. She is concerned with the monster and the trouble that is about to arrive.
Even though this is a second collection of a story arc this was more set up for the story. I will say that this collection does set up what I believe will be a crazy collection in the following collection. Even though this was set up and not much movement forward with the plot I was still enthralled by it. One of the highlights for me was the dialogue. The dialogue has been on point throughout this series run but I absolutely loved it in this collection. It gave a good sense of the gloom and the dire situation our characters have found themselves in currently. Once again I loved the artwork as it isn't bright and cheery. It fits in perfectly with the tone of this series.
Like I said this was a set up collection and I am so interested in the path this story is taking. It is a nice dichotomy between human monsters and actual demonic monsters that our protagonist is going to have to face. I cannot wait to see how it all goes down.
Alternate title: "Something is Getting Pretty Complacent About Killing All of These Kids, and I Might Even Go So Far as to Say Lazy, So Something Really Better Get on the Stick"
5.0 Stars. Volume 6 collects issues #26-30 of the comic. Note: these issues are not yet available in a paperback volume but are available digitally on Comixology and Hoopla.
I had some issues with the previous volume. I thought the pacing was off, the story was too much of a rehash of Archer's Peak, and some of the new characters were too one-note. None of that was an issue for me in this volume!
What is killing the children this time? It's called a Duplicitype, a monster that can imitate a person. A doppelganger. As it grows in strength it's ability to look like a human also grows and Erica does not know how to kill it. I love that the series has changed up the stakes a bit for Erica. She's truly a lone wolf now.
After the events of the previous volume Cecelia is questioning the Order's decision to bring in Charlotte Cutter. The Dragon reveals to her...
Gabi has toned down the belligerent attitude and her demeanor is now not that dissimilar from Erica. She's fierce and angry, but unafraid. I'm pretty sure she's headed towards a life of monster hunting at this point but that's not a spoiler, just pure speculation on my part.
By the end of this volume Erica is set to be battling adversaries on three fronts. It seems unlikely this can all be wrapped up in the next 5 issues and it won't upset me if this story arc is longer than the previous one. The stage has been set and I am excited to see how the story plays out. ["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
Erica Slaughter is now a rogue monster-hunter, and she has to deal with a vicious House of Slaughter agent on her trail, a new type of monster that can take human form, and a couple of sassy young girls she’s sworn to protect. No matter what she does, though, “Something is Killing the Children”, still.
Volume 6 seems a bit toned down in terms of everything—pacing, violence, any action whatsoever—-but that’s not necessarily a bad thing, if you like your monster-hunting stories with a fair bit of character development here and there to make things more believable.
James Tynion IV can keep this series going for as long as he wants, for all I care. I’ll keep readin’ ‘em…
This volume is a middle chapter in a longer story arc, but James Tynion IV squeaks in enough action and character development to keep me reading through with the same urgency as if it were the finale. And, boy, the confrontation being set up looks like it's going to be a humdinger! So eager for the next book!
Fantastic volume by my reckoning, Cutter is just as horrifying as any supernatural beastie and the lengths she'll go to to achieve both her goals AND keep herself amused are extraordinary.
Erica, meanwhile, is really rocked back onto her heels but still trying to make a positive difference, though what it is costing her is beginning to show.
7.6/10 The story progresses, as we learn more about Erica's new acquaintances. More importantly, we see a lot more of Cutter and man... That is one scary lady. So yeah, between monsters and Cutter, Erica is in a tough spot. I can't wait to see the conclusion of this arc and most of all the face-off between Erica and Cutter.
2025: My feelings stay the same, a bit of a meandering volume. But saying that, it's still great. The last two issues really make this volume exciting and Cutter is cutthroat. Overall a solid volume, great moments.
2023: This felt a bit of filler put in here. A lot of waiting around places and planning their next step. It was refreshing to see our hero hurt and she couldn't just recover right away. However, Cutter is a lethal bitch and she is not fucking around, which leads us to an exciting last issue. It seems a big showdown will happen and I'm not sure who's going to make it but I'm in.
I’ve always thought this series was a bit overrated. This is a good series for sure, but the obsession around the story is one I just don’t get. It’s always been an entertaining story, just nothing top tier in my opinion. This volume works in a big way to change all of that though. Monsters aren’t the only thing to fear in this book. This has become a survival story and Tynion and Dell’Edera do a great job of showing fear, emotion, and action in this one!
Cutter is the perfect villain. More of a build up for the suspense in the next volume, I'm guessing, but still doesn't have a boring moment. I'm actually more intrigued.
Surprised at how it can flesh out the characters in such short amount of pages.
we continue erica’s story in tribulation as she’s distracted from the monster by the local police and the cutter erica’s former house hired to assassinate her. i loved getting more insight into gabi and riqui’s stories throughout this volume!
This is such an excellent graphic novel series. It's scary, gruesome, beautifully drawn and filled with excellent characters that draw you in. Volume 6 continues Erica Slaughter's journey to Tribulation, New Mexico where a creature, a Duplicitype is killing children and their families. This creature gains strength the more it kills and eventually can assume a human form... usually that form being of a human it fears the most... Enter Erica Slaughter.
Erica has left the Order of Saint George because she can't follow its practices anymore. They do kill monsters that are killing children but they also remove all evidence of their activities, even if it means killing witnesses. They trained Erica to be one of their black masks after her family was killed by a monster... (This monster is now her pet and adviser, held captive in the form of a stuffed octopus. (A bit of humor there)
So Erica is in Tribulation. She does do battle with the monster but doesn't know how to kill it. Her advisor, Big Gary, was killed by another Black Mask from the Head Office. She is known as Cutter. Cutter has been tasked to remove Erica from the picture, a job she loves doing. Cutter is a bit of a psycho.
So Erica, now seriously injured by the monster also has to deal with Cutter and a local sheriff who doesn't know what is going on, except that something or somebody is killing lots of people. And he is about to be more confused when Cutter arrives.
There is so much going on in this relatively short volume but it's just fascinating. Erica is a great character and she is being helped by Riqui, a native American lesbian and Gabi, a young girl who has seen the monster in action. Both have their own issues but also their own strengths.
The story is so great, the artwork fantastic and the characters excellent. I can't wait for the next volume of this series to arrive... Well, I guess I have to... *sigh* (4.0 stars)
Another great volume! Some interesting twists and turns. I can't wait to see how this goes down between Erica and Catherine and what the fallout will be. I'm hoping for some sweet revenge. Plus the monster isn't dead yet so we must read on. I mean what else can we do? I do have volume 7 in hand, which wraps up the Tribulation arc. I'll read that next and then I'll read 8 and 9 together once 9 comes out later this year since those are stand-alone stories from Erica's past. Well here we go!
This story arc keeps setting up tropes I dislike - this time Erica is framed for a mass murder by the eeeeevil Cutter, who actually WANTS the bigger badder monster to kill children - and I still find Gabi annoying. We’re gonna add almost every other side character in this New Mexico town to that annoying list as well.
The only intrigue in this for me is with the small bit of the Order we got. Super excited to see what Cecilia is going to bring to the story as she heads toward the main action.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I don't read many series, comic or regular book, but I noticed that this one (and it would make sense for most series to do that) has these set up volumes where we basically deal with the fallout of the last and prepare for the next volume. And I would expect for that to be a bit slow and/ or underwhelming but both times it happened in "Something is Killing the Children" I was completely engaged. I mean it's not like nothing happens but I think what I like about these volumes is that we take some time for the characters.
Erica is truly between a rock and a hard place here, she has nowhere left to turn for help. It's just her and the people she's trying to protect but to protect them she has to put them in harm's way. We are preparing for the big showdown between Erica and Cutter but there is also the toughest monster yet out there hunting for children. I really enjoyed some of the smaller moments here, like the conversations with the stuffies (yes, this time there isn't just the octopus, there's also a little messed up dolly). The desperation is in the air and I am so curious what some characters will end up doing in the last volume. Can't believe I am at the last volume!
This one is the very definition of penultimate Volume. Basically aftermath of the last Volume and complete setup for the next one. While healing, Erica knows that Charlotte Cutter is on her trail and ready to kill her, as commanded by the Council. Before that, the police get involved and she is arrested. Cutter hopes to make a game out of it, so some cops are attacked, but Erica escapes. She then sets the stage for the battle (which will be in the next Volume). Two other points to make: 1) There is a duplicitype of Erica running around killing children. She will definitely have to be dealt with. 2) Erica stole Charlotte's doll while in the police station. LOL
Looking forward to the last Volume, as this story has been fantastic so far. Sucks I have to wait till next year. Recommend.
Pace is slowing down here. Everyone prepares for battle, plans misfire and new ones are made. The final showdown awaits.
It certainly could have been told in fewer issues but I don’t really mind. The characters are still good with well written interactions and dialogues so I never feel bored. Erica is shown diminished and scared which gives her character some breadth. Riqui is developped too and I like her more and more. Cutter is a bit overplayed though. She could be terrifying but falls short. There’s also behind-the-scenes politics at play at the House of Slaughter; it seem interesting and I hope this subplot will lead somewhere.
Art and colours are on the same level than the previous volume: excellent.
This series just stays great! Not much to say without giving anything away, but if you've gotten this far, there's no way you're not going to read this one.
