The Victorian Mystery Megapack: 27 Classic Mystery Tales

Rate this book
The theme of this Megapack is classic mystery and crime fiction from the Victorian era. We have taken the liberty of extending the qualifying publication dates to the end of World War I, since that event marked more of a turning point in world literature than the advent of the Edwardian Age. Certainly the spirit of Victorian crime fiction continued beyond Queen Victoria. This volume contains 25 stories and 2 bonus novels, offering hours of reading pleasure.

Entertaining mystery listening 🎶🔰

I purchased this Megapack e-book as part of a promotion by Amazon.

This Megapack contains 25 novellas and 2 novels by various authors. Most authors have two or more stories. As with all multiple story, box 📦 sets, and Megapacks you will like some stories better than others but that is normal. I was overall please with the selection of stories but then I like quick reads and British 🏰👑mystery.

I would recommend this Megapack to readers of British 🏰👑 Victorian Mysteries. 2023 👒😀😡💘🏡

I continue to work on cleaning up ☝ my kindle fire 🔥 but then I keep finding authors with free books.

Happy Holidays.

tedium saved by Sherlock Holmes

The first part of the book is nothing but paragraphs copy and pasted from other complete stories. That’s right. No stories just random excerpts from stories.
The comes The Moonstone. Classic it may be but my goodness it gets very boring after a while. The actual moonstone doesn’t even appear in most of the story.
Then comes the last story. A true classic and so enjoyable to read. Maybe read the complete Sherlock Holmes and don’t waster time on this yawn fest.

Most stories were good.

There was one or two stories that were long and borring. Rest were entertaining. Enjoyed the short stories great for bedtime.

I would say there was a variety of stories, some good, some not bad, and some very quickly read so I could move on and forget them. The actual Victorian Mystery couldn't by any stretch of the imagination be called a 'short' story - it went on for ages and ages and ages, and while I like historical mysteries and mysteries with twists, this one took an awful long time to get to the point as there were so many characters introduced chapter after chapter. It was about a missing diamond and went into who could have taken it, why that person would have taken it, and who else had motive and opportunity to take it. I had to finish the story (I started so I'd finish) of course but found myself cursing under my breath every time I went back to find out about this "bloody missing diamond", to the point where it became a chore and towards the end I wasn't sure I really cared amymore who took it or why. However, I got to the end and without being too uncharitable, I will only indicate that it wasn't one of Charles Dickens' finest.

SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE

His book was wonderful. There's something for every mystery lover here. Some are murder, some are theft and anything in between. They're all good, although at least for me, some were better than others.
My favorite was close to the end of the book and involved the stealing of a precious diamond, that diamond being left to someone else in the family and being stolen again, and there's some romance in that one too. No matter what your preferences are, you're sure to find something in here to capture your interest.

4.5 stars. Some brilliant stories, some half-duds, but mainly very good. It's not exactly the traditional anthology though, given some of its contents are actually full-length novels (The Moonstone, The Hound of the Baskervilles)! So don't think you'll finish it as quickly as the usual; it took me a month.

AMAZING! What a great compilation of stories, such great variety but I really really loved the Sherlock Holmes parodies. It really underscored what a huge impact those books had on popular culture.

Obviously dated style, but as with most collections of short stories, there are some gems in the mix.
