Wildcat, Jasper's ex is back and in London looking for her sister, who ran off with a lord who lives there. I really wanted to know what Jasper was doing when he was M.I.A. in The Girl with the Iron Touch and was happy the author wrote a novella to tell us where he was. I loved Cat in the second book and loved her even more in this one. You get insight about Jasper and Cat's feelings for each other in this book and more about their failed relationship which I also was thrilled to learn about. Overall I really liked it but it wasn't as good as the other 2 novellas.

Jasper is one of my favorites from the Steampunk Chronicles!
I loved this novella because it shows what Jasper was doing when the others were looking for Emily. He and Cat are great. Cat gives some more representation of people of color to the series and I appreciated how Cross pointed out the prejudices against her because she is biracial. Overall I loved this but as always I wish I had more.

I really enjoyed visiting this world Cross created, I have always loved Renn and I liked learning more about Wildcat. I do hope Cross writes another book for the series although that does not seem in the cards. I thought it was worth 1.99 since my local library did not have it. But I love the series, if you are not a big fan of it or Renn then maybe you can live without it but I couldn't.

This one felt much more like the Steampunk Chronicles! I love Jasper and Wildcat and reading about them and their relationship felt so good. It sucked me right into the story of their search for Wildcats sister Sparrow.

I love the references to the main books!

This was my least favorite in the series so far.

The plot was pretty shallow and not very well developed. The book just seemed like an excuse to write romantic scenes between Jasper and Cat, which were kind of cheesy and awkward.

This one was okay, but as good as previous books and prequels.

This was by far my favorite. I love the interaction between Jasper and Cat. Playful , sassy and loving. They support each others weakness with strength. Their relationship is the adventure that pulls you in. Bring back Sparrow and Blackhurst in a longer book with Jas and Cat.

Hello. I am ghost, and I have come to haunt Kady Cross. I died inside reading the steampunk chronicles. This was my last one of the whole series. I now seek revenge for my death and brain damage.

This novella is short and useless. I think Kady Cross just wanted to write smut, put this together, and called it a book.

There are no wild adventures as the title suggests. It is just romance and Cat and Jasper looking for her sister. But the pacing is all off so romance counts for ~80%. (I have a feeling this was done on purpose)

Cat could have been a good character. She was one of the only likable characters in this whole series. Just add some more personality beyond the loving Jasper thing.

It is also creepy how Jasper Cat in the car but it never says she did back. There was an overwhelming lack of consent and communication.

As a ghost of literature past, please don’t read this horrible thing so you do not turn into a ghost as well. It was a painful process.

This counts for the 2017 Book Bingo Challenge for the square A Book Under 150 Pages-- this book is a novella that's 51 pages.

I'm just meh on this one. It doesn't really add that much to the series. It takes place during the third book, when Emily is missing, and seeks to answer what Jasper was doing during the book. It's pretty much just a love fest between Jasper Renn and Wildcat, with the excuse of Wildcat coming to London to find her sister that ran away.
Jasper and Wildcat had already had a thing before, so their love story had kind of already happened and this novella just put us in the middle of it. I don't think you have to read this to enjoy the series overall. If you're a stickler for reading everything in the series, then go ahead and read it. It's not an awful novella, it just was meh for me. It doesn't really add anything to the series overall.

I kind of love the idea of an American cowboy in steampunk England. It gives the storyline a little more flavour, but mostly I think that the idea of Jasper just sounds kind of cute. He’s sweet, a bit of a charmer, and I can imagine his swagger as he waltzes around with a cowboy hat on. It helps that Cross’ vivid descriptions create a world where it is easy to imagine Renn running around the streets of London (literally).

When Cat makes another appearance in The Girl with the Iron Touch, I was admittedly excited. I love when my favourite characters find themselves a perfect significant other. And Cat seemed kind of perfect for Jasper, plus a fairly enthralling character that I want to discover more about. Having a novella that actually investigates this woman (and her relationship with Jasper) further, just completely made my day.

Talk about a misleading title. Even the title to this post needs help. This wasn't so much a wild adventure as it was the chase by Wildcat of her sister, Sparrow. Sparrow's Flight might have been a better title. Or Wildcat's Chase. Or almost anything that involved the ladies and not Jasper.jasper renn And it certainly wasn't a wild adventure. If helping Cat visit 2 places to find her sister is a wild adventure, then I lead a much more interesting life than I thought.

That's not to say I didn't enjoy this little adventure. I did. I enjoyed it thoroughly. It was a cute little insight into a character I didn't think we got enough of in the full length features - Wildcat. But if Ms. Cross thinks this little teaser is a wild adventure for Jasper than I feel sorry for Jasper because he must not have much a a future in store.

The crux of this story is that Wildcat hops on a ship for London, in search of her sister, Sparrow, who has left with a man for London. Wildcat ends up asking Jasper for help, and they set out to find Sparrow. We get a little background of the relationship between Jasper and Wildcat, and they admit their feelings for one another. Meanwhile, this is what is going on during the events of The Girl with the Iron Touch.

Let's start with this fundamental fact: I love the Steampunk Chronicles. I have loved it ever since reading the Finley prequel. I even thought she beats out Cassandra Clare in the sub-genre (seehttps://seriestracker.wordpress.com/y...). And I was totally bummed when I thought that the last might be the end of the road for this series. So, despite my stated hatred for ebook only mini-novels, I was still looking forward to reading this.

So the other shoe that needs to drop? The title is such a misnomer. It wasn't really a wild adventure and it wasn't really about Jasper. And if you disagree because you think that Jasper admitting he loves Wildcat is the adventure, then don't talk to me. I refuse to believe that is what the author was contemplating when writing the title to this short story. I am not sure Wildcat's crossing of the pond should be considered a wild adventure. Maybe her shopping spree was, considering her personality, but certainly not the trip to London or her search for her sister. And the later isn't really such a wild adventure since it was solved in such short order (the potential to turn it into a wild adventure with Jasper probably would have required a full length book, which would have been ok with this reader). Even Jasper's role here wasn't so great that I would have titled this book based on him. We see so little of him or his abilities (although I love what we do see - even if it is fleeting or too fast... ;) ) But I guess that Wildcat, even after Clockwork Collar where we see a fair amount of her, is too collateral a character to base the title on. But I would have picked it up just the same, as long as I knew it belonged to this series.

There is awesome in this little story. And a good deal of it. We get to see Jasper and Wildcat in action, we see their mutations. Jasper is a character I really wish we knew better and we see some of him. Wildcat is an awesome addition and her sister Sparrow would be a welcome addition as a series regular as well. I am starting to really enjoy these stories that occur simultaneously but are separate books (or in this case, min-books) because it lets me adore the characters and story line even more. I will note that reading this without the benefit of the other stories might leave some readers a little lost as there is clearly the presumption that folks are familiar with this world and its workings (do you know what a velocycle is?)

There is a ton of atmosphere - I can read a sentence and have a scene, in great detail, pictured in my mind. This is an extension of the wonderful world that the author has built. It was a great little refresher and reminder of why I love this series. Don't get me wrong, I still have issues with the need for these little stories in the first place, but the fact that this was really an "extra" with out key plot points for the other books that came after, was wonderful. I can't wait to finish the next. And I see that there is another full installment coming - The Girl with the Windup Heart. I assume that this is about Mila, the girl that Dandy delivers to the big baddies in Steampunk Chronicles #3 (and I am now also seeing in the Dandy-half book that I am reading). This was a great tie in to S.C.3 because we saw Jasper and Cat run off in that, but we didn't know why. Now we do.

As always with this book, there is great imagery, captivating prose and lovable characters. I am glad that I can dive right into The Dark Discovery of Jack Dandy, and that I won't have to wait too long for Girl with the Windup Heart. Love the Steampunk Chronicles! I guess they weren't loosing steam after all (https://seriestracker.wordpress.com/2...) - and I am happy that my assessment was so wrong!

p.s. updated the series page and added one for this little short.

This was a great short story. Jasper is such a strong side character and I enjoyed having a small adventure with him. I especially enjoyed a new/old relationship budding and growing. Wasnt my favorite short story in the series, but i absolutely enjoyed it. Very eager for the last installment in the series!

This novella was a great back story for Jasper Renn, the fastest gun in the west. We learn how he got those powers and the betrayals he experienced before crossing paths with the "team". Most people would recommend reading this book at the beginning of the series or at least before the book that introduces Jasper, but I liked learning about him after I had already met him.

Oh I really wanted this story. I wanted to know exactly what Jasper had been up to when he was off on his own while everyone else was looking for Emily. This perfectly fills in those blanks and is such a lovely little romance with Cat. They have all the history and I love seeing them work things out together.

The novella relates the events that bring Jasper and Cat together. Her sister runs away to join the circus -- yeah really -- across the ocean. Cat needs Jasper's help to find her and take her back home. But both sisters decide to stay. We rarely get a glimpse of the relationship between Cat and Jasper. This novella provided one.

I can definitely see what the hype was all about a few years ago when this series came out. I remember adding these books to my TBR list but didn’t really get a chance to actually pick them up until now. And damn, these books were intense. The characters and the plot all got to me and I enjoyed every minute of reading these books.

Even though the book clearly followed Finley as the main character, I felt that there were incidences where she took the backseat in terms of the role of a lead protagonist. This was especially true in the last book where I felt that she shared the lead role with Mila. I would have enjoyed it more if there were a bit more consistency in terms of the roles that everyone had. In the last book, I definitely felt as if the story was split up between saving Griffin and the romance between Mila and Jack Dandy. They were so at odds with each other that honestly I was a bit confused as to why the author didn’t simply separate the two obvious major plots into two books rather than stick it all in one. For me, it made things more convoluted that could have been easily avoided.

However, other than the above mentioned incidence, I did thoroughly enjoy all of the books. I liked how each of the books sort of focused on a separate couple but still clearly had Finley as the main person to follow. The plot was clearly defined and I enjoyed the adventures from saving someone from an American gang in NY to defeating an evil ghost-like person in this supernatural element. There were definitely a lot of intrigue and nail-biting on my end.

Out of all of the characters, I actually liked Jack Dandy the most. There was just something about his character that really enticed me. Probably just his bad boy self… But really though, I thought Jack Dandy was probably the most interesting character because he was the most mysterious. He was somehow always able to help them in times of need yet also ran his own criminal operations. He was also somehow always a gentleman yet at the same time, he really wasn’t. He was just a lot of contradictions which was why he was the character that stood out the most to me.

I enjoyed reading about Finley and everyone else but in a way, they were more 2D compared to Jack. They were all straight and narrow and even though I did find them all well developed, I didn’t think they had an overwhelming depth to them. They were always willing to help each other out and that actually made them a bit predictable because I was always able to guess what their next steps were.

Anyways, I really enjoyed the world building as well – the whole steampunk genre really appeals to me because they seem much more modern than they really are since they’re all technically in the Victorian era. I especially enjoyed reading about the Aether world as well as the organites in the real world. The one thing that really stood out to me were the automatons and how life-like they were. It’s like the AI in our current world.

Overall, I like the series – I thought that the characters and plot were well-written for the most part. This would be a good series to those who enjoy steampunk with a dash of supernatural elements.

Jasper Renn was always one of my favourites in the series, and I loved how he got his own feature novella!

This novella takes place in the midst of the beginning of The Girl with the Iron Touch, when Emily first goes missing. In that novel, Jasper himself gone at the beginning, and we get to see exactly what he was up to. Wildcat McGuire has journeyed from New York all the way to London in search of her sister, who has run away and is hiding somewhere in London. She enlists the help of Jasper, and given their romantic history, Jasper can't say no...

After the ending of The Girl in the Clockwork Collar, my heart was torn for Jasper. He went through quite a lot. This novella bridges the two books, and lets you see Jasper's recovery. I really enjoyed Jasper's uncertainty, as it was very human. But his uncertainty didn't affect his abilities at all, and he still remained his deadly self the entire time. There's quite a few steamy moments in this novella, which of course went straight to my heart. <3

In the series, I wasn't that big of a fan of Wildcat, but I really liked her in this novella. We get to see her backstory, and the lengths she's willing to go to save her sister. Cat, originally living a life of crime, is completely different in this book, trying to be a better person. She too is dealing with uncertainty, as she's trying to find a reason to stay in London with Jasper, but has to take her sister back to New York. Needless to say that she and Jasper help each other out in that category. I like her a lot more after reading this novella, and I can safely say that I'm satisfied with her being with Jasper, even if my heart continues to break.

This is a quick novella of both great action and romance. I'd strongly recommend it if you're a fan of Jasper Renn, and want to see his own happy ending to the story!

The Wild Adventure of Jasper Renn is a short novella that takes place during Kady Cross' The Girl with the Iron Touch! I love this series and Jasper has definitely been one of my fave characters since he first stepped onto the page. His heartache over Mia and all that happened between them broke my heart as well, it seemed Jasper might never find what Griffin has with Finley.

Then there's Cat, half black, half white and has the abilities of her namesake. She's an oddity, much like her sister Sparrow--you can guess what abilities she has--who has gone missing. Cat has come to London in order to find her sister, but she doesn't know the city well and she needs the help of the man who broke her heart, one Jasper Renn. She's leery of trusting him again, but a part of her does still care for him, much to her dismay.

The two eventually work out a way to work together in order to find Sparrow. And along the way, old feelings get rekindled and explored! I was very pleased with this tiny tale from Kady Cross's Steampunk Chronicles! Jasper is definitely a fave character as I mentioned. He's quite witty and funny! I was glad to see him find his bit of happiness as he's been in a funk since Mei died and betrayed him.

It was quite a fast paced read as most novellas tend to be! Since it's been too long since I read The Girl with the Iron Touch, I cannot explicitly remember Jasper doing this during those particular events, but it's no matter really! I'm sure when I read The Girl with the Windup Heart, enough of my memory of the previous book will return!

This was a fun read that was doable in one sitting and I would highly recommend it to fans of The Steampunk Chronicles.

In this companion novella to "The Girl with the Iron Touch," American cowboy Jasper Renn faces a challenging situation that even his lightning-fast skills may not help him escape. After surviving a series of events in New York City, Jasper is determined to create a brighter future for himself and his talented group of friends. When their mechanical genius, Emily, is kidnapped, he embarks on a perilous journey into the dark corners of England to rescue her.

However, complications arise as Jasper's former flame, Wildcat, intensively searches London for her missing sister. Despite the dangers, Jasper can't deny the strong attraction he still feels for Wildcat. Their pursuit leads them into the heart of an extraordinary circus in the city. Jasper's loyalties and the path he envisions for himself are about to face unforeseen challenges and tests beyond his imagination.

Renn and Cat make quite the intriguing pair, their chemistry sizzling with an undeniable attraction. Renn's cowboy charisma adds a unique and alluring dimension to his character, making him not just a hero but a heartthrob. Their relationship in this novella fits seamlessly with their respective personalities, creating a dynamic that is both captivating and memorable. The story manages to capture the essence of these characters and their world, making it an enjoyable and engaging read for fans of their adventures.
