This is a summary and review from my 8 1/2 year old... please be kind in the comments, thank you :)
SUMMARY from an 8 1/2 year old: "There is a bat that flies around being happy and then he likes to go upside down in trees. His name is Echo. While hanging upside down in a tree, he saw a man that was wearing a black cloak and the man had a pickax in his bag. He made a circle out of one big rock. And he said, "Ckaaaa, Ckaaaa!" and a crow came swooping down. And then the man said to the crow, "Did you find it?" And the crow shook his head no. And the bat, who witnessed this strange conversation between the cloaked man and the crow, was too scared to move or fly away. Echo thought, "What are they looking for?" And then the cloaked man and crow spotted Echo and they tried to capture him, but luckily for him, three kids were looking in the window and said to Echo, "Come this way." And Echo wasted no time and followed them and got away from the cloaked man and his crow.
This is a mystery.
Echo tells the kids how the crow continues to follow him and that the cloaked man is looking for a map. So the children and Echo go looking for the map too. That is the mystery - looking for the map. And while they were looking for the map at the graveyard, they find a very helpful Pirate Ghost, who leads them to where the map is. But I'm not going to tell you where.
Once they had the map, the kids got on the computer to further find out what the map was all about - and they discovered that the map is for another mystery! The next morning, the cloaked man found them and that he was still looking for the map. When he saw that they had already found it, he tried to get it. But the Pirate Ghost scared him and the crow away. Before the cloaked man ran away, the kids noticed that he was carrying a box with another mystery in it! But figuring out the map and what was in that box is all for the next book!"
8 1/2 year old's thoughts about Treasure in the Graveyard... "I kinda liked this book. What I like is that they were able to solve the mystery and I like mysteries. I really liked that there was a lot of cool pictures in the book to go with the story. I wish that there were more books to this series to keep going since it ended with another mystery. What I didn't really like about the book is the color of the book-cover, it's too dark. I give this book, Treasure in the Graveyard, 3 1/2 to 4 stars!"
Butuh asupan misteri untuk kawan kecil (a.k.a anak/keponakan)?
I initially watched this TV series when I was going through a difficult time and was having trouble sleeping. It was so silly and sweet with just a touch of fun spooky, mysteries. I love bats and obvious fell completely in love with Bat Pat (his name in the tv show).
Once I realized the show is based on this book series it was a no brainer. It is cute, it is colourful, it has the same spooky, silly, mystery vibes. I love them.
Since they took the show off Netflix I am unable to find anywhere I can stream or even buy the DVDs. If anyone has any ideas let me know!
What would you do if you helped resuce a bat from a rogue raven only to learn he could speak, read and write? According to Becca, Michael and Tyler Silver, it's absolutely cool!
A mystery begins when a happy go lucky bat named Echo witnesses a very creepy looking grave digger poking around in an abandoned cemetery. Having been spotted he is literally flying for his life when a sinister raven chases him. Luckily he is rescued by 3 kids. The newly founded team band together, after a ghostly break in at Mrs. Trumph's home, to solve a creepy mystery of Fogville. What they discover is the hooded creep that's been snooping around the graveyard is actually an escaped convict from Black Gate Penitentiary. His name is Victor Mancino, a.k.a. Whiteskull. It's up to the team to stop him from digging up the treasure from his last heist.
Young readers will get a kick out of this team of sleuths. Quirky characters and a very smart bat make this a fun read. Creepy and colorful illustrations bring the town and characters to life. If you are having trouble getting your boys to read, they will enjoy this quick and easy read. There is no doubt girls will love it too. The back pages have mazes, word scrabble and crossword puzzles so kids can have fun revisiting the story to solve these puzzles. Parents and teachers will approve of this ghostly read.
Background: Echo, the bat, has seen something suspicious and terrifying in his cemetery, but is too scared to fide out more. He meets the Bat Pack also known as the Silver kids, who unlike him are brave and want to get to the bottom of the strange occurrences in town. Echo and the Bat Pack take it upon themselves to solve the mystery of the ghost man and what he is up to.
Review: Super cute and stunning mystery for young readers. Roberto Pavanello wrote a wonderful book with Treasure in the Graveyard. As an adult, I was kept on my toes and the mystery was very fun to follow. The illustrations that go along with the book are beautiful and vibrant, any young reader will take to those, if not the story too. The characters are likable and can relate to children and Echo the bat is smart and adventurous even though he is scared at times. Wonderful read! This is the first book in the Echo and the Bat Pack series, and I highly recommend it.
Capstone Young Readers recommends this read for ages 6-8 years and reading levels of grades 2-3.
“Treasure in the Graveyard” is a delightful children’s tale “starring” as narrator, Echo-a bat who writes stories, and who lives in a crypt in a quiet abandoned graveyard. Echo has three human helpers whom he refers to collectively as “the Bat Pack.” Delectable illustrations fill the story, helping identify Becca, Michael, and Tyler Silver; their parents; Echo the bat; and their new nemesis and his familiar. The plotline has its scary elements, but not inappropriately so for middle-graders, the book’s target audience. The story has a logical, sensible, progression, so that the young readers will not be left frightened; and word puzzles are also included at the end to stretch literacy skills. I read the book along with my 3.5 year old grandson, who very much enjoyed the story and inquiring about the illustrations. I promised him I would acquire other books in the “Bat Pack” series.
I was hoping to love this series but (as an adult) I'm disappointed. The mystery wasn't surprising at all, and I absolutely cannot stand that the "extras" at the back of the book are mazes and word puzzles. As a book being added to my library for use by many patrons, this is not something I'm a fan of... at all.
One thing I did like is that each character had a strength. I loved it when Tyler (who we knew only as lazy and messy) turned out to be a computer genius. Cool twist; everyone has their talents!
Other than that, I did like the colorful illustrations and I can see my 2nd/3rd grade readers enjoying the story. I just didn't care for the so-called "mystery" as an older reader, and I truly don't think that just because a book is written for kids it has to have a totally obvious solution.
From the series Echo and the Batpack. the publisher says this series need not be read in a particular order, but this one does serve well as #1. Echo is a very educated bat who once lived in a library. He now resides in an old crypt at the cemetery. One night as he is trying to write a story he is disrupted by a commotion nearby. An intruder was in the graveyard digging up graves. And to make matters worse he as accompanied by a large scary raven. Echo, being a bit of a scaredy-bat, took flight. Luckily he stumbled and crashed his way into the Silver home where the three kids took care of him. They even helped him solve the mystery of why the guy was digging in the cemetery. This is a very fun and entertaining little mystery for 1st-3rd graders, with just a touch of spooky.
My six year old (she is a very high level reader) LOVES this book. Carries it everywhere and re-reads it. Plus loves the rest in the series! Great for those kids who like spooky things written in a not so scary and fun way! Echo is a darling, funny bat!
Cute "scary" book for early readers...though I had a bit of a hard time embracing the sort of real but mainly fantasy feel of the story. I will continue to recommend this to kids who aren't quite old enough for Geronimo but still want a good, colorful mystery.
