The Notebook of Doom v7

The gang is headed off to summer camp for the week to learn survival skills. Shortly after arriving they realize there is a monster there!

The seventh book in the doom series. Alexander and his friends are off to summer camp together. The Ranger running this camp is an odd character that adds to the young campers' weird experience. By the end of the book, the trio of friends adds a new entry into the monster notebook. Excellent illustrations add to the story.

I’ve been reading these books to my son. We were given a book 1, 4, and 6 as a gift from a friend and with the library being shut down last year we started reading through some of the chapter books we had. We both love this series. So many books geared towards boys deal with things I’m not ready for him to deal with. These books didn’t have that. Not only did he enjoy hearing them but I was interested in finding out what happens next. Over the last year I have been adding the books to our collection because they will definitely be books that get read again.

Another fun installment. Perfect for summer as the SSMP goes to summer camp and encounters zombie snowmen. As always, the right amount of danger, not too scary at all. Fun read. This series remains a family favorite.

Andrew (a.k.a. Salamander) and his two friends in the S.S.M.P. (Super Secret Monster Patrol) are headed for summer camp. A kind of goofy camp leader welcomes them and leads them in summer survival activities on the first day. But on the second day a surprise blizzard switches things to winter survival skills. The most important skill? Survive the snombies and the ice monster! Left to their own devices when the camp leader goes sledding, the children are attacked by snombies, snowmen created by the clicking of a giant ice monster the size of a house. Three of the clever campers are able to rescue everyone and return the camp to it's naturally sweaty temperatures.

This is a fun book for new chapter book readers. It is VERY entertaining in a fashion that is likely to appeal to boys in particular. The humor is geared to boys but girls are included with Nikki who is a little bit of a monster herself. Rip's name is an example. A double entendre. R.I.P. (Rest in peace). The kids are the heroes of the story and it is their quick thinking and courage that save the day. A fact that all children will love! Andrew, the main character, is brave soul and his friends are stalwart as well, making them great examples for young kids. Kids will also enjoy the somewhat absent minded and foolish camp leader who adds an element of humor to the book. The story is not at all scary although one of the campers (Leo) is easily frightened and provides a companion for spooked children to relate to. A good solid early reader book.

{My thoughts} – It’s a wonderful day to start summer camp! Alexander, Rip and Nikki get to experience Camp Gloamy on this fabulous but overly hot day! Alex is the last to get there and he is told to go and join the others at the camp fire. He ends up getting lost trying to find it, but his friends find him first and of course they were lost too! Eventually they all find their way to the camp fire and summer camp begins.

All the campers quickly learn that their ranger guide has an insane taste in food and no one is really interested in eating it. They also learn that there is an odd clink sound that is extremely disruptive to the nature atmosphere. Alex is the one that soon discovers they are dealing with Snombies by going through the monster notebook. It takes a little longer for them to figure out the other bad monster that they are going up against, the one that is making that dreadful clink noise.

Rip does some quick thinking and he gets rid of most the Snombies, it isn’t quite as easy to get rid of the other monster. The three friends put their heads together and eventually come up with a solution in which they can attempt to win the battle over the new monster!

This was a fast paced book, once it got into it’s actually story-line. I enjoyed it as much as I have enjoyed the others in the series. I look forward to reading the next book in the series very soon!

The SSMP members are off to summer camp. Though it is sweltering hot, Alexander somehow gets hit by a snowball, and the campers keep hearing weird clinking sounds. What monster waits in the woods?

Another fun adventure with the SSMP. It is nice to see them get out of town for an adventure. The snombies are a creative monster that shouldn't scare any kids. They are easily dispatched, and just threaten to get you really cold. The camp counselor in this is one special cupcake. I can see why he lives out in the woods. Recommended to lower grade fantasy lovers who think they want to read something a little creepy (but may not be ready for anything seriously creepy).

Alexander is sent to summer camp, but it won't be so bad since his best friends Rip and Nikki will be there too. And it's a good thing they are, because they need to solve a mystery and save the campers from monsters at the camp. This is a fun mystery with not-too-scary monsters for new chapter book readers. Readers will like how the young characters take charge and save the day while the grown-ups are off somewhere being clueless. Recommended gr. 2-4

For anyone trying to interest their children in reading, this is a great series to get them hooked. The language is simple, but not pandering. The stories are fast-paced, so no one could possibly get bored. The illustrations are also delightful.

This was the most exciting installment of the series yet. My children were gasping in shock when the snombies attacked, and transfixed by the canoe chase. We really love this series and can't wait for the next one!

Fans of the Notebook of Doom series will not be disappointed. This book fits well with the series in terms of silly monsters that are not too scary for readers. A great book to read during the hot summer days.
