I have been a lifelong writer and storyteller. Salem, Oregon is where I spent my formative years and I graduated from Willamette University. After college, I spent a decade living in Portland, Oregon where I worked in advertising, game design, and technology.

I've written young adult and children's books for Scholastic, Little Brown Books For Young Readers and Katherine Tegen Books/ HarperCollins Publishers.

I've been fortunate enough to have had some bestselling series work: The Land of Elyon, Atherton, Elliot’s Park, 39 Clues, and Skeleton Creek. Here's a fun note...the books have been translated into approximately two dozen languages. Currently I'm developing a few new-media projects. Check out DARK EDEN to experience this type of cross-platform project.

When I'm not writing or creating a story, I spend my free time supporting literacy campaigns and community organizations, fly fishing, playing basketball and tennis, doing crosswords, watching movies, dabbling in video games, reading (lots), and (more than anything else) spending time with my wife and two daughters.

Well, the Skeleton Creek series has come to a close. Maybe. In a year or two, there might be a few more. Carman left the door open. The plot of The Raven is very similar to The Crossbones: Sarah on a cross-country road trip visiting famously haunted places for clues, while Ryan stays in Skeleton Creek and does the background work for her.

The tie-in videos this time were a little better than in the previous book, but still not quite up to the standard of the first Skeleton Creek videos. I couldn't quite buy into the entire storyline of the Crossbones itself, so that was an issue. I get that they're a secret society, but I don't get why and how they do the things they do, nor why they ended up based out of Skeleton Creek. Maybe I missed something, I don't know.

It can be pretty creepy still, particularly in the "on site" videos. And it is cool that it brings in real places, some of which are not very well known. The actual intended audience will probably eat this up and wind up fascinated with the places in the videos and, hopefully, with Poe.

heres a list of people I wouldn't mind getting abducted by:
1.Veronica Roth
2.Rick Riordan
3.Derek Landy
4.The Janoskians
5.Peter Carman
6.Barack Obama

(Okay, yeah sure I would also like to be kidnapped by Justin Bieber but onlt so I could beat the crap out of him)

Going back to the review.

The first thing we must ask ourself while reading any of the Skeleton Creek books is ''what would I do?'' Because I had seen so may reviews saying shit like ''oh if it was me, Id just tell the police or my parents straight away, Ryan and Sarah are both stupid characters'' well...... from what people are saying I can honestly say that humanity is full of bullshit. If a madman was after you then yes you do go to an adult but when a madman is after you becaouse your trying to solve a mistery then you dont. Why? Because you just don't, where is the fun in that? What are you like 5? (becaouse your trying to solve a mistery, you dumbass, stopping in the middle won't solve it, and if you don't solve it it might never be solved, now do you get it?)

The next thing we have to ask ourself is ''how would I react?'' becaouse some people think that when your scared shitless your thoughts are ''hmmmm.....shit! I forgot to feed my fish!''
insted of ''hmmmmmm....shit! there is a dude with a huge ax!'' so yeah, dont go around thinking Ryan is a stupid character becaouse in fact we'd react the same way, and the author wanted the book to sound like a journal and I think he did a great job at it.

Now about the videos. I have to addmit, the thing that made me buy those books are the videos (and the funky blurb at the back of those funky plastic boxes, duh!) becaouse I thought its a brilliant idea. Read the book to watch the viedeos. Straight forward deal. The codes I though very clever and kinda creepy and every time I saw them I ran as fast as I could to the laptop to watch the videos. Now about the videos. I had mixed feeling about the videos in ''the crossbones'' and ''the raven''.
What I didn't like about them was the fackt that clearly the actress who played Sara did no longer participate in the makings of those videos, they replaced her with a crappy excuse of how she didnt want anyone to recognise her and kill her, the thing that I did like were all those documentries and the videos from the Apostle.

Now about the book. As I said earlier on, Peter Carman wanted this book to look like Ryan himself was writing it. The honesty on every page pulled me in and, boy, it was HARD to put it down! So hard you could use the idea itself to cut through dimonds! Sarah and Ryan, even though are both the main characters arn't exactly described to us, Sarah is simply shown in her videos and we get to know Ryan through his writing (Im not the only one who noticed right?) which I though was great and I was like ''coinsidence? I dont thinks so!''

If you are reading this it must only mean one thing: you are thinking about reading this book (or you simlpy have nothing to do so instead of helping out in shelters like me, you sit all day and read other peoples reviews just to fill in that empty hole at the pit of your stumach and feed your brain with lies that will finish you of in the end......or your simply thinking of reading this book). Im not going to tell you what books to read and what Religions to follow or who to follow on tumbler becaouse I simply don't know you. Your reading this probably of somewhere Im hoping to go for my sumer holidays thats hours away from my home, but what I can tell you is that Patric Carman is a great man whose a true master of words. He can give you the answear for a question without you even knowing. He can make you think, hope and dream in a way no other auther can. He opens up your imagination and allows you to conect with his writing in your own way (no pressure! yay!) and I know all of that sounds really poematic (I haven't even tried!) but If I got to pick one person from the list of people who I wouldnt mind if they abducted me I say it be Peter Carman.

P.S Nah, scratch that. I'd pick the Janoskians, those guys are awesome!
P.S.S No offenc Peter!

This wrapped up the series nicely, and ended the story on a positive note. I don't know if the formatting for the fifth one will be my cup of tea, so I've decided to end my time with the series on a high note.

The format of the story being journals overall is a decent idea. It is a bit half baked at times, and downright implausible that a kid would be writing down everything like this, but the narrative kind of buys you into it, so it isn't too bad. The videos overall were great for the first two books, but dropped a bit in quality for the last two. You can tell they didn't have the original cast, and tried to hide it with reasons for characters voices changing that were a bit half baked. However, this didn't really affect the quality of the videos. They're supposed to be a bit over the top, and the added aspect of edited videos sold the new format they took from Book two to Book Three.

Overall, this series was very ambitious with its story. Mixing two medias like this, especially for a children's book can read a bit gimmicky, but I found it super fascinating and more well done than i expected. There were vague nonmentions in the books to events, and parts of the videos that made me roll my eyes, but overall you can tell this was a passion project for the author. A lot of time and care was put into the execution of this series, and I'd give it a solid 8 out of 10.

The genre dips from supernatural to mystery thriller, but that change seems logical, due to circumstances changing in the story. The guy playing the Apostle, Eric Rohde, stayed with the series the whole time, can you can just tell how much fun he had filming his segments.

Its also like INSANE that this series came out in 2009. Analog Horror fans would really love this series. A perfect, short spooky read. :)

Skeleton Creek The Raven by Patrick Carman is a series story of mystery and a realistic fiction story set in a mountain town in Sumpter Oregon. This town is called Skeleton Creek filled with hidden mysteries only Ryan and Sarah and a little help from Fitz the other best friend of Ryan could figure out. The theme is be careful of what your doing because you might get yourself in harm’s or death’s way. Ryan, Sarah, and Fitz work together to find out the final mystery of the crossbones. In the final trail Sarah has to go around the U.S since Sarah is going to film camp and she finds most of the messages from the Raven and Ryan and Sarah decode it. For external conflict Ryan and Sarah have not to try not get killed by the Raven. The internal conflict is with Ryan and himself. Ryan has internal conflict because he doesn't think he can do anything good and just thinks he will die. I loved this book it has 240 pages of thrilling stuff going on as the author concluded the suspenseful series of Skeleton Creek with an unbelievable ending that you have to read to find out. I would recommend this book to series lover, mystery fanatics, and people who loves suspense any gender would like this book the age range would be 11-17 I would rate this series 5 stars.

This book is very fascinating and a great educator this book is packed with amazing surprises and mysteries and a little scare along the way so be sure to read it. So many series has been titled to this book and so many problems to deal with for example Ryan feels like hes letting down Sarah by falling asleep and letting her do all the work especially since shes on the road to discover something extremely interesting that i will not spoil for you because it will be extra special for u. Also because you feel like its you trying to solve the case and like its you side by side next to Ryan and Sarah in every adventure and mystery and feel like if your along in every prize ride and thrilling case with the two detectives.

Skeleton Creek is about a boy named Ryan McCray and his best friend Sarah and out of boredom, have decided to uncover the mysteries of their home town Skeleton Creek. He goes on to interview elders of the area. He takes a step to far and, well, that would spoiler the story.

Anyway this is a great book in my opinion. This is a great mystery book with some great comedy which cane make anyone chuckle. Ryan is a great character with a lot of interest in his town after just doing a little bit of research. Hes a funny guy and is my favorite character in the whole book. The books is in the format of a journal and is told in Ryan's point of view. The author is able to let the emotions out of the readers in character struggle, twist and turns in the book and much more.

I am relieved that this series has come to a close. The first two books (which should have been one book) are novel and innovative, but books three and four feel like something that got tacked on later because we might as well capitalize off of the success of the first two. The same gimmicks and tricks are pulled out and dusted off, but the Crossbones is completely transformed from what it was originally presented as. With a few sentences, the author obliterates everything that's come before and paves the way for a brand new direction. In all, it felt forced, and I ended up feeling a bit cheated out of my experiences with the first two books. I'd recommend these to younger readers who enjoyed the first two books and who will probably be more forgiving in their enthusiasm.

While Sarah goes on a road trip to find the objects/clues to solve the puzzle, Ryan is figuring out the locations Sarah had to go to find the objects. On the way to silve the puzzle, they encounter many obstacles and many frightening events that occur right before their eyes.

Have you ever wished that you're solving mysteries with your best friend in your small hometown? This is a story by Patrick Carman called Skeleton Creek: The Raven, and his two protagonists, Ryan McCary and Sarah Fincher are solving the mysteries. They find out that the Crossbones has many secrets that no one has figured out. There are three members of the Crossbones, the Raven, the Apostle, and the Alchemist. As they try to solve the Raven puzzle they have another enemy from the first book: the Ghost of Old Joe Bush or Henry who became insane and turned into the Ghost of Old Joe Bush. As Ryan and Sarah find clues that lead to them finishing the puzzle he appears. The new enemy in the story is the Raven who is out for Ryan.

SPOILERS AHEAD!!

In my opinion this book should make you feel terrified and only kids 9 & up should read this book. His story always leads up to something very unexpected like when Henry died. Patrick Carman’s story is like this because he wanted a story that was also like a movie. Ryan’s parents didn’t like Sarah and Ryan hanging out or talking to each other, so they started emailing each other then deleting it. The reason his parents don’t like them talking anymore is because Sarah almost got Ryan killed in the first book. The first encounter with The Raven is when Ryan went camping with his dad to get away from the reporters. I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. Also if you like horror and suspense, I recommend this book for you.

The Boy and his father heard the city was going to get over run and ran out into the woods. One time the boy went out for wood and heard noises of the axe, he figured it was his dad but remembered he had the axe. He started to panic and head towards the noise to find a dark shady figure. He started to run the other way in panic. He got a visual note about a box that his dad had with him, A mysterious box. He wanted to find what was in the box. A few nights later it was his dads turn to get wood while his dad was out he snuck and his tent and opened the box to just find nothing but a bunch of papers.

I thought the book was good at the beginning and later towards the part where he gets chased out of the woods by a figure it became dull like most books or movies and I lost interest.

8+/10.
Czas spędzony przy czytaniu: 3 godziny i 56 minut.

Czwarty tom to trochę kontynuacja trzeciego, a trochę nowa przygoda.

I liked this book as much as I liked the first book. I was concerned after reading book 3 that the series was just going to start progressively getting worse, but I was pleasantly surprised. There’s a lot more mystery in this book than the last one and it delves more into the lore of the books. While I do miss Sarah and seeing more actual acting, the mystery in this book makes up for it. The plot is pretty far fetched at this point but who cares! It’s a fun middle grade book that knows what it is and doesn’t take itself to seriously!

I think that The Raven is the best Skeleton Creek book. This is because with all the extra details that were added in between the main story was a really good choice that made the book even better. I also enjoyed the way that so much detail was into the characters personalities, even the side characters. And lastly, the ending provided an awesome twist that I can't wait to see how it falls into effect in The Phantom Room.

The fourth book in the Skeleton Creek series. Ryan and Sarah are still following the trail of clues left by the Apostle. But the ghost of Old Joe Bush is still out there, and the Raven is still stalking Ryan. Can Ryan and Sarah solve the mystery before it's too late. Fans of the series will enjoy the book and the videos created to go along with the story.

Absolutely loved this story line. Was read the first book in grade 5 and was obsessed with the concept of one characters pov in writing and the others in video format. This has become a comfort service for me and I highly recommend it if you like horror but books don’t always scare you!

Super quick read with mystery clips on the internet. It is fairly slick and marries reality with fiction well. It is a bit obvious of a read for an adult but could maybe entertain some younger readers. I just get the sense that today's readers are a bit more sophisticated.

Really fun ride. I hear the fifth book isn’t as good as the first four, so I’ll wait a while to read it or won’t read it at all. The main story wrapped up really nicely in this fourth installment, big time page turner and better than the book before.
