Cute book to teach you Scratch programming - works best when students follow along with the story and work through the exercises. Not a lot of room for creativity though.
Well, this book is superb in terms of attracting attention of young reader. The comic style and its light narrative style somehow transforms reader into the state of happiness. This book is project - based. In terms of the computer engineering I would compare this book to a series of tutorials. Is this books fun to read? Definitely yes! Does this book lay solid fundaments for understanding programming by children? In my opinion it does not!
EXCELLENT resource for teaching yourself Scratch programming. I used this book to lead a 3 week programming workshop last year for my teens. Everything from the book's layout to it's incremental lessons really help you make sense of Scratch and then be able to turn around and teach it. It's legitimately fun to read as well.
