Who stole Mr. Boddy's prize money? -Was it Mrs. White in the Ball Room with the Knife? -Was it Mr. Green in the Lounge with the Revolver? -Was it Professor Plum in the Study with the Lead Pipe?
Mr. Boddy has invited his six best friends to be guests at his mansion for the weekend. When this weird and wacky crew get together, anything can happen. Follow along with their antics as you match up characters and crimes. Exciting mind-bending mini-mysteries to test your ability as a sleuth!
My friend Ashley recommended that when you’re in a rut with reading/writing/or anything, really, you go back to your favorite things from childhood. For me, that includes these Clue books. I was obsessed with the movie, the board game, and when I found out there was a book series I was PUMPED. So in the midst of the slump I’ve been in I ordered three (out of 18!!) of them for cheap off Thriftbooks and I am just delighted. They’re exactly as I remember, full of terrible people and even worse puns, attempting to kill each other over all kinds of things and always failing (since they’re for kids, nobody ever actually dies). They’re ridiculous fun and make me feel like a child again. Extremely pleased. Do this with books from your childhood!!
I read this whole series as a kid, and it's appeal holds. This particular book is solid but not stunning. It doesn't have the wit of some of the other books in the series. The mysteries are exercises in close reading and deduction, a nice mini-challenge without a gotcha. Perfect for middle school, or an adult who wants a quick and low key deduction problem. I ended up reading this while utterly exhausted at an airport, and it made the whole experience more enjoyable.
Silly and fun to read and attempt solving. I've always loved the movie Clue and had forgotten about these books from when I was a kid. Now as an adult with a kid who loves the movie too, we were gifted a copy of this book and had fun reading and solving the mysteries. We're convinced that the Seating Arrangements story doesn't work out as described, but we don't care because it was fun and ridiculous to get through the 10 stories.
I'll never get tired of these books. I wish there was more.
I like how at the end Mr. Boddy always, always ends up almost murdered by one of his guests.
The one about Mrs. Peacock dying was my favourite one out of all of them. Like the other ones that I've read, some of them stumped me, I guess I need to be more observant. Some of those clues are really tricky.
I had a lot of fun with this book! It was actually a little challenging to try and figure out the solutions to each of the mysteries - they were well thought out! It also doesn’t hurt that Clue is one of my favorite games to play.
Read with my 12 YO son. He is a big Clue fan and has enjoyed these books when we are lucky enough to find them. Short Mini Mysteries that you get to try to solve.
Clue comes to life in this book of ten short mysteries which the reader must solve. Mr. Boddy loves when his six guests come to stay at his mansion, but the guests do not get along very well, and often steal from each other, and even go so far as to kill one another. The suspects: Mrs. White, Mr. Green, Mrs. Peacock, Professor Plum, Miss Scarlet, and Colonel Mustard. Who did it, and who is innocent? Mr. Boddy is counting on you to put the facts together and get to the bottom of this mess.
The mysteries, for the most part, are set up well and require some thought and some looking back over the text. However, the writing is so poor I find it hard to be motivated to figure the mystery out. The answer is on the next page, so I’m not left wondering. I did notice one of the answers they had didn’t work with the facts given, but the rest all seemed fine.
I still can’t believe how bad the writing is. It’s geared towards younger readers, yes, but that’s no excuse. I won’t be reading any more of these books, nor am I keeping a copy of this book.
The title mystery, one of ten, is bizarre, and simplistic, but totally appeals to my completely bizarre sense of humour. The rest of the lot are above average too, and you really appreciate the absolute insanity of the series by this one.
The characters are fun and entertaining throughout the book. There is tons of humor that kept me thoroughly entertained as a child. I love whodunit books and trying to figure out the various mysteries and this collection of tales certainly doesn’t disappoint.
Always fun little mysteries to figure out although the last one still leaves me hanging because the answer doesn't match up with the story. Otherwise, the other nine short mysteries were great to solve.
Apart from the last mystery, which I still don't quite see how it is solve-able... this is great fun! I loved these books as a kid and have really enjoyed revisiting them!
