Nerd galore with all of the FF book's background compiled into a single tome. Great read.

This is a description of the world of Titan, the settings for Fighting Fanatsy game books are imagined on the surface of this world. The conceit is that it is a guide for adventurers compiled by learned scholars.
I suspect the expanded the lands of Allansia and Kakhab for this expanding each into maps for two continents (Allansia and the Old World) and adding a third continent of Khul. The book includes maps and a summary of some of the geography and sites of the land, then a history beginning with cosmology of the place. Next the book describes the Good Gods and races (chiefly Elves and Dwarfs) in terms of some highlights of history and characteristics, finally some noted good individuals are detailed. It then describes some of the Neutral gods (there are no neutral races as such except perhaps humanity). Next the forces of evil and chaos are described, evil gods and evil races like orcs. A few notable evil doers are described. Finally the life of intelligent creatures like mermaids (and mermen) are discussed along with the sunken land of Atlantis (I guess every planet needs one).
The book finishes with a discussion of calendars in use on Titan and some of the practical amenities used by an adventurer, including a price list of common items.
Aside from perhaps the price list there are no stats or game mechanics. So in theory this book could be combined with any RPG system for use for adventuring ideas. However it is clearly meant as a companion to other Fighting Fantasy RPG books. Describing in detail a history of creatures and places mentioned in the book Out of the Pit. Although there are many creatures described in that book not mentioned at all in Titan and even one or two creatures (such as sea elves) mentioned in Titan are not detailed in Out of the Pit. Also most of the races mentioned are relatively generic fantasy races (like elves).
The book also contains a fair number of inked drawings to illustrate things mentioned. The pictures range form meh to pretty good but most do not stand out.
This is certainly a book I enjoyed thumbing through even when I had no intention of playing Fighting Fantasy (unlike other books from the series that went unread on my book shelf for years), the setting is pretty generic but every once and awhile it has some fun and original ideas.

Pocas, muy pocas veces he visto tanto material en tan poco espacio. Un ejemplo de escritura concisa, evocadora y potente, describe un mundo entero, lleno de ganchos de aventura, en el espacio que otros llenan de paja y tonterías que no sirven para jugar.
Es una ambientación de fantasía divertida, irreverente y original, descrita en un estilo que debería ser imitado. Para mí, un producto esencial.

I do love this book, and Marc Gascoigne did a great job putting all the lore together from the game books, but these were 1980s game books and there's just a little bit too much generic fantasy to get as much out of it now. Brings back lots of fond memories, but for a real nostalgia buzz try Out of the Pit.

Fascinating and very interesting book,the part on your allies etc was great,but the bit that really grabbed me was the bit on all the enemies and monsters you could meet!Great artwork as well
