William Ford Gibson is an American-Canadian writer who has been called the father of the cyberpunk subgenre of science fiction, having coined the term cyberspace in 1982 and popularized it in his first novel, Neuromancer (1984), which has sold more than 6.5 million copies worldwide.
While his early writing took the form of short stories, Gibson has since written nine critically acclaimed novels (one in collaboration), contributed articles to several major publications, and has collaborated extensively with performance artists, filmmakers and musicians. His thought has been cited as an influence on science fiction authors, academia, cyberculture, and technology.

Een literaire thriller volgens de uitgever. Wat mag dat dan wel zijn? letterkunde met een snuifje spanning. De schrijver van dit boek zou de uitvinder zijn van cyberspace en cyberpunk-roman. Na het lezen van dit boek zeker niet mijn genre.
Wel spanning want we gaan opzoek naar de persoon(en) die beelden op een site zet. Voor deze mensen te vinden reizen we de wereld rond. Intussen gaat de hoofdpersonage ook opzoek naar haar vader. Deze is vermist tijdens de aanslag op 11 november in New York. Hij was daar in de buurt.
dus voor de echte thrillerfanaten, geen moord en geen onderzoek door de politie.
Besluit: een aanrader.

Aardig idee van geheimzinnig 'viral footage' met volgers op geheime internetfora valt later in het boek wat tegen als duidelijk wordt wat die 'footage' eigenlijk is. Toch is het voor de liefhebber van verhalen in de moderne hype-achtige context van internet, viral marketing, communities, subculturen en internationale 'upmarket' nomaden een lekker boek om te lezen. De hoofdpersoon is prettig aantrekkelijk en afstotend tegelijk, trendy en anti-trend tegelijk en als paradox goed getroffen. Heeft mijn interesse in bomberjackets weer aangewakkerd!!
