Stranissimo libro da parte di uno dei re dell’horror: a tratti una fiaba con una vena fantasy che sfocia in un “terror” dalle poche certezze. Se fosse stata sviluppata secondo le notevoli possibilità dell’autore, la componente “horrorifica” che permea il romanzo avrebbe potuto generare un capolavoro (o qualcosa di molto vicino). Invece, purtroppo, alla fine prevale un’inopinata vena “buonista” che ne compromette il risultato complessivo. Non sempre le buone azioni ripagano…

Woody è un bambino speciale, non ha mai detto una parola nei suoi undici anni di vita e vive nel suo mondo.
Per Megan, sua madre, tutto quello che conta nella vita è che lui sia al sicuro e felice.
E poi c'è Kipp, un cane con un'intelligenza superiore e dalle doti uniche. Quando intuisce che il ragazzo potrebbe essere in pericolo sa che deve trovarlo prima che sia troppo tardi. Woody crede che dietro alla morte di suo padre non ci sia solo uno strano incidente. Questo sua ricerca della verità lo metterà nei guai e un uomo guidato da cattive intenzioni gli darà la caccia.

L'amore e la forza di una madre sono ineguagliabili, ce lo dimostra questa volta Megan, che farebbe di tutto per il suo bambino, nonostante le difficoltà. Ma non immagina il grande pericolo che incombe su di loro.
L'amore e la dedizione di Kipp, un cane che nello spirito è sia cane che umano, saprà essere un alleato fedele ed importante.
La malvagità di un uomo bersagliato dalle ingiustizie da tutta la vita ora sta diventando qualcuno che non può essere fermato, qualcuno che non intende rispettare nessuna regola.
Tutto questo terrà il lettore incollato alle pagine, la mostruosità e l'odio si faranno sempre più strada regalandoci tensione e voglia di scoprire come si evolveranno le vicende.
Una lettura coinvolgente che ci ricorda che "solo una forza più grande del male potrà fermarlo."
