An undeniably adorable and hilarious book, T-Rex Trying and Trying is the perfect gift for readers of all ages—not to mention the perfect dinosaur gift for lovers of the prehistoric!
From the author of the sleeper hit T-Rex Trying , Hugh Murphy, a sweetly funny new collection of drawings of T-Rex and his family being stymied by the modern world—and their unfortunately short arms.

why yes, i AM reviewing another silly little humor book! because i enjoy laughter. and i also enjoy making fun of dinosaurs.
poor dummy.
naturally, in order to get maximum giggles out of this book you need to forget everything you know about evolution, history, biology, nature, technology, and all of that stuff. and that is a statement that transcends this situation - history is pretty much a downer. lots of dead people. best to wipe it all from the mind.
if you've read T-Rex Trying, this is just more of the same. however, as any sitcom'll teach you- in order to prevent a joke from getting stale, you must ADD NEW CHARACTERS.
so, welcome she rex
and wee rex
and their various sorrows.
it's more fun at the expense of poor creatures who are too extinct to fight back but would totally eat you if they found out you were laughing at them. so tread lightly, because lord knows they'll make more of these things before they work on making more red pandas just because i have stopped returning science's calls and they are punishing me.
but here - snicker at the plight of this poor dinosaur.
Still trying - but now with a family! So now you really are disappointed when your little arms can't get the job done, because your family has to suffer with you! This is a great book to read - really made me smile! If you have family or friends that are into dinos then this book is for them!
This book was hilarious and a little bit sad, but mostly hilarious! T-Rex has a lot trouble trying to do, well, everything! There is T-Rex, She-Rex and then Wee-Rex! A nice little family, struggling to do basic things! The Wee-Rex ones were kind of sad since he's a baby, but still funny. Very similar style to All My Friends Are Dead.
My grandmother passed this book onto me after she won it from goodreads. I read it in one sitting. It is just a short little one-line-per-page book, but it is super adorable. The illustrations are fantastic. She-Rex putting on a bra, and She-Rex attempting to deliver Wee-Rex especially cracked me up. I'm not ashamed to admit that I felt sorry for the Rex family at times too. Poor T-Rex... couldn't even eat with chop sticks or ski or change Wee-Rex's diaper. Short arms, you know? Ha. I loved this little book. I intend on giving it to my best friend as part of her Christmas present. I know she's going to love it just as much as I did.
Disappointing. I really enjoyed the first one but this one just didn't do it for me. Not enough short arms jokes & too much just putting T-Rexes into modern life, as if that's enough to be funny. Liked a few of them, but not most. Alas.
So funny. Poor T-Rex, he can't do a lot of things. Jealousy over the wavy-arm guy, trying to catch a second baseball, taking a selfie, trying to teach She-Rex to do pottery.
My partner and I picked up and read this whole comic while shopping at Target! It's that itty bitty.
The book consists of short, one-page comics about a T-Rex trying to do an everyday task, but failing. The T-Rex is foiled by being huge, having tiny arms, a large nose, or by another inconvenient body part. At first it was funny, but then the "lol short arms" joke repeated enough to be annoying, and finally the ending of the book made me feel sad.
Maybe I'm taking this small humor book too seriously, but it reminded me of disabled struggles and how the myth of modern life has simply not been built to accommodate disabled folks. Like the dinosaurs, disabled people sometimes force themselves to perform tasks the same way non-disabled people do, in a quest to be "normal," even when there are different ways to perform the tasks that will aggravate less.
Since perhaps I'm reading too much into a short comic about dinosaurs, I'm still awarding T-Rex Trying and Trying three stars. This is a book for odd, idle moments and is sure to elicit at least one giggle.
T. rex is my favorite dinosaur forever and so I enjoy these charming little cartoons a great deal. I wasn't as fond of this one as the original - too many gender stereotype jokes, with "She-Rex" trying to Nair her legs (patriarchal hair removal aside, was that supposed to be for her feathers since reptiles don't have hair?) and/or trying to put on eye shadow. Miss me with all that. (Somewhat related, T. rex would not have a belly button or give birth... not being mammals and all.)
Gets old after a while, although some are funny. Read this to Kate, but I don't really recommend it for children. Had to explain a lot, and skipped past some of them. Like in the first one, the T-Rex can't do most things, but is successful with some.
This book is so cute! I really thought it was a kids book, but I am definitely keeping it for myself. What a cute coffee table book. I was not expecting all the cute drawings. Like T-rex trying to prune a bush into a pom pom and ending up with an hourglass topiary because his short arms only reach one area. Super cute.
I received a free copy of this book through a First Reads Giveaway on Goodreads.
