Autopsy of a Fairytale #3

Kidnapping of a Myth

Rate this book
“Wendy Darling, I have your brothers. You’ll never see them again. They’re in Neverland now.”

Isobel ‘Bel’ Emerson finds her life disrupted once again when Eamon Stone receives a disturbing phone call from an old friend’s daughter. Her family is in danger, but she can’t call the police. Eamon is the only person she can turn to, and he agrees to help under one condition. Bel comes with him.

Working undercover with only Eamon for backup, Bel arrives at Wendy Darling’s expansive estate where she learns both of Wendy’s younger brothers have been kidnapped. Bel expects the kidnappings to be about the Darling’s famous wealth, but what starts as a straightforward case turns deadly when a man known only as The Tinker turns the kidnapping into a dangerous game of Cat & Mouse. A game he forces them to play to the brutal end. No one is safe. Not even Eamon’s beast, and as they race against the clock to find the lost boys, Bel’s own kidnapping comes back to haunt her. She refuses to allow her past trauma to keep her from rescuing the missing kids, but when even the FBI fails to beat The Tinker’s traps, Bel and Eamon are confronted with a terrifying reality. Saving the brothers might mean sacrificing their own lives. How far are they willing to go to save children from death? And are they brave enough to answer the question hanging thick between them before it’s too late? Has Beauty fallen for the Beast?

Loosely inspired by Peter Pan, Kidnapping of a Myth is book 3 in the Autopsy of a Fairytale series, a crime procedural romantic suspense perfect for those who like dark fairytales, murder mystery/crime procedurals (like AMC's The Killing, Netflix’s Lucifer, NBC's Hannibal, and Criminal Minds), romance, found family, and a hint of fantasy. Each book will be based on a different fairytale, but Bel (and her Beast) will connect them all, her story ending on small cliffhangers in each book/

LOVE LOVE LOVE!

Oh my god! I’m obsessed with all the Peter Pan/Finding Neverland references!

But man I’m more obsessed with Bel than I was in book 1!
How does each book keep getting better and better? Like I need more it’s so addictive!

This series is an absolute amazing page turner! (Though I called Hook I figured out who he was and I’m so proud of myself)

While I guessed the culprit early on there were soooo many twists and turns and red herring in this book, you just have to read another page, and another. Eminem and Bel’s relationship is progressing as the hunt for Peter Pan and Hook.

3 Books in and I Can’t Get Enough

I am not one to read past a series’ first book unless I am really hooked-and I am really hooked on Isobel, Eamon, and Cerberus. Actually, I like all of the characters and their weave together a strong cast in the town of Bajka. The sliver of supernatural mixed with crime fighting is just what I like. Eamon’s love for Isobel makes him a perfectly dark menacing book boyfriend as well. Can hardly wait for Criminology of a Character!

This one took me a bit longer...it dragged a little in the middle but I enjoyed the ride. Of course, I figured out the ending in some form; however, I never would have guessed the connection. I am definitely looking forward to book four because I need more information about this world of magic.

Triggers - v*olence, de@th, kidnapping, and some spicy scene (PG 13).

This is the third book in this amazing fairytale series, and I'm thoroughly enjoying it.

Bel and Eamon's relationship deepens, and together, they help Wendy Darling, who needs help to find her brothers when they've been kidnapped by Peter Pann.

It's a race against time when the brothers desperately need help. Someone is after the family and their wealth.

Will Bel and Eamon rescue the brothers and help reunite the family?

This book had me from the start. It had a very good flow, and I really liked the fairytale theme of the book (Peter Pan).
I really like the characters in this book, and some scenes were very thrilling.

If you like fairytale themed books and likeable characters, then this book is for you.

This book does contain v*olent scenes and de@th. If this triggers you, then this book is not for you.

There are some spicy scenes in this book (I would say spice level 1, maybe 2).

This series just keeps getting better with every book!

The banter between the FMC & MMC is amazing, and I love it.
This is such a s l o w burn 🔥 - Top tier romance. The things Eamon says to Isobel are just *chefs kiss* ❤️❤️❤️
I loved the found family trope that Wendy and the darling boys found with Bel.
Once again, Cerberus shows us that he is just the goodest of boys. 🐶🖤
But Isobel, sweetie, please for the love of everything tell him (with- your- words) how you truly feel because this is frustrating to read. 😅
I did suspect who the real villain of this story was and pretty early on, I should say, however - the way that the story was written and the twists that played out, it was very interesting to read and thoroughly enjoyable.

I can't wait to continue this series.

Well, another gripping story by this author. When you think the book is ending it takes another turn to another gripping part to the story, full of love, friendship, thriller, who done it, well worth a read, a page turner on a cold night. Can't wait to read the next one. Highly recommend to anyone who likes a fast-paced story. Great, how she combines fairy tales and a story together. The references to the fairy tale in this one were subtle and perfectly used.

Kidnapping of a Myth by Nicole Scarano
In this gripping third book of the Autopsy of a Fairytale series, Nicole Scarano reimagines Peter Pan with a dark, modern twist. Bel and Eamon face their most chilling case yet—the kidnapping of Wendy Darling’s brothers by a sinister figure known as The Tinker. With high stakes, emotional depth, and clever fairytale callbacks, this book blends crime, fantasy, and psychological drama in a way that keeps you hooked. A must-read for fans of dark retellings and character-driven thrillers.

The third book in the series and this one was so fast paced and jam-packed that I felt I needed a little bit of a breather every now and then. I enjoyed it but not as much as the other 2 books. At times this felt a tab chaotic and where Bel was a very strong character in the other books, here she is a damsel in distress in many situations. Thank goodness for Eamon and his super strength.

Nicola Scarano has definitely written Eamon as the absolute dream man. An Alpha male, top of the food chain predator but who is totally devoted to Bel. He will do anything and risk anything for her but not in a blinded way. He knows her inside and out and anticipates all that she needs without smothering her or belittling her strength and independence.
The chaos and predictability of the storyline and mystery is overshadowed by how amazing this couple is together and finally they kiss!! Talk about slooow burn. Honestly, I found this slow burn more exciting than a lot of insta-love books I've read. So well done for that!

Welcome to the start of the downhill slide for this series.

Things get tired and repetitive...fast.

By book 3 we're already 2 for 2 on correct guesses of the killers, and we've got a pretty good idea who the killer is within minutes of meeting them. Spoiler: we're right.

Bel is still being Bel, inexplicably pushing away a man who is certifiably crazy for her, and her him, for reasons that not even the greatest of psychoanalysts a la FREUD could decipher.

We go round the merry-go-round several times, with Bel being insulted/called Eamon's last night's leftovers, him getting upset, her talking him down. This just feels like an excuse to allow Eamon to play the overly possessive book-boyfriend that is obscenely popular in romantic fiction at the moment - and could have been succinctly nipped in the bud with a "She's my everything" comment, but no, we're forced to read it at least 3 times (yes, seriously).

There is also this weird thing after Eamon almost dies because of a land mine (they call it an IED, but I like to call a spade a spade), and and they talk about it like Bel was the target?
"Someone almost blew me up,” Bel sobbed into his chest.
"This Tinker person tried to kill me"

Like the IED (insert eye roll) was planted there specifically for her, and not for...ya know, Wendy...the heiress to bazillions of dollars and sister to the kidnapped children.
It's very pick-me and main-character-energy from Bel tbh.

And it feels like returning to regularly scheduled programing when I say this but this book needed an editor. Phew, for a moment there I was seriously questioning my sanity, but never fear, all is right with the world again.
For real though, there's a lot of back and forth about The Tinkers motives and MO and every new development leads to yet another passage (some with dialogue, some without) rehashing what we do and don't know about this pyschopath who has stolen children for no obvious reason.
Spare me.

There's also some romance stuff that happens, four letter words beginning with L are thrown around and everyone who started reading romantasy in the last 5 years is sorely disappointed because ladies this is CLOSED DOOR...and honestly the last thing I want to read at this point is these two getting it on in detail. Their relationship has reached unbearable even without it.

And so we sigh and click Read For Free on Book 4* ...onwards & upwards?

*omg I just looked at goodreads, there's a fifth book, and a sixth yet to be released...kill me now

An addictive series. There's no way to stop, especially because the relationship between the couple is slow-slow-slow burn, and it's only now in this third book that everything starts to catch fire...

Detective Isobel-Bel-remains confused about her relationship with her handsome neighbor, ex-crime suspect, millionaire and totally in love with her Eamon Stone. She wants to stay away, but admits that having Eamon around makes her life a lot easier - especially since even her dog likes him.
When Eamon receives a call for help from a friend's daughter, he can't refuse to go there, and takes Bel with him for her expertise.

Wendy Darling had her two younger brothers kidnapped. The kidnapper made it very clear that she could not call the police, or the brothers would die.
The Darling family is very rich, and since her parents' death, Wendy has been the president and main shareholder of the companies.
She should have been living the best phase of her life, after getting married in a secret ceremony, but she was living her worst nightmare.

Bel and Eamon begin the investigation, but the kidnapper turns out to be smarter than everyone expected; showing being skilled with guns and bombs, and a fixation on Neverland and never growing up...

As you may have already noticed, this story is based on Peter Pan, although the tale is never mentioned.
Deaths, explosions and riddles are part of the mystery of the plot, while the romantic part is up to Eamon and his lines declaring his love for Bel (makes you sigh).

Regarding the couple's relationship, it starts to heat up, and it doesn't seem like the author has the intention of turning the book into something hotter. The couple decides to go to the next phase, in a light story in this regard. In fact, there is no need for hot scenes, since Eamon's dialogue already shows all the feeling/protection he has for Bel.
Waiting for the next one.

If you love a good murder mystery, filled with lots of "working the case " elements and a tiny smidge of paranormal, then dive in.
It reminds me a little of some of my favourite TV shows when I was younger that feature crime fighting and throw in the mystical for a lil extra fun, think ....Blood ties, lucifer, grim, lost girl.

REVIEW:
Kidnapping of a Myth is so far my favorite of the three books in the Autopsy of a Fairytale series. It was thrilling to read a retelling of the Peter Pan fairytale meets CSI/NCIS kidnapping case as there were so many twists and shocking turns that kept me anxiously turning pages. An intense moment that was great to read had been when Bel stepped on an IED while she was searching for John and Michael. She knew that at that moment she would die and she regretted not telling Eamon how she felt about him. I found it the right moment for Bel to realize her true feeling for Eamon and when he save her life it showed her that he loved her just as intensely as she did him.

I'm glad this lead to them finally being a couple. I was so happy that Bel finally decided to give herself the opportunity to have a romantic relationship with Eamon. It was interesting to read how Sheriff Griffin finally figured out that Eamon was supernatural and he decided to keep it to himself for his love of Bel who he saw loved him. The part when Bel finds out that Henry was HOOK it didn't surprise me since I didn't like him because he was way too suspicious with the way he didn't want Bel or Eamon helping to investigate the kidnapping. I can't wait for Book 4 since that title Criminology of a Character is very enticing!

Kidnap My Heart… Go On Just Take It

The more of Nicole Scarano books I read, the better they get, and Kidnapping of a Myth is exceptional, definitely worth the 5 star review. It’s the way Bel knows she can always rely on Eamon, Cerberus, Griffin, or her dad. It’s her strength and resilience to see the most gruesome acts until the end, to make sure the evil is put exactly where it belongs. It’s also how she can let love in, even when her heart is so full it might shatter, there’s always room for more. Now I just need her heart and mind to catch up with what her soul already knows! I was on the edge of my seat, biting my fingernails, barely breathing while reading this book. Every book I’ve read in this series has gotten intrinsically better, and this one was top tier, making me wonder how much better the next one will be. I won’t have long to find out as I’m going to start reading it as soon as I finish this glowing review! Seriously, if you like dark, if you like mystery bordering on thriller, read this series… I mean, why haven’t you already read it, but yeah, go read it! I have been gobbling these stories up and I’m sure I’ll be done with the series that’s been published by tomorrow, but I will be waiting for October’s new release. I will also be re-reading these books as well. I thoroughly enjoyed the plot, even if it was maddening!

The author killed it yet again. Another great book in the series. This one was super intense, I found myself sweating at times and so stressed on what was happening. It was jam packed, but in the best way.

The plot was really good. This one had a Peter Pan inspiration, and it was done really well. Great twists to the original story and it kept you guessing. Some parts were slightly predictable, but then some good twists get thrown in to throw you off and keep you on your toes.

I loved Bel and Eamon's relationship growth in this book. We know how gone Eamon is, so it was nice to see Bel really accept and lean into her feelings. We FINALLY got a super hot kiss, I've been salivating for two books about it. And a very hot fade to black spicy scene. It's amazing seeing their relationship finally take the next step.

This series really is so good. I enjoy the hell out of it and cannot wait to devour the next one.

I kinda guessed who it was that did the crime to an extent, but that does not mean I didn't love the book because it was still an amazing book so I say like 4.75 stars, but since I cant do half/quarter star ratings on good reads I did round down to 4 but I definitely consider this read a 4.75 star read and if I could do quarter/half star ratings on here I would put 4.75 in my rating. I am excited for the next book. I will be checking for the blurb for clues on what the next book is about. I absolutely love this series and these characters, and I will definitely be so so so so sad when this series comes to an end. I highly recommend this series the romance is a slow burn, but it is totally worth it. If you love criminal minds and other crime shows/books and you love fairytales I highly recommend you read this series. You won't regret it. This series has quickly become one of my favorites I wish it could be never ending.

In Nicole Scarano's fairytale-inspired series, the one couple that is a constant in the books is that of Bel and Eamon, whose relationship continues to grow and evolve. In this third book Bel and Eamon must help Wendy Darling, whose brothers have been kidnapped, and she has been warned to not call the police or they die.

Bel and Eamon have their work cut out for them and as they start putting pieces together, their own dynamic also moves forward. If you've read the previous books you know that Eamon makes no secret of his feelings for Bel. She, understandably, has been doing her best to take things slowly despite her own feelings for Eamon. And Cerberus, sweet Cerberus, he is the most clever, goodest boy in the world.

The mystery was fun, the relationship intense and beautiful, and this book another wonderful installment - I truly cannot wait for the denouement of this awesome series.

This book is slightly different to the first two books (I won't say much because I don't wanna spoil it) but honestly I still loved the book all the same.

This book had me absolutely hooked, trying to guess what was going to happen next and who did it... gave me murder mystery x saws (PG) vibes

Listening to this book was an immerse experience, between the world building 🌎, character development 👧, and the plot (twists) got me absouletey lost up in the world. And hearing all the references to Peter Pan made my inner child so happy

So I’ve been reading at work when I have some spare time. And I stayed up Friday night to finish this book ( it’s now 130am lol) and I’m waiting for book 4 to see what could possibly be next…. I mean I feel like I knew it was Henry early on but at the same time it’s not always that simple. Some crime episodes are easily predicable while others aren’t. I love that Nicole puts it all into these books. While I do think Bel and Eamons relationship suddenly turned to a romantic one with not as much detail as some people would like…. This series is MY ABSOLUTE FAVOURITE! I’ve recommended it to 2 people already and as soon as I finish reading I make them read it so I can fangirl over it for a bit then be alright til the next book is ordered! Nicole…. Thank you for an amazing series! I can’t wait to see what’s next!!!

“Tick Tok, Tick Tok.

What a wild ride this book was, I could not put it down. This is 3rd story in the Autopsy of a Fairy-tail series, and boy was it a doozy! A panicked call, and a favor called in to Eamon sets the course of this story. Bel and Eamon are called into investigate the Darling children’s kidnapping, the only problem is the Tinker asked for no police. Bel must find a way to save the children while not succumbing to the Tinkers machinations herself.

From the characters to the setting this one really shone, everything about this story kept me in the moment. Bel, Eamon and Cerberus really took front and center. The supporting characters however were truly immersive this time around as well.

The action never stops in this book, from the beginning to the end this book is packed jam packed. I devoured it all in under a day, I needed to know how it ended.

Getting into the Autopsy of a Fairytale series, I had no idea how much of an impact it would make to my reading journey. My reading log has never really been consistent until my discovery of this series. The amount of cliffhangers is enough to last a lifetime and I can honestly say these books have reminded me why I’m at this point of my life. Not to be dramatic, but reading(and other factors), inspired me to become an educator; to share how much you can learn just by trying something out you end up loving. Nicole Scarano really put pixie dust in the pages because I can’t seem to put it down. Highly recommend Kidnapping of a Myth, and every book after, to someone who loves Disney with an extremely dark twist of thrill and murder that is sure to leave you grasping at the pages for more.

Also, I am endgame for Bel and Eamon.
