Bill Gates se narodil v Seattlu v roce 1955, otec byl úspěšný právník, matka se v té době nemohla pracovně realizovat, a tak se zabývala charitou a prací pro neziskový sektor. Na malého Troye, jak se mu doma říkalo, měla vliv jeho babička, která ho učila hrát karty, stejně jak jako podnětné rodinné prostředí. U Gatesů se scházela místní elita, diskutovalo se o politice, vědě i byznysu, děti byly vedeny ke vzdělání a pevným životním postojům. Gates byl od malička velmi nadaný, přesto měl potíže s uznáváním autorit a s učením – to, co ho bavilo, dělal na 150 %, ostatní přehlížel a sabotoval. Rodiče se dokonce obrátili na psychologa, jak sám Gates říká, dnes by mu asi byla diagnostikována nějaká forma autismu. Miloval knihy, matematiku, ale také třeba chození po horách. Nejradši byl ale ve své hlavě. Rodiče se ho snažili socializovat a nic mu neodpouštěli.

Začátek knihy byl super, těšil jsem se na další a další kapitoly, ale bohužel se celý příběh točí kolem dětství a dospívání. Měl jsem přehnané očekávání, o Micro-softu se mluví až ke konci knihy..
