I have really enjoyed this book as it is clear and concise. It has helped me to focus and it certainly helped me to realise that my expectations are not extreme, they are very normal. I have read through this book a couple of times now and dip in and out of sections as necessary. I will purchase more books on Assertiveness, but as my starting point this book has been invaluable to me and I will no doubt continue to dip in and out until the process becomes more natural.

Absolutely essential reading. Extremely educational; potentially life-changing. Just an extremely useful skill for all avenues of life. Even the basic skill of learning the difference between passive, assertive, passive-aggressive, and aggressive communication has been extremely helpful and enlightening.

Another self-help book?
Yes, but one which is helpful in many respects.
Written by acknowledged experts in the field, the resource is divided up into two parts. It starts with the explanation of the phenomenon of (lack) of assertiveness. The definition of the behavioural pattern, forms seen in real life situations, declinations and effects in interpersonal relationships.
The authors fare a pedagogically sound pathway and share numerous examples of cases which describe the settings, situations, outcomes of exchanges or even confrontations.
In the second part of the publication, the application of the theoretical knowledge about assertiveness is shown in private, work or general social settings and situations.
The book presented by Sue Hadfield et al is nicely written, easy to follow, expects the reader though to be attentive to the details as there is no space offered to verbiage but presents itself rather with condensed knowledge and expertise that are thus shared. Every sentence seems to be important to ever understand better what is lectured.
At the end of the book, there are references to additionally helpful resources, most of them targeted at a UK health and social services environment.
A valuable resource, recommended to anyone who wants to understand the requirement on their pathway to acquiring more assertiveness, and yes, it is this kind of book which has the potential to support a self-learner and achieve positive outcomes.

How to be Assertive in Any Situation.

I have read a few similar books but this one really gave useful practical ways to do things differently. I have just finished reading it and have tried out one of the techniques twice in a week and managed to get what I wanted with no trouble at all!

This book gives you lots of real life situations and direct advice. It's not easy to get into the book on the early chapters, but it gets more interesting when you'vge reached the third/fourth/fifth chapter. Although this book really give the way of how to be assertive in any given situations, but the best way to read this book (for me) is to read and practice it. So take your time and enjoy the changes

This book explains what it means to be assertive. It also covers other tendencies like aggressive, passive, and passive-aggressive. Why are people being passive?or have other tendencies in facing problems or in relationships.

Lots of study cases based on a daily basis, and how to tackle those, which makes this book relevant. This book is good for those who want to get better at being assertive, at communication, how to treat people with respect, and setting your boundaries and expectations.

This book starts out great by describing the types of personality traits assertive, agressive and passive people have. However, I can't help but wonder if it addresses the emotional states which are required to actually make a point with the suggested catchphrases to bring about win-win cooperation. The ending is quite useful with a list of assertive linguistic commands for once we do feel authentic and are ready to confront constructively.

For people who have little experience in assertive communication and wish to learn to more for their own self-improvement. A very positive side of the book is that they bring up many RL situations and provide feasible solutions, as well as counter-examples. Overall, a useful read.
