FREE PREVIEW! READ THE PREQUEL TO ME,MYSELF, & WHY!
From New York Times bestselling author MaryJanice Davidson, comes OUTTA THE BAG the hilarious prequel story to her upcoming novel ME, MYSELF AND WHY, the first in a brand new series. In OUTTA THE BAG, Clive Better—the better-than-best plumber in town—attends a speed dating event where—instead of attempting to score phone numbers—he recounts his recent run-in with a freaked-out cat and a sexy-but-psychotic woman that has left him confused, scratched up, and rather aroused.

This was a freebie, and it was a nice reminder of why I don't read MJD's stuff anymore. However, if you find her recent stuff funny, you may be interested in this one. I can't fathom how this series could be anything other than a total steaming pile...but to each his own.
Oh my G-d, BEST free download ever. A short, short prequel to the novel Me, Myself and I. I was laughing so hard I had tears streaming down my face. The main character has multiple personalities and is described as "a loon training to be an FBI agent who was as silent and spooky as Batman when she wasn't turning somersaults in trees and kicking over ladders and freaking out over lost opportunities to administer meds to bewildered felines."
I've got to go buy the novel Me, myself and I that follows this prequel (even though it is priced at more than I would normally pay)! I haven't been this entertained by a story in years.
Q: Home from school. Doctors wouldn’t let her have pets. Those two random facts actually made sense to him now, but he couldn’t help wondering: did the FBI drive the blonde crazy, or had she been that way to begin with? (c)
(August) Does 14 pages count as a book?! Funky prequel to a book I may or may not read. MJD back in the day could write really hot, really funny books - but over the years her humor has been not so much and her hot-level has almost disappeared. Makes me long for the early Wyndham Werewolf short stories in the Secrets anthologies - those were awesome!
This little prequel just didn't capture my interest in reading the full length novel. The set up of how it was done was an interesting idea, but the content didn't have me wanting to pick up the story as is the point of these little prequel freebies.
A bizarre but funny short story that is a prelude to ME MYSELF AND WHY. A really fun and quick (but very short) story that will have you on the edge of your seat and laughing your backside off.
Outta the Bag ~ Me, Myself & Why? ~ Cadence Jones Series ~ Prequel, by MaryJanice Davidson is the lead into a novel to follow.
Clive Better of Clive Better Plumbing, No One is Better than Better has an encounter with a beautiful young woman that was upset about the cat of her friend that was up a tree. He ends up with scratches all over his face and late he returns the cat to it's owner and then goes to a speed dating event.
He proceeds to start his story about the encounter with the first woman and continues it to the end of the even with all present listening to him instead of getting to a variety of men. It is pretty funny. The first couple of pages were a bit of a slow start and then the comedy started and finished too soon with a twist at the ending that made me smile.
Told from the perspective of someone who had to witness Candice, Shiro and Adrianne being…well them and boy do they look even more ridiculous than they read! Yet like all those speed daters, we just can’t look away.
Plot: Since this was a prequel, it didn't have much of a plot line. And honestly, I felt the plot line didn't make any sense.
Characters: The blond that the plumber talks about it just plain WEIRD. I think she might have multiple personalities, because of how drastically she changes over the short time of the story. While she is interesting, she was just odd and didn't interest me much.
Setting: Since it was such a short story, there isn't much setting. Basically it's just set around the guy's plumbing truck. Nothing too exciting.
Overall: This book did nothing for me. I'm sorry, but I prefer my short stories to pull me into the series and want to look into it, and this book didn't. I was quite disappointed.
A very short, but fun story about a guy , who while participating in speed dating tells a story about meeting a very odd young woman and unwittingly finds himself helping her rescue a cat she's cat sitting out of a tree. If it's a MaryJanice Davidson book, you can count on it being not only fun, but funny, quirky, and down right a blast. I've read all her books my favorite of course being Betsy the Vampire queen of Minnesota. Being from St Paul Minnesota myself it's easy to picture the setting of each story. I found only one small mistake. In one of the Betsy books she goes to a Wal Mart in White Bear Lake. There is no Wal Mart in WBL. The closest one to WBL is in Vadnais Heights.
This is a prequel to a best seller that I have yet to read. It got rave reviews, so needless to say I was excited to get it done. Maybe I would have enjoyed this more if I'd already read the the actual book (Me, Myself, and Why?)? Not sure, because as previously stated, I haven't picked it up. I might still do it. The premise sounds pretty funny. It took me a page or two to really get into Mary Janice Davidson's writing style-- and by that time the story was half over. It was quippy and unusual, in a good way. Not really what I wanted for the ratings though. Free on Kindle (in case you're interested).
This prequel will make absolutely NO sense to anyone who has not read the first book. It's a prequel that really needs to be read AFTER you know the characters. In fact the first book in the Cadence Jones series takes awhile to follow as well. So be warned. Being someone who read the first book (after I read this prequel) I can tell you that I like the story. It's rather silly and to some perhaps offensive? I don't get to wound up about those kinds of things so I took that book as it was intended. Kind of fun, kind of silly and overall MEMORABLE. So to this prequel I give an average rating and suggest you read. Me, Myself and Why?
This short story is a prequel to Me, Myself and Why and sets up the odd but intriguing idea of an FBI agent harboring three different personalities. Poor Mr. Better, stuck trying to figure out what the beautiful but very scary strange girl with the runaway cat and not get himself injured (or more injured) in the process. Considering Adrienne made an appearance he is very lucky to get away with only a kiss. And Shiro could have kicked his ass. I am just wondering how embarrassed poor Cadence will be by her sisters' actions. A great intro to the wild world of multiple personality disorder in these new books.
I thoroughly enjoyed ME, MYSELF AND WHY?, so thought this short little prequel would be a fun, entertaining read. Well, it's definitely short, and it was free, so I guess I can't complain. I actually did chuckle a little - I mean, a guy at a speed dating event talking about his experience with a woman with multiple personalities should be funny, right? But it was just way too short and rushed to really amount to anything. Plus, even though it was super short and published by a big-name publisher, it still contained spelling and grammatical errors. Overall, okay for a free, quick read, but don't feel you need to rush it to the top of your "to-be-read" pile.
This short story is a cute little diversion. Although it was apparently published before Me, Myself and Why? as a preview, I read it after the novel, and think I enjoyed it more for that reason. It makes more sense as a little vignette when you already know what's really going on. Some other reviews say "WTF?" and I think that reaction is more likely if you read this on its own before M,M,&W? After the novel, it's an amusing peek into the trio's earlier life. It's fluffy, silly amusement, which is what it's supposed to be.
This story is short...like shorter-than-short. But if anyone can pull of a twelve page "book" with finesse, it's MaryJanice. To be honest, this "book" is more a teaser than a story (although there is a beginning, a middle and an ending--all the basic requirements of a story). It's a very amusing way to introduce the main character of Me, Myself and Why. And it accomplished its purpose--I now want to download Me, Myself and I. If there is one minor flaw it was the writing. It was a little choppy at times, but overall this was a delightful FREE ten-minute distraction.

I want to read more from this author! I read some reviews that were not good... I don't know what they're thinking! This prequel is lively, funny, interesting, and TOO SHORT!
During the course of a speed dating session, Mr Better shares his story of how he got the claw marks... describing in detail his zany encounter with a certifiably crazy, yet gorgeous gal, that perhaps may be involved with the FBI. It was a brief encounter, yet supplied a long laugh.
I have to say that this short prequel was absolutely darling. I laughed out loud more than once, and found Clive Better and his 'experience' to be charming.
Despite that, I'm not sure that I'd be interested in reading a series about the female character with whom he had this experience (but this would only be due to my dislike of what I perceive to be female characters/heroines who don't have it completely together, not because I think the book/story wouldn't be well-told).
This is a free preview, not a full size novel. It appears to be a part of a series, but each book is a seperate story. The main character Clive Better is a plumber who recounts a recent strange encounter he had with a crazy woman and a cat in a tree. He tells this story while at a speed dating event. This is a humorous story and I will definitely be putting this series on my to-read list.
This story is only fourteen pages long, which most of the time would be an issue. The only problem I have is that I don't own the next book. Yet. This story starts out a bit odd, but ends up extremely funny. It is about a guy who is at a round of speed dating, but can't get the day's earlier events out of his head. This is odd and funny all at the same time. Looking forward to the next one!
A short story about a plumber in a speed dating function talking about an incident involving a crazy girl with multiple personalities.
Quirky and fun, it's a short introduction to the female lead of the series, a young woman training to be an FBI agent, despite her multiple personalities - something unrealistic but, I'm guessing, fun to read about.
A short story I got free for the kindle. I didn't entirely follow what was going on, but then, I'm not sure we're supposed to. Anyway, it was a short, fun read and did make me curious about the book it's a prequel to. Cute ending.
By the time I finished this short teaser for Me, Myself, and Why, I felt like one of the characters in the dating group. I was on the edge of my seat screaming "And then what happened?!". MJ is the queen, and this prequel shows how she earned that title.
