Emily #3

What’s French For “Ew”?

Rate this book
Spring break arrives, and that means it’s time for Emily to brush up on her sadly lacking French language skills. Emily, however, has much more important plans for her time—she is determined to keep the interest of her boyfriend Devon, and what better place to storm his Bastille than Paris?

Unfortunately her attempts to conquer strange French cuisine, Devon—and oh, yes, there’s that little thing about learning the language—end up in …well, let’s just call it The French Revolution II and leave it at that.

Katie Maxwell is a pseudonym of Katie MacAlister .

Katie MacAlister is a Seattle-area author of fiction and non-fiction. Her most popular titles are historical, contemporary, and paranormal romance. She also writes Young Adult books under the pseudonym Katie Maxwell and Mysteries under the pseudonym Kate Marsh.

About Katie

as long as she can remember, Katie MacAlister has loved reading. Growing up in a family where a weekly visit to the library was a given, Katie spent much of her time with her nose buried in a book. Despite her love for novels, she didn't think of writing them until she was contracted to write a non-fiction book about software. Since her editor refused to allow her to include either witty dialogue or love scenes in the software book, Katie swiftly resolved to switch to fiction, where she could indulge in world building, tormenting characters, and falling madly in love with all her heroes.

Two years after she started writing novels, Katie sold her first romance, Noble Intentions. More than thirty books later, her novels have been translated into numerous languages, been recorded as audiobooks, received several awards, and placed on the New York Times, USA Today, and Publishers Weekly bestseller lists. She also writes for the young adult audience as Katie Maxwell.

Katie lives in the Pacific Northwest with her husband and dogs, and can often be found lurking around online.

Again, this one was funny but kind of a filler to get us to the main relationship in the series. Em and Holly are in PARIS and Emily has one of those baby simulators from school and Devon is coming. Also, Emily doesn't speak French. A ton of shenanigans happen which end up being far fetched but hilarious. The relationship from the previous book plays out a but and we find out who Em is really meant to be with.

I am not a big fan of farce; I like my comedy at least somewhat believable. But some of the writing did make me laugh. I might have given one extra star if Emily had been at all likeable. But she was just too high-maintenance to believe she would have any friends whatsoever, much less a decent boyfriend.
Three stars, though because it was at least somewhat entertaining. I won't be reading any more of her books, but I am not the target audience.

Another silly, outdated adventure with Emily. It makes for great light reading. Thankfully this one focuses more on comedy rather than sexual angst, so I could enjoy Emily's humorous antics in Notre Dame, on the Seine, and with her ridiculous fake baby assignment. This one might be my favorite of the four-part series.

A haunting, unforgettable narrative. The mood is dark, and the tension builds slowly but steadily, creating a sense of dread that lingers long after the book is finished. The characters are complex, and the twists kept me guessing until the very end.

Seriously disappointing. I thought this was a humorous travelogue instead - it consisted (in fake emails) of the natterings of a spoiled young thing, who had little appreciation for where she was going or the language she was supposedly there to learn. Her focus was on whether she wanted to 'do it' for the first time with her favorite hottie/:p Her trips to classic sites led each time to one or more 'funny' disasters. Thing was...when her trips were going well, she and her buddies were written as those rotten sort of giggly mockers that make the world a worse place to live. Made it very difficult to find the main character sympathetic. Sucked the joy right out of it.

Another book that I should have left on the shelf. I found this book to be nearly impossible to slog through. The main character is a vapid, mindless irritating child who has no clue of what is important in life. I kept thinking that I hoped young girls wouldn’t read this and think this was the way to act. I know that this was intended to be a humorous book, but I only found humor in one spot, and it didn’t last long enough to rate the story as funny.

Many more crazy adventures with Emily. You just have to wonder if she can do anything without causing some huge bit of trouble. But if she did anything normally, she wouldn't be Emily. Quite a few laugh out loud moments while reading. And I must say that I'm quite happy with the way things turned out between her and Devon.

Emily and Holly are off to Paris for a two week intensive French course. Em is looking forward to the romantic city of lights and has plans for her and Devon on her 17th birthday. Only now Devon has to go on a fishing trip for the first week, and Emily has to take a baby simulator along on the trip. Yet Emily somehow manages to rise above it all to have a good time.

I love books that can make me literally laugh out loud, and this is one of those books. Emily's ridiculousness keeps the reader turning, and nothing is ever ordinary and boring.

She is someone that I could definitely be friends with in real life, because I would end up in a lot of the same situations if I were to go abroad.

Also, Devon = delicious.

I bought this book two days ago. I finished reading it yesterday. It's a funny story, but I'm just not into it. It's a little bit boring, yet I cherish its adventure taste and some French phrases written on this book. =D

I almost closed the book when I read the beginning of the story, but then I found something fun from this book. Yes, it's Emily's adventures in Paris.

Easy for girls to know whether or not they resemble the protagonist.
