As a young girl living in New Zealand Stacy Gregg wanted to be two things when she grew up – a horse rider and a writer. She now considers herself very, very lucky to be both at once!
Becoming a writer was the easy part – all she needed was an exercise book and a pen. Stacy wrote loads of poetry and short stories at school and then became a journalist, writing features for magazines and newspapers and working as a fashion writer (v. glamorous and lots of fun!) before her first book in the Pony Club Secrets series was published in 2007.
Well this was pretty great, though filled with drama (not really the good kind), boys that are total asshats, and one mean girl who can't apparently just fall off a horse and be erased from the book. Luckily there were also enough good parts (I loved the horse lessons, the showjumping part, the competitions, the romance).
But first the bad stuff to get that out of the way:
Yes, I know I am harsh, but really Kennedy? I wish she wasn't in the book, the stuff she does is just so utterly horrible that I can't imagine why anyone would let that stuff slide. She does several things that are life-threatening (the horse pushing in the last one, and what she does in this one), yet she NEVER EVER gets punished. And that really frustrates me to no end. The teacher could clearly see what was happening, but who got punished? Georgie. I really hate that this is yet another case of rich-bitch-getting-everything-she-wants-no-matter-what. I already hate the trope of mean girl, but this one takes it so much further. :|
I loved James in the previous book, but the crap he pulls in this one? Sorry, but no. Even with that end I couldn't forgive him. Why did he never EVER go to Georgie and ask her about things? Why did he just bully her constantly, why did he have to be such a big dick about it? If someone would do that to me, I wouldn't just run away, I would go to that person and ask about it. He knows about his sister, yet.... urgh.
Conrad is a terrible character and I wonder why the school keeps him as a prefect? I am guessing money and status, because otherwise he would have lost that prefect status immediately with the crap he pulls in this one. (Someone is late at the gates for 5 MINUTES and you leave them there? WHAT THE HELL?) I hope in the next books he will get the punishment he deserves.
Cameron, dear Lord, that guy was just terrible. Not seeing much in front of him, only seeing the rich bitch popular girl. And then being surprised when other girls are pissed at him. Bah.
Phew, now we are through with all the stuff that I didn't like, let me start about the stuff I did like.
Riley! Riley all the way. I knew from the start I would love this guy, and I did. Sure, at one point I wanted to smack him, but that quickly changed with that perfect, sweet, cute ending. I loved how he stayed calm even when Georgie was a bit mean towards him in the beginning. Dismissing what he said. But he just tried again and again, and she had to see that he was pretty awesome, and that there was a reason why people went to him for horse trouble. I loved how he was so sweet towards Georgie, and how he helped her out. And again, that ending was just perfection, I can't wait for the next book!
Daisy, what a change that was. From a girl I didn't like in the previous book she certainly stepped up and became quite awesome in this one. Still blunt, still a bit mean, but way less, and she is truly becoming a friend to Georgie, which I just loved to see. I am glad that she is dropped the bitch attitude, and instead is becoming a fun girl. I can't wait to see her in the next books, and I hope she will continue her road to a nice girl.
Georgie, I loved how strong she is, how brave she is. However I do have to say her crush on James got annoying, especially with the crap he pulled. But I can see why she was so dedicated, she just wanted to know what went wrong. I loved how hard she worked to get to the place she wants to go. She wants to go for the top and she is certainly fighting for it. Her relationship with Bella is just so sweet, and I loved to see them grow, to become friends, to understand each other. There is a big change between the Bella from the previous book (and even the beginning of this book) and the end part. It is amazing what can be achieved in one book.
Alice, she is just so much fun, and such a sweet character. I loved what she did for Georgie in this book, she truly is an amazing friend for life.
I also loved the life at the boarding school, though we didn't have much about it, or the homework, you could still see that it wasn't the easiest place. But it was quite fun to read about it, and even though the workload seems overkill, the food is suckish (at least if I have to believe the countless stories about it), but it does seem like a fun place to be. I wouldn't mind going to a boarding school, too bad I am bit too old for that. :P
What more? Ah yes, the horses and the competitions and the lessons. I just loved all of them. I know I wouldn't participate in cross country though, it sounds quite harrowing and scary. Then again, I will probably still try it out if I had the chance, but I am not sure if I could handle the constant fear. The fear of falling off, the fear of breaking bones.
The competition between the houses was so much fun to read about, I could just imagine myself standing in the stands and cheering for my favourite house. Or even participate in the race itself.
All in all though, there was a lot of good in this book and I really enjoyed reading it. I will soon get the third book, though I might wait a bit since the series will be ending at book 4. :(
LOVED THIS BOOOOOOK!!! it become quite a exciting end to it as georgie took yet another end of year exam. But it was also exciting when you had that page turner feel when she ran of 5 minutes before the showjumping championship to meet a boy!! she made it back in time and smashed the competition, and winning it! loved all the books from stacy gregg, she is a great writer for horse fans!!!!!

“Georgie looked down at her breakfast. She used to think Tara’s class was the only thing that mattered, that it was her whole reason for being at Blainford, but now… now she wasn’t so sure. But whatever her future held, right now Georgie was part of the Badminton House showjumping team and she was determined to get out there today and win.”
Another fun read with questionably realistic events.
This amazing book was like you were really there in the story and saw what was going on in real life. The book had an amzing morel, if you can dream it do it, and so she did it. It was weird for me because before I did'nt like reading and everytime I hopped in to bed I always looked forward o reading. The book has a really good hook and if you love horses you should read it!!!
The stakes are raised in the second book of this glamorous new horse-riding series set in the USA, where the winner takes all as the rivals compete for the showjumping cup! Georgie has secured her place at Blainford Academy for now but knowing who to trust is tough when you’re all competing against each other. Some new-found friendships might already be close to breaking point as competition heats up in the showjumping arena. Georgie starts to question if she can really trust her rivals. James was likeable in the previous book, but the stuff he pulls in this one is unbelievable. Its so questionable that he never went to Georgie and ask her about things. Its like he bullied her constantly. I loved how strong and brave Georgie is. However I do have to say her crush on James got annoying, especially with the stuff he pulled. I can see why she was so dedicated, she just wanted to know what went wrong. I loved how hard she worked to get to the place she wants to go. She wants to go for the top and she is certainly fighting for it. This book was more of a love story at parts than a horse story. First she went to James' mansion for half term to stay, but then he takes off on her. James's mean sister Kennedy wrote notes to both of them tricking them and causing trouble so they stopped talking. In the meantime Georgie worked with Belle, and asks Riley to the dance. He said he wasn't really a dancer, so on the night of the School Formal, Georgie was dateless. She fixed things with James, when they found out it was Kennedy and Riley ended up, turning up. Riley and Georgie kissed. I love Georgie’s character development in this book. With so much going on around her between school, dramas, boys, horses and fatigues, life at Blainford is pretty wild for her and the subplots in this book certainly keep a reader on their toes. It follows on from the first book seamlessly and perfectly. I would give this book 4 stars because it had slow parts but apart from that, it kept readers on the edge of their seats. It was really good even though it is more character driven rather than plot driven. I would recommend this to anyone aged 8 or over and it’s great to read alone or as a family but there are some emotional parts.
Tween girls will love this fast-paced story full of drama and competition.
Good points 1. Georgie is very likable. Although she makes bad decisions, young readers will love reading about her story and root for her as the main character.
2. The fast-paced nature of this book will keep readers interested throughout. The plot of the story never slows or trails off, providing an engaging and enjoyable read.
Bad points 1. The book contains a group of mean girl and mean boys, who are of course, the popular rich kids. I don't appreciate the perpetuation of this stereotype and these characters are really mean and do awful things to the main character.
2. The romance is very annoying. The main love interest is a very unlikable character and it makes the whole romance frustrating to read. Although a decent love interest is introduced in this book, the next book is billed as a love triangle, which really does not appeal.
No comments.
This book was more of a love story at parts than a horse story! But I love relationships, and Georgia's relationship was pretty bad! First she went to James's (the boy she liked) mansion for half term to stay, but then he takes off on her. James's mean sister Kennedy wrote notes to both of them tricking them and causing trouble so they stopped talking. In the meantime Georgie worked with Belle, her house with jockey, Riley and she asked him to the dance. He said he wasn't really a dancer, so on the night of the School Formal, Georgie was dateless. She fixed things with James, when they found out it was Kennedy and Riley ended up, turning up. Riley and Georgie kissed and it's going to be cool, to see which boy she's likes better, because I think they'll be fighting for her attention in the next two books.
I love Georgie’s character development in this book! With so much going on around her between school, dramas, boys, horses and fatigues, life at Blainford is pretty wild for her and the subplots in this book certainly keep a reader on their toes. It follows on from the first book seamlessly and perfectly.
This was a great book to read but I struggled to hop on board with the complete lack of consequences for the ‘rich and snobby kids’ and their horrific antics. I get that Georgie is attempting to fight it all but she always seems to cop it.
It is so much fun to read Stacy's books when too old to ride now but used to do what one can read almost everything that we did many years ago!! This is an any age book and I can't wait to read book 3!
I loved the first pony club rivals book and I this book was even better they get better every time I am definitely going to beg for the rest of the books !!!
I liked the book Showjumpers by Stacy Gregg because of the introduction to different styles of riding and the horses. This book is the second part to The Auditions by Stacy Gregg. In this book, Georgie starts out still working hard to get into "The Blainford ‘All-Stars’ Academy" the best riding school around. She faces conflict when trying to accomplish her dream, and try to be able to grasp a piece of her mom. Her mom died because of a bad accident riding and she went to "The Blainford ‘All-Stars’ Academy." If you ride horses, enjoy being around horses, and like to read about them this is the book for you. If you liked The Auditions by Stacy Gregg or Black Beauty you will like the book Showjumpers.
The teenage drama is a lot more eye-rolling inducing in this than in the first book. I still liked the horse parts a lot though but I wish the romance stuff would go.
