note: Shannon Drake and Heather Graham are pen names for the same author.

Drake researched her own family's roots in Scotland all the way back to the Middle Ages for this new series, which explores the history and lore of the 12th-century war of the Highlands.

In the days when Scotland lay under siege, King David sought loyal warriors who would fight with their blood and hea

The problem is OCR programs are not perfect and they can make mistakes. Since the digital source for this book was probably a scan, that could also account for formatting issues as well. This shouldn't be a problem as long as they went through and checked everything! It's up to an editor to go through and correct and check any errors. Obviously, with some books they are not doing their job and allowing books with errors to be released. I believe you can report errors to Amazon regarding issues with their Kindle books. The second link below also goes into how they will warn people now, when a book has major issues.

Here's a few sites that go into the problem:

This is your classic medieval romance. Set in Scotland in the early 12th century, it is a time of political unrest as Vikings, Scots, & English are all vying for power. The hero, Waryk de Graham is Scottish King David's champion. The heroine, Mellyora McAdin is the king's godchild. King David decides it would be a politically correct maneuver to arrange a marriage between these two, as the land Mellyora would bring into the union (Blue Isle) is prime seaside property ...ideally situated to s ...more

1st in the Medieval Scottish Series A Worthy Read!

This is the first in a series of historical novels of the Graham clan (see list below). First released under the pen name Shannon Drake, it’s set in 12th century Scotland during King David I’s reign. Waryk de Graham is 14 and on the battlefield with his father and uncle, both of whom are slain. In a heroic feat, he manages to rise from the assumed dead and save the remaining Scottish warriors and kill Renfrew, the leader of the Norse forces. For

Come the Morning
By Heather Graham

Can someone please just shut this bitch up? All the heroine does is argue and fight and run away and cause more trouble. Here’s a woman living in 12th century Scotland who disrespects the king and her betrothed and just about everyone she comes across yet somehow, everyone shows patience and allows her to continue her shenanigans.

I could not stand the heroine, Melyora MacAdin. She was a spoiled brat who thought she should get everything her way but it was her c

I found this to be a fascinating story. I wanted to stay up all night and finish but, alas, my mind and body had other ideas. Drake certainly did her homework regarding this historical period and the way she wound this love story around the political unrest of the time was terrific.

Waryk de Graham is one of King David's greatest warriors. So great, that he has been knighted Lord Lion. Waryk came to be in the King's good graces during a battle that found his father and several family members kil

I gave it 7 chapters before I DNF. The writing itself is exquisite. The prologue was perfect and made me pick this book to read. The setting is beautifully rendered. The male protagonist immensely charismatic. The character of King David satisfyingly shrewd. It is the female character who made me DNF. It is almost de rigueur in medieval romances to have a heroine who goes against the grain, a Xena Warrior Princess prototype with the skills of the most seasoned warrior, the mouth of the crudest s ...more

Being an avid reader of historical fiction, this book didn't disappoint. Realistic characters, a warring nation and the intersecting cultures of Normans, Picts, Scots, Angelo Saxons, English and Vikings. Based on historical data which brings the characters and the events to life. Marriages arranged for rights to property and politics. The plight of women and their expected roles to play at the hands of men. Very interesting in detail and the medieval way of life. Glad this book has been made av ...more

Maybe it's just because this is a very old book from this writer, but I was horribly unimpressed with the writing. The story and historical facts were good, but holy crow the word she was used so frequently that I wanted to rip the pages out and burn the book. I had a hard time getting through this one

Meh. I was looking forward to this because it was Scottish romance but...ugh. The heroine is soo annoying though I appreciate her attempts at controlling her destiny. The hero is decent, until he pretty much rapes his wife, but she sort of wanted it, but sort of didn't, so it's okay??? Not sure how that's supposed to work. Will probably not be reading any more in this series.

Can I give it a half a star? Horrible book. Heroine was whiny, and honestly how many times can she escape.

I must admit I skimmed through it.

I really enjoyed Come The Morning by Heather Graham. Although it got off to a slow start (in my opinion)and I thought about not continuing, I am so very glad I did. Once I got into the story of Waryk and Mellyora, I found it hard to put the book down.

Waryk de Graham was Scottish King David's champion and as such the King decided to reward him with not only land but a wife. And the wife he chose, Mellyora MacAdin did not want to marry this old, decrepit Norman soldier. (So very far from the trut

I'm not normally a romance reader, but that isn't to say I haven't read any romances. In fact, I've read some very good romances that managed to keep me intrigued despite the fact that I don't generally read much in the genre.

This was not one of those.

In fact, I had to skip the first three to four chapters to get past all the history she thought I would be interested in. I wasn't. Considering this was by a NY Times Bestselling author, I was surprised that it hadn't passed through an editor--or a

Another great book by Heather Graham. This is the beginning of what promises to be an amazing series.

Rich in Scottish history, the author states in the excerpt at the end of the book, that she was as historically accurate as she could be and then came up with a storyline to fill in the things that weren't know from that time frame.

This is the story of Lady Melylora and Waryk; they both have fiery tempers but that leads to more passion in the end. The story was a little predictable, but I liked

This was a fascinating story for me. It was a time of extreme unrest, political nightmares, wars, then more wars and so many didn't live to be over 40.

Nevertheless, the characterization of a small group of people trying to survive during these times held me spellbound. It showed she did some major research of the time period...although there were a few red herrings thrown into the mix.

I wanted to stay up all night and finish, but my eyes wouldn't stay open. It had all the elements I look for in

I liked the other 2 Graham novels better ('Knight Triumphant' with Eric & Lady Ingrainia and 'The Lion in Glory' with Eric's cousin Jamie & lady Christina) - but I liked the historical details on this too; learned all about Vikings, Norse and Danes and the berserkers! Waryk is also a compelling character, however, Mellyora can be a bit too much. At some point I wanted to put her in a straight jacket. I still give this 4 stars since it's part of the Graham series and very interesting hist ...more

Strong, honorable, power hungry knight forced to marry Viking heiress at his King's request. Heroine felt she should be able to rule her own people and opposes marriage to hero until danger makes her realize who the enemy really is. I had a very hard time warming up to the heroine--she seemed spoiled, selfish, and immature. The hero was loyal--to his King, his people, and his new home. He was stubborn but wise in the politics of King and country. Some tense moments and plot twists, good read.

When Mellyora's Viking father dies, the Scottish king decrees she should marry Waryk, the king's champion. Desperate to escape, she tries again and again to run from her future husband.

Mellyora is another headstrong and stubborn character who could stand to think things through. Her continuous escapes at the beginning are vaguely amusing, but get old. She and Waryk are a good couple, though, and they are fun to read about.
