I own this book.

I don't want to say this series is bad, because it isn't, it is genuinely a decent story but do I feel like it needs to be this long? No, definitely not. This book still follows Tristan in his attempts at reaching Ivy and trying to figure out who was trying to kill them in the car accident that took his life and took him away from Ivy, the love of his mortal life and afterlife too. I find that Ivy is an incredibly annoying character in this book, hence why I've given it fewer stars. She's naive, to the point of annoyance, and I find her character and the story incredibly predictable. I don't feel that a lot really happened in this middle book (I know the series got extended to being six books but still I feel like it shouldn't have been a trilogy never mind a series). This could have very easily been a stand-alone in my opinion, we didn't need all the filler stuff about Ivy's constant nightmares, Gregory fancying his step sister and in general, Ivy being dismissive and a little annoying.

I don't say that this book or all series is bad, I really don't thinks so. But I hated it. Main girl just way too naive and stupid for my temper. Also, ending was quite obvious. I liked much more first book ;)

Spoilers for anyone who has not read the first book in this trilogy or this one for that matter.

Tristan Carruthers fell for Ivy Lyons the first day she arrived at the high school for her junior year and it took months to get the courage to confess his love. Ivy was standoffish at first because it was hard to be at a new school because your mother was planning to remarry and the stepbrother you are about to gain hates your guts.

Tristan wasn't like other guys and Ivy wasn't like anyone else either with her belief in angels and it seemed as if their love could survive anything until the accident that June night. A deer in the road and another car coming on them fast...Ivy survived and Tristan didn't.

Now Tristan finds he is an angel and that he has a mission which is why he is still on Earth.

Another angel, Lacey Lovitt, is assigned to Tristan to help him figure out his mission while still struggling to complete her own. A soap opera actress who couldn't make it to the big screen and died young in a plane crash, Lacey is feisty and sarcastic and she has had time to learn powers that Tristan will need practice.

Throwing voices, being seen by believers, finding people who are "radios" that can help him communicate with Ivy, going back through memories and all the while trying to avoid going into a permanent darkness.

Ivy has severe survivor's guilt and has lost her faith in angels, giving her statues to her nine year old brother Philip, and she is being tormented by nightmares about the accident in incoherent pieces. Tristan's death has brought Ivy closer to her stepbrother Gregory Baines since he lost his mother to suicide a month before her own accident and personal loss.

It is causing a little bit of a rift between Ivy and her oldest friend Suzanne Goldstein as she has a huge crush on Gregory and they are slightly dating. Slightly in the fact that they make each other jealous on purpose and it seems that most of Gregory's attention is on Ivy more than anyone and in more than a brotherly concern...

Ivy's other friend Beth Van Dyke is soon discovered to be the radio that Tristan needs. Lacey senses she is an untrained medium and Tristan knows that Beth is a writer and if he can just get his mind in sync with hers, he can reach Ivy.

It isn't just to tell Ivy that he loves her but that he has discovered something about the accident...it may not have been one. No one could have predicted the deer or even the other car but the brake line being cut and leaking fluid to keep the car from stopping was deliberate...

It isn't a far stretch to assume who it might be but there are a few people Tristan wouldn't put it past. Gregory's best friend Eric Ghent is particularly fond of cruel pranks like playing chicken with a train or trying to get a newly swimming Ivy scared out of her wits by trying to drown her.

Eric is also an alcoholic and has fried a few brain cells doing who knows what sort of drugs beyond just getting high...

Gregory's other friend Will O' Leary has been new to school at the same time as Ivy arrived and he is one of those silent types. Most girls find that sexy but Tristan, being dead, is jealous since he can sense that Will is falling for Ivy whenever he gets a chance to "slip in" his thoughts to try and warn Ivy...

Someone was trying to kill Ivy or trying to kill Tristan or maybe even both of them and if it was Ivy...the girl Tristan still loves is in danger.

That is enough to leave Tristan in anguish now that Ivy has no belief in angels for him to reach her but the fact that a living and breathing young man could end up winning her heart...or trying to stop it from beating.

This second book takes on a much darker tone but it doesn't make the story any less interesting yet it may be the sort of push someone needs to feel like they aren't reading some sort of tawdry or saccharine teen romance.

We get to see more sides of the characters and some of them have layers we didn't known about for both the good and the bad. The one character that completely falls off the map is Tristan's friend Gary that we met in the first book and it is kind of shame as he seemed to be a nice guy.

Lacey makes up for Gary's absence and her relationship with Tristan is enjoyable to observe as they switch back and forth between annoying each other to actually showing real emotions of concern and understanding.

Coming to terms with the loss of a loved one isn't easy and the struggle can be felt through Ivy and her constant yo-yo emotions of knowing who to trust and trying to put on a brave face. Tristan also tries to put on his own brave face but the fact that he isn't able to get through to Ivy for the second time after going through so much the first time is heartbreaking.

The ending for this one going into the final book of the trilogy is a nail-biting and insane cliffhanger that made my stomach clench in knots. The Power Of Love trumps Kissed By An Angel in regards to plot and character development yet still retains the beauty of the story as a whole which comes to its conclusion in Soulmates...

As I said in the review for the first book, I knew that it was a setup for something great. I enjoyed this book way more than the first; characters are becoming more complex . I think I recall a review saying how they appreciate the dark element that's being added to the story, and I couldn't agree more. Something very dark is going on and I can't wait to find out what it is. I am so suspicious of everyone and I love it. I love not knowing who the bad guy is.

Warning: Contains major spoilers for the first book, Kissed by an Angel and mini-spoilers for this book as well.

The Power of Love picks up right where Kissed by an Angel left off. Tristan has just come to the realization that his car accident, that ultimately ended his life, was no accident. Someone wanted either him or Ivy dead. In The Power of Love Tristan keeps close to Ivy, as her guardian angel, and watches those around her because no-one's to be trusted.

As I said in the review for first book, I really liked our main characters. I still like Ivy, although I find her disbelief in angels to be quite irritating. She doesn't even want to hear the word angel and she has a tendency to go off on Philip whenever he uses it. Philip is a total sweetheart and he's only nine. If the boy wants to believe in angels then let him do so. I felt that at times Ivy was very insensitive towards her little brother. Did she forget that Philip and Tristan also had a special bond?

I still love Tristan. I love how dedicated he is to protecting Ivy. I will say I became slightly annoyed when his antics to get Ivy to realize that he's never left, never worked. I just want her to believe in angels so she can see Tristan I also really like the teamwork between Tristan and Lacey (his angel mentor/but mostly sidekick). I really like how they watch out for each other.

And last but not least we have the characters that I have a tendency to group together: Beth, Suzanne, Gregory, and now Eric. I don't have anything nice to say about the other three, so I'll get the positives out of the way.
Beth is such an awesome friend. She's concious of other people's feelings and I honestly wish that Ivy was closer to her than Suzanne. Beth genuinely cares about Ivy and her well-being. I can't say the same for Suzanne.
And as for Suzanne...
description
Reasons why Suzanne is a crappy friend:
• She's one of those "friends" who are catty and make side comments.

• She's pressuring Ivy to start dating again when Ivy has mentioned numerous times that she's not ready. Not too long ago her boyfriend died, she was right there with him when he died and she could've as well. Ivy has nightmares about the car accident every night, so she's far from ready to move on to someone else. Suzanne would know this if she could take her mind off a certain person for more than one second. Which brings me to my next point.
• ALL, and I mean ALL she talks about is Gregory. Talk about someone with a one-track mind.
• She's willing to give up a friend she's known since 4th grade for a guy who barely pays her any attention. She's even gone as far as threatening Ivy.

And then we have Eric and Gregory who I absolutely can't stand. They're just really bad people. That pretty much sums it up.

I enjoyed the direction that the author took with this book. I also think that the angels in this book are pretty unique. They seem like ghost more than angels. Only believers can see them, they can walk through solid objects, and they have the ability to tap into your thoughts (sometimes possess you, get you to do what they want). Also, as I said in the beginning I love the mystery element in this story. I don't know who's after Ivy and I'm pretty suspicious of everyone. I definitely have two people in mind, But I could be wrong.

Overall, this was a great read. It's a good thing I have the next book in the series because that ending would've killed me. Talk about a cliff-hanger ending! I'm really liking the direction that this series is heading in. This was definitely a page-turner!

I did enjoy The Power of Love more than Kissed By An Angel. The story ventured a little more into the darker side which it really needed, so I liked that.
So a little more specific details (which could contain spoilers, so beware!)

Tristan, of course, is an angel now and spends the entire book trying to convince Ivy that he exists and still loves her (which he thinks is his mission but turns out not to be). Ivy, on the other hand, no longer believes in angels so she starts leaning on Gregory for support. I totally got suckered in for Gregory along with Ivy...he was helpful, sweet, not pushy, and always there for her even when things started getting scary for her (attempted kidnapping, etc.) Then right towards the end we start getting a sense that all is not right with Gregory's intentions, which culminates in a very scary cliffhanger on the last page. Good thing I have the edition with all 3 books and did not need to wait to see what happened!

So I did get a little annoyed with how perfect Tristan is...it's not realistic! I'm sorry, but angel or not, if a guy's girlfriend is making out with her step-brother, I'm expecting him to get REALLY pissed off! Tristan kind of turned out to be a milquetoast in that department and I see it coming up again when Will makes his move in the future.

All in all a very decent sequel and one that impressed me more than I thought it would.

and we continue the story of Tristan, who is dead and is still here roaming earth. He has a mission, he's positive he knows what it is.

and we have Ivy. still fumbling around, trying to deny that Tristan is still around and still being attacked, asking the wrong questions and being reckless. ahh, silly Ivy.

It was great to see so many different sides of all the secondary characters. Suzanne, Gregory, Eric, Andrew, Beth, Will, even Phillip. We have more information now but still not all the answers.

and this one ends on a HUGE cliffhanger!

Quick, I need book 3 now :)

“The Power of Love,” by Mary Claire Helldorfer, is a romantic sequel of Kissed by an Angel about a girl and her angel. In the first book Ivy and Tristan are the cutest couple in their neighborhood until a tragic accident falls upon them. Now in this book Ivy has to try and go on with her life while Tristan is her guardian angel. Tristan has to figure out if the accident wasn’t really an accident and who is trying to hurt Ivy. Also, Ivy use to believe in guardian angels, but after the accident she lost hope and now Tristan has to convince her that he is hers before it is too late. All Tristan wants to do is be the one to save Ivy, but he has to find other ways to do it since he is just an angel and she can’t see him. I have to say that this book was amazing! I loved how it was kind of mysterious and it was such an adventure for every character in the book. I especially enjoyed the part where Tristan goes inside Ivy’s little brother, Philip, and Philip believes in Tristan and knows he is there. Tristan tells Philip that he needs to go save Ivy and he helps him along the way and it was just so inspiring and phenomenal how he saved Ivy. I also really liked how Tristan was always around Ivy and just always trying to help her because it is really sweet. I thought that this book was really valuable because it was a romantic story with so many things that go wrong, but Ivy and Tristan still love each other even if one of them is an angel now. Even though this book was super enjoyable there was one thing that I didn’t really like about it. I didn’t enjoy how Ivy depends so much on her step brother, but in real life he is just a self centered person that just uses her. Other then that little detail, though, the rest of the book was really intriguing. I knew that when I first started reading this book I would most likely enjoy it and I was definitely right. I loved every single word from the first page to the last. I was always on the tip of my toes waiting to see what was going to happen on the next page. Also, with most books I read there is always at least one part in the book that is so boring that it makes me not want to keep reading, but this book was different. There was not a single part in this book that made me bored and that made me not want to ever put this book down. So, just like Tristan, you should never give up on helping the ones you love even if you don’t get any credit for doing it.

Chi è Gregory in realtà?

It's the year of nostalgia for me, so I've been reading a lot of stories i remember fondly from my childhood. And, boy is that dangerous.

Nostalgia reads are like playing russian roulette, and unfortunately for me this time around, i didn't get the comforting click of an empty chamber. I lost pathetically and my bullet came in the form of WAY more incest than i remembered??? Maybe twelve year old me was stupid or maybe i repressed the hell out of this story, replaced only with the delightful warmth of scholastic book fairs past. Either way, every attention brought to the fact that they're step siblings (and somehow this is never their first concern) makes me extremely uncomfy. Not to mention all of the outright manipulation tactics that i can spot now only because I've heard it before.

Suffice to say, this Won't be read again. Nor will i suffer through the rest of this series. I've learned my lesson for possibly the first time in my life

2.5/5.

This book feels cheesier at parts than the first one. My biggest issue, though, is Ivy’s friends telling her to move on when her boyfriend has been dead for a month. Jesus Christ give her some time.

Overall, still enjoyable and ends in a way that forces you to keep reading the series. Might be more of a 2.5/5

These books are really funny. Gregory has been really creepy in this book. I'm looking forward to figuring what his motivations for these murderes are. And Eric too. There is something going on and I don't know what it is yet.

This book series has been the biggest 90s soap opera of a roller coaster ride. I dinged it to 3 stars this time because there is one story line that is just GROSS and WEIRD. But otherwise, I’m enjoying this angel love story. Can’t wait to see if Tristan and Icy are reunited in book 3!!
